Entry tags:!status: complete, ^date: november 14 2003, character: dean thomas, character: jayne dough, npc: pandora zurlo

Characters: Dean, Seamus's mum, Jaynedora
Setting: Diagon Alley first, then...wherever. Friday the 14th, around 5:30pm.
Summary: Dean meets up with Seamus's mum, and they're both surprised by someone Dean recognises.
Rating: Worksafe, possible disturbing imagery

Dean wasn't worried about Seamus's mum showing that day. He was actually a bit grateful. Focusing on her meant he wasn't going to be focusing on the nightmares and murders for a few hours at least. He asked if he could shift his hours around at work that day, and so, at around 5:30, he was available to take Mrs. Finnigan to the Leaky to meet up with Seamus.

The whole time of course, Dean chatted with her, answering some questions and trying his best to neatly dodge others. That wasn't easy. It wasn't at all hard to tell where Seamus got his personality from. To be fair though, it only endeared Mrs. Finnigan to Dean more. "I called my mum Sunday," he promised, wincing slightly under the look that was given him. What, wasn't Sunday recent enough?

"And when's the last time you've gone round to see her?" Mrs. Finnigan didn't so much ask the question as demand it, and Dean winced again. Not recently enough, of course. They headed down towards the Leaky, after Mrs. Finnigan had insisted on stopping in a a shop first.

One of the worst things about petrification was the fact that the body was completely frozen, but the mind was fully function. dean could see and think and what he saw was absolutely heartbreaking. The flash of green was unmistakeable, even if he didn't hear the accompanying words that ended Mrs. Finnigan's life. But he couldn't act. He couldn't yell, or do anything to stop or distract the witch that had just killed Seamus's mother.

But then he saw what she did next and that too was familiar. It had been in Ron's memory. The box. The spot he didn't know Mrs. Finnigan had disappearing, in a black whisp into the box. Just like Penny.

Seamus's mother was dead and Dean couldn't save her, and now he had to wonder what the witch's plans were for him.

The box was quickly closed and put back into her robes, and with an accomplished smile and gait, she stepped over to the prone body of her newly acquired captive. She lowered herself onto her haunches and reached out to touch his temple.

"Killing is so anti-climactic," she said, half to herself and half to him. "I used to be able to take people to the brink of death over and over without allowing them to pass, but now, I have no choice but to kill. It is truly quite sad, don't you think?"

She laughed. "Perhaps you can think on it and let me know. For now, let us go to my companion's flat where I will expect you to tell me all about how you know my face. Believe me, if you don't tell me the truth, I will know, and I will punish you for it."

Her hand closed around a petrified shoulder, and moments later, they disapparated in Jayne's living room. She levitated the boy's body with a spell and brought him into the bedroom, dropping him onto the floor with a thud.

"Now, you spend some time thinking, and when I'm back, we'll have ourselves a little chat. Won't we?"

And with that, Pandora closed the door, leaving the room dark and silent.

Dean could only watch as she came over to him and spoke. He wasn't really listening. He could only see the body of Mrs. Finnigan there in the alley. He tried. He tried to protect her and failed. He glared at the witch who'd killed her, the only thing he could do as she gave him an idea what was in store for him.

She disapparated them and left him alone in a room in the dark, presumably to think and worry on the upcoming torture. But all Dean could think about was how Seamus's mum was gone and there was no way to let him know where he himself was.

Dean was just going to have to get through this somehow. He just didn't know how.
