Who: Cho and Roger Davies
What: Naptime
When: Thursday, October 30, 2003
Where: DMLE

Cho had nodded off very little the night before. The corner of the living room was not most comfortable place to have spent the evening. When she'd finally decided to move back to her bed around four that morning she hadn't been able to sleep at all. Finally, after tossing and turning, her mind overriding her body, Cho had gotten ready for work and come in super early. She had actually been in the office when word came in that a body had been found in the Ministry. Cho had heard each and every detail that had been made public unfold.

Once the morning briefings had been completed, Cho headed back into Muggle London to see if there was any residual follow up that needed to be done from her case the day before. She then began the process of tracking down the two young men. Cho was able to detain one of the young men and had subsequently brought him back to the DMLE to be held for questioning while another of her colleagues searched out the other.

Finally, she made it back to her desk to finish the necessary reports. She was about half way done with the final page when complete and total exhaustion took over. Cho leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes to think about the answer to the final question. Instead of thinking through the page Cho fell asleep.

It had been a busy day for Roger. Not only was he exhausted from the crap he went through the night before, but he had been busy ever since he got into work. There was a dead body found in the Department of Mysteries, and as soon as he got to his desk, there was a memo waiting for him to go meet Gaskin.

Roger and Potter were assigned the case, and they were busy all day. They had to examine the crime scene, talk to security staff, get the body to the morgue at St. Mungo's. It was only the first day, but Roger still wasn't sure yet what had killed the man or why he was there.

He was at his desk now, with stacks paper work on his desk of visitor logs with pictures, going back a year. This was his brilliant idea, so Roger had to go through it. But he needed a break, or coffee or something. He was ready to fall asleep.

He needed a break anyway, so he extended his coffee break out into a walk. Roger was already feeling better when he took his first drink of coffee. He was walking back towards his desk when he noticed Cho at hers... asleep.

He remembered how he'd promised Cho earlier that he wouldn't wake her up if he noticed she was asleep. But he also knew that if one of Cho's superiors found her that way first, it wouldn't be good. So Roger took a detour in his walk, and went over to lean against Cho's desk, and knocked on the top of it, loud enough for Cho to hear.

"Wakey wakey."

Cho had been fine all day as long as she had been out and about. The adrenaline of the hunt had kept her in motion. Normally, the paperwork wasn't too taxing and she glided through it easily enough. Once she'd finished writing up the arrest she knew she would have to go down to holding and see if her inmate's partner in crime had been brought in yet.

Thankfully, she didn't have to check in at any specific time. If that had been required it was likely that she'd already slept through it. She'd not been placed on a set schedule for the day as Cho had been taxed with simply wrapping up the groping hands incident.

Cho's mind had check out along with her body and was rather enjoying the bit of peace it had found at the moment. However, she was soon jolted out of her slumber by a loud rapping on her desk that quite startled her. Instinctively she reached into her robes where she always kept her wand for quick access. Jumping up, she pointed it in the direction of the sound. It took a moment for her brain to come to grips with where she was and who was before her. "Davies, what the hell?" she practically whined as she flopped back down into her seat.

Rogers didn't move, when he saw Cho shifting out of her seat, and nearly attack him. She was a hitwizard after all, even if she was asleep her reflexes would catch up with her. He couldn't hold back his chuckle though when she came to her senses.

"I came by for a visit," he said, amused when he heard her whine. "I also did you a favour. It's better that I'm waking you up than Gaskin," he said taking a sip of his coffee.

If she could hex people with her eyes Roger Davies would likely be rather uncomfortable at the moment. She didn't see any hilarity in the fact that he had just scared the bloody hell out of her. "Glad I could be of some entertainment," she growled her grip tightening on her wand. She wasn't in the mood and could quite easily come up with whatever random hex jumped into her mind.

She watched him take a sip of his coffee and really wished she had a cup. Her empty mug was sitting on the corner of her desk. "I'll give you that at least you're not Gaskin," she conceded. "But you could have at least gotten me a cup to apologize for scaring the shite out of me."

