Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!status: complete, ^date: november 12 2003, character: ginny weasley, character: percy weasley

Who: Percy & Ginny Weasley
What: The invasion of Percy's calm, ordered sanctuary
Where: Percy's flat
When: November 12, 8AM
Rating: Definitely language, but that's it

Percy was lying upon his sofa, still in his pyjamas with a cup of tea on the coffee table. He had already sent Hermes off with a message to work that he would not be in, and hoped that he would no longer be bothered with any 'babysitters' of any sort. There were so many others at risk who needed protection far more than he did, and at heart, he wasn't even certain if he deserved it in the first place.

Hopefully, his planned meeting with Mr. Nott would go well. If he could get rid of whatever curse it was that had been haunting his steps, then he could finally move on without the weight of his guilt. If it didn't... he didn't want to think about it yet.

Instead he tried to read his book, which was thankfully an old favourite, therefore he easily found his place again each time his thoughts distracted him. Even with the spectre of last night's nightmares, he finally had a moment of peace of mind.

Thankful, everlasting, peace and quiet.

"Okay, then, no colors." She refrained from rolling her eyes, but did make a mental note to tuck the quill in her bag before he could bin it. He was getting two new ones whether he liked it or not.

She was about to put her feet up on the coffee table, make herself comfortable, but that might have given Percy a heart attack and explaining to mum the why and how of Percy ending up in Saint Mungo's would just complicate things needlessly.

"Mum is... fine." She rooted around on the sofa and kicked her shoes off, so she could tuck her feet under her. Without any heart attacks. "Dad's same as ever, Burrow's just as it's always been. Why so wary?" Another bright smile. "One would think you didn't want my company."

"Your presence is... unexpected, but not unwelcome." All right, perhaps it was a little unwelcome as he'd hoped to have a calm day to get past another nightmare, but he would never throw family out of his flat.

It was, however, not very often that she had actually been to his home. In fact, remembering the last time...

"You haven't been arrested again, have you?"

That was the moment the kettle chose to whistle, and he quickly went to prepare them cups of tea.

"No, I didn't get arrested again." She scowled at his retreating back, but kept any biting retorts from leaving her mouth. After all, she hadn't gotten around to telling him he had a new flatmate.

Now how to bring that up?

"So," she said casually, when he returned with the tea, "I thought you could use the company. For a while. I thought you could use some..." What was the best way to put it?

"Long term company."

Percy placed the tea before Ginny with a sigh, then sat down next to her, taking a sip from his own cup. Wasn't it enough he'd had such a talk with Ron, now he had to with Ginny as well? He tried to calm his mind, wanting to reply reasonably, rather than emotionally, however emotional he had been the last few days.

"Ginny, I do honestly appreciate the sentiment. But no matter what Ron says, I am not some weakling who is in need of constant supervision. Have I not given you an Ron time to mourn at your own paces? Of course I worried about both of you, but I did my best not to treat you like children. I would appreciate the same from the both of you."

"What the hell are you going on about?" The words were out of her mouth before she had time to stop and consider them. "This isn't about you being 'some weakling'. Merlin, Percy, why the hell do you think it's all about you?"

Well, she had fucked it all up now, but she couldn't seem to stop herself. Because the alternative was going back to the Burrow, back to mum scrutinizing every move she made, back to having to tiptoe on eggshells because she either wasn't mourning properly or she was too sad. Or she wasn't eating enough. Or wasn't doing something the right way, and fuck it, she couldn't do that. She'd sleep on the floor of George's shop before she went back to the Burrow.

"I can't. I can't go back there, okay? I can't." She was stupidly wringing her hands now and she really needed to shut up and drink her tea, but she couldn't seem to stop. "I can't live with the constant scrutiny, not being happy enough, not being sad enough, not being whatever enough, I can't do it. I can't. I can't live like that, I love mum, but she's driving me mad, and I can't do it, I can't, and fuck, this has nothing to do with you."

