What: Checking on a friend
Where: Ministry of Magic
When: November 17, Noon
Rating: PG

Aggie had made a few floo calls that morning to friends in Knockturn, and still had no news on Greyback. She'd put in a request to Gaskin to see if she could assemble a small squad - perhaps made up of aurors and hit-wizards - to infiltrate the Forbidden Forest and try to find the werewolf, but had yet to hear back from him. She knew that Greyback was there, but she couldn't go alone.

As noon approached, her stomach reminded her she'd only had a piece of toast with her tea that morning before Apparating to work. She gathered her purse to head down to the cafeteria, but suddenly remembered that it was supposed to be Samara's first day back at work. She winced, thinking that her friend would certainly not be back so soon after her mother's death... but then this was Samara.

She took the lift to Samara's floor and, sure enough, there she was at a desk. Aggie sighed and walked over, looking down at her friend with concern. "You could have taken a day or two off, you know," she chastised gently.

Samara was actually glad to be able to go to work, even though she was leaving Jason behind. It was difficult, she had to admit, but she needed to be ready to help Eli at any cost if they were to be there for their son in the future and getting back into action was her best way of doing this. Samara was a brilliant Obliviator and being a stay at home mother wasn't the best use of those skills, so it was best that she get back in the game.

Right now she was filling out the rest of her paperwork that she needed for her initiation back into training; she would not start field training until Wednesday as she had to go back over the manuals and books to see what had changed since she was last in training herself. She didn't particularly mind, though. Samara looked up at her friend when she heard her voice and smiled politely, shaking her head. This sort of distraction was exactly what she had needed after her mother's death, mostly because she could not miss the start of her training but also because she did not really mind all that much. There just was not a real explanation for how she felt about her mother's death, so it was better to just stay busy elsewhere. "No, I didn't need to miss my first days of training. Besides, it'll keep my mind off things, yeah?

"Are you here to check up on me?" she asked with a smile.

Aggie nodded. She'd done something similar when her father had died, had immersed herself into work rather than dwelling in sorrow at home. What was different, however, was that Samara had Eli and Jason to help her through it. Aggie's father had been the last of her family, and with him gone, she was alone. "Just know that if it gets to be too much, you can take some time. If they won't let you, tell me and I'll come kick their arses.

Aggie shook her head. "No, I'm looking for an excuse to have an extravagant lunch in the cafeteria. Come with, don't let me eat alone luv."

Samara shook her head and laughed a little. "Thanks Aggie. I'll be sure to let you know the second they try to pull anything of the sort. Just so I can see some arse kicking. I haven't seen that in quite a while."

She nodded her head, understanding crossing her face. "Oh yes, the cafeteria. It's been so long since I've eaten there, I hardly remember what the food is like. Has the food improved overmuch?" Samara closed the file on her desk and stood, stretching her legs a bit after sitting so long filling out papers. "Of course I'll come with you. I can't deny you a lunch invitation, dear."

"The food's relatively the same, but there's a new server who's rather fit, so at least we've a little better window dressing."

She led Samara over to the lift, which quickly opened up to give them an open and mostly empty compartment. She gave their destination to the lift attendant and settled back for the movement.

"It's of course nothing like what we had at yours on Friday night. You've always known how to throw a party."

Samara followed Agatha, grinning a bit. "If only I weren't married to the love of my life." It wasn't that she couldn't appreciate other men, just that she didn't really pay them much mind. She had everything she needed or wanted in Eli, so it was pointless to look elsewhere even for fun.

Samara shook her head at the compliment. Generally she would have helped cook the food herself or cater it, but she no longer felt comfortable cooking herself so it was good to have the new help around. "Please, it was nothing, really. Had we not been blessed with Taffy I doubt it would have turned out so lovely. I hope you enjoyed yourself, though. It looked as though Kin was enjoying herself with Roger, yeah?" Samara raised her eyebrows in a questioning manner. It was funny that one of her best mates and one of Eli's had got together at some point in the past.

Aggie rolled her eyes. "You're married, not dead. You're allowed to look, you know," she teased.

She nodded, remembering when she was young and her father had a house elf of his own. There had always been excellent food on the table, and the house was never dirty. She even vaguely remembered using the elf to play dress up and practice using makeup. She'd also practiced catching and tying him up in her own game of Aurors and Death Eaters.

"It wasn't just the food. You're an impeccable hostess, and I had fun. It was nice to see Kin again, and I had a nice little chat with your cousin Astoria. As for Kin and Roger, I suppose they were a little chummy. She's always had an easier way with blokes, though."

They entered the cafeteria and Aggie led the way over to the drinks. "I need a coffee before I fall asleep. And you?"

Samara smiled. "I know, I know. It's not like that though. I don't want to look. I have everything I want," she replied, probably sounding sickening to some people, but she could only tell it how it was. She and Eli had always had an overtly strong bond that bordered on obsession for both of them, so the idea of going somewhere else or even looking somewhere else wasn't even a thought for her.

Samara gave a mock curtsy to her friend. "Why thank you, dear. I do try. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, even if there was a bit of a mishap afterward where the food was concerned." She still couldn't believe Jason came to them and said he had been helping with their plan. Apparently he wasn't quite so ignorant to their scheming as she thought. "I suppose that's what I get for letting Jase work with potions. But you spoke with Astoria, yes? She's very pleasant, isn't she?" Samara tried not to make too much of a face when she said it, but it was obvious that she and Astoria weren't best mates or anything. "I think you, Kin and I need to get together again soon. It has been a while since we spent some time together!"

In the cafeteria Samara considered her options. She didn't feel particularly tired; really she'd been quite wired since she got to work. "I think tea will do for me, thanks."

"Well you know what to do with Jason, don't you? Tell him I'll arrest him if he does something like that again. Some of us have to chase down werewolves, you know, and it's rather hard when you're feeling ill." Despite her words, her half-smile revealed just how much she adored the boy.

"Astoria's all right. We've worked together before, and she's professional. That's all you can ask for, honestly. I definitely have a hard time seeing a family resemblance, though. And yes, the three of us need to catch up. The trick will be to get all of our schedules to mesh."

She poured a tea for Samara and a coffee for herself, then grabbed a couple of chocolate croissants. If Samara didn't eat hers, Aggie would gladly eat both of them. She stopped by the register to pay then led the way to a free table in a more quiet corner.

"Eat," she commanded playfully, placing one of the croissants on a napkin in front of Samara. "Can't have your husband hex me for letting you starve, after all."
