Entry tags:!status: complete, ^date: november 14 2003, character: ernie macmillan, character: justin finch-fletchley

Who: Justin and Ernie (and other Finch-Fletchleys)
What: Breakfast at Finch-Fletchley manor after Ernie's worse-than-usual nightmare
Where: FF Manor
When: November 14, 8AM
Rating: Bad language and sexytalks (this is Justin's family)

"For the last time, Sarah, I didn't steal your lipstick," Justin replied across the table to his sister. "I know I used the last one, but I swear, nothing since. And if you accuse me one more time, I'm going to hit you with this bloody roll."

"Please, no rolls," said Catherine, Justin's sister-in-law, as she covered up her mouth. "I had a craving for them last night, and I almost burst. Justin's brother Heneage rubbed her back soothingly, but rather than concern, he merely looked down devotedly at Catherine's heavily pregnant stomach.

"I used to crave rolls with Hen," Justin's mother Margaret broke in, sounding enthusiastic despite the bags under her eyes. "With Charles it was tapioca pudding, Sarah was curry, and Justin was pumpkin anything."

Justin snorted, thinking that must have been the earliest sign that he was to be born a wizard.

"Would you like some more tea, Margaret?" the cook asked as she came by with the teapot. "You don't look like you slept well again."

"It's nothing, Mags dear. Just another nightmare."

Justin's jovial mood immediately evaporated at the reminder of his mother's 'fate'. Had Charles been at the table, rather than at his flat in London (where he stayed when Parliament was in session), he would likely have made the same complaint.

"Hey, Mags?" Justin started as the cook passed by, and attempted to think of something positive to get his mind off of things he couldn't control. "I've a friend coming for dinner in my rooms this evening. Do we have any fresh strawberries for dessert? I was thinking of that lukewarm chocolate fondue of yours for dessert."

She giggled and shook her head, sounding decades younger than her 50 years, and kissed his forehead. "Of course, dear. And don't worry about the sheets. Between you and your sister, I always make sure to have enough of that cleaner around."

"Look at it this way, Ern," Justin said, sliding his arm fully over his best mate's shoulders and leading him back to the dining room. "You're going through something awful, so why shouldn't you stay someplace where your cleaning and laundry and cooking are all done for you? Mags adores you, and I promise, I'll make sure Sarah stays out of your room."

He paused. "For that matter, I'll have that little chat with Charles and Emily too when they get here."

Ernie allowed himself to be led back to the dining room, realizing once more how tired he was. He had spent the last several days with little to no sleep whether it be for work or for the dreams. And he wouldn't admit it aloud to Justin at this point but every death he read of in the paper deepened his own fear that his number would be up next...

Since he was a bit lost in thought he didn't quite hear some of what Justin said about the laundry and cooking. "Why would she want to be in my room?" He asked, quite unaware that such a factor came into play around here.

Justin shook his head, as always amazed at how a bloke who could skillfully handle bad guys on a regular basis could be so clueless when it came to women.

"One, because you're a good-looking bloke, two, because she's as big of a slut as I am, and three, because she's been dying to shag a wizard for ages now."

He tsked affectionately as they re-entered the dining room. "Ernie, luv, have I taught you nothing?"

"Oh, I bet you've taught him a thing or two, brother dear," Sarah teased from her seat, giving them a wink for good measure.

"Oh--" He said, wishing he didn't really bother to ask that question since he now felt awkward. Ernie didn't really have time to ask the other question regarding whether there was any real difference between wizards and muggle blokes when they had gotten back the dining room. Actually he was fairly sure that Justin would've answered in far more detail than he'd ever really wish to know.

He couldn't really help himself but in his own quiet ways, flush slightly at the comment and wink Sarah gave them before making his way back to his seat. "I reckon that I'll stay a bit longer, Margaret. Until the trouble has cleared up; I anticipate that it would be over soon enough since law enforcement is working overtime to solve the cases," he said, still finding it odd that Justin's mother would insist that he call her that. He was fairly certain that his parents would (if he ever really would bring his friends over to visit) insist on the more formal version...