Roger stopped chuckling but he was still grinning. Cho was definitely not happy with him, but she'd get over it. "Sorry," he did apologize, especially hearing her growl.

"I only just noticed you were asleep after I got the coffee," Roger explained, but he was already reaching over for her empty mug. "You stay awake, I'll be right back," Roger said with a wink as he went to fetch her coffee.

He was back in no time and handed her the warm mug. "That will help. How much longer do you have before you go home anyway? You obviously need sleep."

Roger didn't realize how lucky he was that she had grown accustomed to smugness. Then again she knew him well enough to know that he wasn't really as annoying as he could seem.

She watched as he reached across for her coffee cup. "You could have thought to do that before waking me." She was certain that Gaskin wouldn't have arrived within the few moments it would have taken him to get her a fresh cup.

When he returned with the coffee, she thanked him. "I've still got to go down to holding and see if they found the other wizard from that Muggle costume store case yesterday." She looked down and after grabbing up her quill quickly scribbled down the answer to the last question on the form she'd been filling out.

"I act more in the moment," Roger said as his explanation for why he didn't get her coffee first. Besides he had really been more interested in trying to wake her up. He did get her the coffee eventually anyway, and Cho did thank him.

"Well at least that isn't something for desk duty," Roger commented, when Cho explained she had to go to holding. "That shouldn't take you too long then. Are you working alone on that case?"

Cho supposed that part of what some saw as Roger's endearing charm was his seemingly spontaneous nature. "Which is why you make a great auror," she complimented him knowing that his job often required more split second decisions than hers did simply because she was sent out on more stable and reliable cases just as often as she was the ones that required immediate decision making.

Cho glanced at the clock on the wall. It was almost time to call it a day. The quicker she got this done the better. "I'm working with some newbie," she shrugged not quite remembering the name. "We each chose a name and went after the individuals since our intell said they'd likely not be together." She really hoped that the other hit-wizard had accomplished his mission. Doing so meant a final set of interveiws then home. Not having done so meant hitting the streets again to help find the individual.

"Why thank you," Roger said with a roguish grin when Cho complimented him. He didn't get enough of those in his opinion. Not from a lack of offering compliments to others, but mostly women thinking his flirting intentions were wrong.

"I'm guessing this newbie isn't impressive enough for you to remember his name," Roger said amused, when Cho shrugged. "Giving him quite a chance in the case though. Think he's doing as good a job as you?" Roger asked, absentmindedly looking over the questions she had written up on her desk.

His grin was enough to make Cho roll her eyes. "Now don't go expecting me to say nice things about you on a regular basis." She would never admit it, but Cho could see why some women fell for Roger's charms. Not only was he a charmer, but he truly was good at his job.

"Don't know if he's impressive or not. It's the first time I've worked with him." She honestly couldn't remember the kid's name. "I'm just hoping he had as good a luck as I did when it come to rounding up his suspect." As she spoke, Cho noticed his eyes wander to her desk so she flipped over her paperwork. She hated whenever anyone looked over her reports before they had been finalized and turned in.

"I'm good with occasionally," Roger said grinning. He was good at his job though. If there was one thing in his life that Roger took seriously, it was being an Auror. Which was why he was so carefree with the rest of his life.

Roger looked away from the paperwork and back at Cho quickly. "You need company going down to holding?" he asked sipping some more coffee. "I'm technically on a break at the moment, so you could enjoy my company for a few more minutes," he offered with a wink.

Cho put the paperwork in a folder and grabbed it up when she stood. She knew her partner would want to compare notes. It would be interesting to see why the young wizards thought their prank was acceptable. "If you'd like to accompany me you are more then welcome."

She took a few steps from her desk then realized that she had left her coffee behing. She was not quite completely alert yet from her nap and needed to finish getting her caffeine jolt. Before continuing toward the lift she returned to her desk to retrieve the cup. "And thanks for the coffee," she smiled before taking another drink.