She caught her breath. Forced herself to exhale slowly.

"Okay, it has a little to do with you. No one should have to be alone at a time like this. But that goes for everyone, not just you. I never once said you couldn't handle yourself."

Percy was taken aback by her little speech, but in a good way. He did indeed feel a great deal of relief that this had more to do with her own situation than his own. Or perhaps it could be an excuse for his benefit? No, she sounded genuine.

He nodded and set his teacup down on the coffee table, then stood up and went to retriever her bag. He calmly walked it into the spare room and placed it on the bed, then returned to the living area.

"The spare bedroom is to the right, the main loo across the hall, which you will have to yourself as I have an ensuite off my room. The black notebook on my desk contains a list of nearby takeout restaurants divided by type of cuisine. The green notebook in the kitchen contains and up-to-date inventory of groceries, what I have and what is needed. My books are categorized by type and author, so if you borrow one, please return it to the same spot. And last but not least," he finished with a sigh, "do not touch anything on my desk besides the black notebook."

He returned to the sofa and took a sip of his tea before turning to his sister once again. "Have you any questions?"

For a split second, she thought he was going to take her bag and turf it out the door. But no, that wasn't his style. Still, she felt a flood of weary relief when he put her bag in the guestroom and returned. He was going to let her stay then. She wouldn't have to go back to the Burrow, at least not for a while.

Of course, then he sat down and rattled off a list of Percy-isms (she did make a mental note to check the green notebook tomorrow morning and buy whatever was needed) and she couldn't help but smirk. Gently smirk, but smirk all the same.

"Merlin, Perce, do you have a notebook of which of your pants needs washing, too?"

"No, but I do have one with detailed records of my daily expenses, including professional laundry services for my better robes," he replied, choosing to ignore her smirk, and took another sip of his tea. It was quickly growing cold and he preferred to finish it rather than re-heating it.

"I trust none of this will be an issue? And I would hope that, should you wish to host visitors, that you would use common sense and give me sufficient notice. Have you any particular questions or requests?"

She had no requests at all, really. She was just happy to have a place to stay for a while and, honestly, Percy's rules weren't really unfair. And if he started to get a bit crazy with rules, well, she'd just ignore some of them when he wasn't looking.

"Nope, no issues." She leaned back, sipped at her rapidly cooling tea. "Though I guess this means you don't want a surprise whisky and exotic dancers party, huh?"

He was thankful she had nothing to add, though he rolled his eyes at her utterly ridiculous suggestion.

"While that certainly sounds... unpromising, I would much prefer a more quiet night at home. I am, however, out of firewhiskey, but I'll pick some up after work on Friday. As for the dancers, should I truly be in need, I'll return to the Honeypot, thank you kindly."

He finished off the last of his tea, not quite realizing just how he'd phrased that last statement and what it might reveal about him. and his proclivities.

She blinked at him for a moment, entirely uncertain of how to reply to that. It wasn't often that Percy managed to say anything that stunned her, so she had to hand it to him, that last statement did it.

"Well." She sipped delicately at her tea. "You just go on and do that then. Oh, and don't tell mum. Or George. Because you'll never live it down."

The Honeypot. Really?

Don't tell Mum or George? About what?... And that was when he replayed in his mind what he had said, and his face flushed with a patented Weasley blush. He quickly stood up, clearing his throat, and went to put his dishes in the sink.

"Will you be here all day? I've someone from work coming early this afternoon for a short meeting."

All right, it was a white lie - Nott wasn't from work, and it wasn't a meeting per se, but it was important.

Well, fine, if Percy wanted to ignore his statement about the Honeypot, Ginny was perfectly happy to play along. For now. She'd file it away for later though, because, really. Really now.

"Nah, I'll bugger off for bit before they show up." She could give him his privacy. No problem there. "I've things that need doing."

Mostly off-season training things, but those were things that genuinely needed doing. And hey, if Percy's short meeting happened to involve any Honeypot dancers, well, she really did want to give him his privacy.
