Characters: Lee Jordan & Agatha Bole
Setting: 13 November (Thursday) @ 11:26AM.
Summary: Lee's supposed to be doing his job. "Inferi" got in the way.
Rating: There might be some bad language.

Today was the sort of day that made Lee really wish that he didn't actually like his job. Because, for one, he was pretty bleeding sure that if he didn't actually like his job, he could have called out for the day. Stayed at home. Watched some Muggle movies until this whole walking not-dead situation had been completely dealt with.

But, no.

Lee had to pick a job he loved, a job he actually wanted to progress at one day, so when he got an owl that told him that about three of the scheduled hosts had decided not to come in for the day, he couldn't say no. He had to prove that he was very very good at this. Which led him to now, two and a half hours later, crouching behind a desk as the one lone... whatever ambled by and trying to think of a nice, humane way to take it out since he sort of felt odd about. It wasn't like real Inferi, was it? What with the still being alive and whatnot.

On the other hand, of course, there was a good chance that if he was very quiet, he could just hang out right where he was. He was about ninety percent sure he'd seen on the of the secretaries fire calling for help a few minutes ago when he'd left everyone else in the one room they'd all piled into (it had seemed like a good idea at the time). Not that he didn't believe that he was fully capable of handling the situation if he had to. It was just that everything - and not just the past two days, either - had made him the slightest bit less enthusiastic about putting himself out there for injury. He was just very fond of not dying, all right?

His plan wasn't exactly about to work in any case, as Lee heard the shuffling before he saw any one body part and in an automatic reaction to protect himself, he grabbed the chair. He didn't exactly know how that was going to work out for him - but, hey, maybe it just would.

Agatha Bole had been having the time of her life.

This was why she'd become an Auror. The thrill of the chase, the ecstacy of the take-down, and the activity that gave her muscles a burning ache that reminded her that it was good to be alive.

She hadn't slept in over 24 hours, and was currently surviving on pepper-up potion and coffee, but she was fine with that, even if she wished she could change out of yesterday's clothes. Wasn't the first time, wouldn't be the last. The 'living inferi', or 'Kissed', or whatever they were being called had mostly been captured, but a few remained, including, apparently, one in the WWN offices in Diagon Alley.

She held her wand out in a defensive posture as she entered through the front door, keeping hyper-vigilant for any signs of her prey. She heard a sound to her right and immediately swung around to face it, nearly scaring to death a secretary behind a glass wall. There were a few people in there, all looking terrified and staring at her as if she were going to maul them. She rolled her eyes and mouthed Auror for their benefit, but quickly moved away to keep her eyes and ears open for her target.

There he was. He was trashing an office, sending papers scattering everywhere. As she approached, however, he seemed to lose interest in his current destruction and moved on elsewhere - specifically, a door across the hallway. The door wouldn't open, but it kept rattling the knob, eventually banging against the door in an effort to bust it in.

She smiled ferally.

Part of Lee was thinking that maybe today had been the day when he should have decided that no one would really blame him for not wanting to come into work today. And that he should have said fuck it and went about his day as ideal. But then again, he thought it would be fun to have a better "zombie" story than either Kendrick or Hollis could possibly have the next time they had a family dinner. And it would just be another way to distract everyone from Kendrick's situation. And he called it Kedrick's situation because he hadn't told them and had no plans to tell his family about his own part in all of it. It was much better that way.

The sound of the door rattling behind him distracted him from thinking about that. Which he was grateful for, because it really didn't need much more thought given to it than he had already. You know what would have been brill, he decided to himself. If he'd worked somewhere a little more violent. Lee was pretty sure the most dangerous thing he could possibly come across while searching the office for a weapon that wasn't his wand was a really, really sharp quill. Offices were shit.

The theory of waiting for assistance (but not help, because Lee was fully capable and all that) was a bit fucked then as now Lee was pretty sure the damn thing was throwing itself at the door in the effort of getting it open. Somehow, he would have thought all the people crowded together in one room would have enticed it more. Lee's hand tightened on the chair. He has hoping he could just hit it - him - once. He wasn't much a fan of a gory ending.

The man finally managed to get the top half of the door busted, leaving it swinging on its hinge.

"There are so many things I could say," Aggie said, lifting her wand to point at the thing, "but you don't have a brain to appreciate them."

She cast a set of spells that she'd found worked best with these particular opponents. First a binding spell, then a transfiguration of the rope into bonds of steel, and finally, a spell to relax the muscles (while this sounded more therapeutic, it helped stop the wild flailing while allowing important muscles like the heart to do their job). Once the man was immobilized, she walked over to the door and peeked inside.

"Hello there!" she called out in a far more chipper mood than most others were these last two days. "All safe and sound in there?"

Just when Lee was expecting to have a very real encounter, because half the door going missing was definitely a cause for concern as peeking had told him - there was no more immediate danger. Danger as in potential for harm.

And then there was the positively happy voice calling out to him and Lee finally let go of the leg of the chair, turning even as he appeared. Grinning, because as much as he might have appreciated the danger for a good story to tell over drinks some night later in the week, he was still very much appreciative of not having to do any of that at all. Besides, he could just... embellish the story later on for his audience. Who was going to correct him on it, anyway?

"I am brilliant and you are officially my favourite person for the day." He finally said in answer.

She grinned back. "All in a day's work, mate! Just give me a moment."

She turned back to her captive and pulled a chewing gum wrapper from her pocked, and stuffed it into the man's pyjamas. She spoke a word and backed away, and within moments, the man had been taken away by the portkey she'd placed. She satisfactorily clapped her hands together. "There, another one bites the dust."

She looked back to where the half-door still swung, and as she touched it, it fell to the ground. "Oops, didn't mean to do that." With a shrug, she pulled out her pack of grape-flavoured Drooble's Best Blowing Gum and unwrapped a stick to pop into her mouth. She handed the pack through the half-door as nonchalantly as if she were offering it to someone at a neighbouring desk at the Ministry. "Want a piece?"

While she was doing whatever she had to do as part of her Aurorly duties, or what have you, Lee came around the desk, eyeing the broken pieces of what had once been the door to the office briefly even as she offered him some of her chewing gum. Had to thank himself for locking it in any case.

Slipping a piece of gum out of the package, he gave her a wide grin. "Only since you're offering," he replied, taking his time to unwrap it. He paused, however, just before eating it, looking over at her. "So. Does my favourite person for the day have a name, then? Or do I just get to keep calling you Favourite Person of the Day - FPOTD for short?"

She laughed. "I don't know if I'd call that 'short'. The name's Bole, Auror Agatha Bole. And your voice is familiar." She stuck her hand over the door again, this time to shake his hand. "And you would be?"

Lee's almost permanent grin turned pleased at the mention that she found his voice familiar. He hoped it was from the WWN, though he guessed it was ever as likely that it might also be due to Potterwatch or Hogwarts Quidditch. Shaking her hand in return, he said, "Well, Auror Agatha Bole, I'm Lee Jordan."

That said, he stuck the piece of gum in his mouth with his free hand. He wondered idly if all his co-workers were still huddled in that office at the other side of the hall, and the thought only amused him further.

Now that was a name she knew. She put on a condescending look and crossed her arms over her chest. "Lee Jordan? The same Lee Jordan who commented on the House quidditch games with an obvious anti-Slytherin bias?"

She added a tapping foot to the mix for the full effect. How she loved messing with people's minds - which reminded her that she needed to do some sort of follow-up with Weasley. Perhaps ask if he was making any headway with his sexy new 'girlfriend'.

Oh, so he was being recongised by his Hogwarts commentating. Which was less than he had been hoping for, but still sort of brilliant in itself. And he was more than sure that it meant that the woman standing before him had to have been a former Slytherin, as she was focused more on the anti-Slytherin of it than the pro-Gryffindor.

He did smile just a little bit, still, leaning against the wall besides the broken pieces of door. "The one and only, yeah. Though, you know, I like to look at it as just being very loyal to my house team."

"Oh, is that so? Well, do you want to know what I think about that?"

Her look turned to a grin once again. "You didn't pick on Flint nearly enough. Did you know that arse wouldn't even let any of us girls try out for the team? Well, he said he would once, but only if we agreed to suck him off. Which pretty much explains why there were no girls on the House team."

What she never really told people was that she had once told Flint that she'd agree if she were accepted to the team first, but had been told to bugger off. She knew of at least one other girl who'd gone through with it, just to be told she still couldn't try out as Flint had zipped himself back up. She shook her head at the memories as she reached over the parial door to unlock it, opening it so that it was no longer posing a hazard, as the upper edge was broken up from the original damage.

"Do you have any idea how much all this damage is going to cost?" spoke a voice to her left. She looked over with a sigh of exasperation, noticing the people filing out of the room she'd originally passed.

"Frankly, that's none of my concern. Though if that's a problem, I can always bring back that troublemaker. I'm sure he could answer any questions you might have."

Lee raised his eyebrows then. He hadn't known that, actually, but somehow hearing about it didn't actually surprise him. He didn't need to know Flint from more than a distance to see that he was an utter and complete arse. It just sort of went along with grass being green and the sky being blue.

"If I could have a time turner, I assure you, I would go back and add a few more comments about how much of an arse Flint is in between all the other... stuff." Stuff, like complimenting Angelina on her performance. The fun part had been McGonagall's reactions to the more outrageous things he had said.

He looked over at the interrupting voice, raising an eyebrow. Somehow, he didn't think complaining about the damage was the way to go about being happy to still be uninjured or alive. "Let's look at it on the bright side, everyone's got their limbs, no one's died and it's a great dramatic tale for your friends over a pint of drinks, yeah?" Lee clapped his hands and grinned, even though none of his co-workers looked likely to return it. Oh well.

The person who'd spoken up huffed and turned away. "A 'thank you' would be nice from time to time," Aggie sighed. "But then, it's better than we get from the Prophet."

She twirled her wand around her fingers before sliding it into the holster on her hip. "I guess that's my cue to exit. Unless there's anything else I can do for you, Mister Lee Jordan?" she added with a wink.

"Somehow that doesn't surprise me. I've always had a theory that the Prophet offices mainly employed wankers," Lee commented, only about... half serious about it. There was still the other half that thought it was every bit possible that was one of their employment requirements just because of the shit they regularly published.

"What if," he started, raising his eyebrows just slightly, "I can't think of anything right at this particular moment, but something comes to mind later on and I decide there's only one Auror for the job?"

She smiled, holding back a hint of laughter. "Well then, I guess you'd better send me an owl, or catch me through the journals. Can't have you muddling through without your Favourite Person of the Day."

She turned, about to leave, but looked back over her shoulder. "Now don't get into any trouble I might have to arrest you for."

With a final wink, she started walking away, a swing in her step that hadn't been there a short while ago.

"No, that would be a real shame. Potentially pathetic, even." Lee almost murmured his reply, but he still wore a very satisfied grin for a reason he wasn't even rightly sure of yet. Lee decided against replying to that last statement as he figured that making a joke along the lines of that being kinky would not be the way to go with a woman he'd just met. Even if he would have been really creative with it.

He watched her leave for a second, and then went to go find someone in charge. Personally, he thought they should all just call it a day and go home, leaving Celestina Warbeck songs to play on the station all day, but that was just him.
