Entry tags:!status: complete, ^date: november 12 2003, character: anthony goldstein, character: michael corner

Characters: Michael Corner & Anthony Goldstein
Setting: Anthony's flat, 12 November 2003, 7:00pm
Rating: PG-13 for language and possible arguing
Summary: Big kid sleepover! Memory speculation, zombie invasion, muggle warning system, BFF arguing, & moaning about The Lavender Situation.

Michael was exhausted and it wasn't even really fulfilling considering that there was still a tremendous amount of work to be done in the streets of Diagon Alley and elsewhere in the Wizarding World. He'd spent most of the day at the Leaky Cauldron trying his best to keep the mindless bodies from destroying the place and whatever other nearby building he could help defend. It was grueling work, especially considering it took them ages to realise that so many of their spells weren't affecting them in any way. Michael could barely believe that just the night before he had been worried about such menial things like Lavender being in his flat and now there were mindless bodies roaming all over the place. With all the shite they already had to deal with, why would they get more added on top of it all?

Now he only wished that the situation with Lavender staying at his flat was one of his only problems. Really that problem had escalated tenfold just last night when she decided to say those words he could not handle hearing. None of it probably would have happened if he had just kept his intentions to himself but he never knew when to keep his mouth shut and leave things be. Michael was smart, but he never seemed to learn with Lavender - he was constantly tripping up because she was always throwing him for a loop.

And then there was Anthony Goldstein, his best mate he could always rely on, regardless of whether or not he said extremely stupid shite he knew he was going to regret later. Because unlike Lavender, Anthony had been with him for twelve years and knew him backward and forward even if Michael liked to pretend that he could still fool him. And even now knowing that there was a pretty good chance that Anthony was going to call him out on some of the things he'd said in the journals, Michael still wanted that comfort of being with him even if a row could be involved. Because even arguing with Anthony felt like something familiar and home to him, unlike how he had felt with Lavender invading his space the past few days and that was exactly what he needed right now. So he may not need to stay at Anthony's, but it was something he wanted to do anyway, since he wanted to consult with him about the memory obliviation idea that had crossed his mind when he was talking about the potions with Lavender. There was no one better to talk to about it with than Anthony. And of course with all the mindless bodies wandering the streets, he wanted to check in with his friend anyhow.

These were all valid reasons for him to show up at Anthony's flat around seven that evening. Rather than knock he just opened the door because it was essentially an extension of his own place in most ways and Anthony had learned to set his wards to include Michael if he did not want to deal with an incessant amount of whinging. Unlike at Michael's flat where he might actually be shagging someone, there was no need to worry about Anthony entertaining since he was still so adverse to such things. It was really rather sad and Michael had to get him a shag at some point. "Honey, I'm home! I hope you aren't wanking in here!" Michael called as he closed the door behind him and tossed his bag on the floor near the sofa.

Michael looked over at Anthony with a raised eyebrow. "Are you serious? Fifth time? I re-read books too, but haven't you got anything better to do? Can't you at least get a new book to read? Have you even read any of the books I gave you?" Michael shook his head. "Yeah, no need to answer, I already know. Wouldn't want to fill your head with any of the classical literature that has moved the world with its words for centuries. That would be an utter crime against humanity." Michael sighed. He understood studying for school or even reading books one was interested in, like he read about mythology and potions and even astronomy, but to disregard literature because it was fiction and not necessarily 'useful' in some way was the real crime here.

"And you know what else? You need to get out of here before you become a bloody hermit or some sort of new species of homosapien: Anthonius Reclusius Patheticus. I can see it now; they will find your remains in your flat and wonder how such a sad little person could survive on nonfiction books and no shagging. Such a bloody shame, it is." Michael smirked, shaking his head in mock sadness.

Anthony only sat back, leaning against the arm of his sofa as he let Michael have his rant. It wasn't really anything he hadn't heard before, but he was sort of curious as to when Michael was going to stop expecting some sort of new answer to certain questions. Anthony was, without a doubt, a creature of habit, and that hadn't changed as of yet, so he didn't see any reason for why it ever should. There was the amusing part, though, in that he had pretty much just called Anthony a recluse, as had been his point earlier.

"You know what's sadder?" He asked then as Michael smirked at him. "Your obsession with my sex life, nonexistent as it may be." He was using the word may very loosely as they both were well aware of the fact that Anthony had never let himself be put into the position where something might happen.

He shook his head with a sigh. "It's not really about your sex life, mate. It's about your needs as part of the male species. They need to be fulfilled and you are setting them aside for other things that are not very important. You have not experienced these things so you don't know what you're missing. That's the problem I've got to work with here."

Michael waved his hands in the air, glad his hand was now healed. "But it's okay, I have ideas. I know what to do with you, mate." Michael looked at him and raised his eyebrows mischievously. It was quite possible that Anthony could interpret things the wrong way but Michael never really thought about the things he said so it wouldn't be anything new for him.

The expression on Anthony's face, which had started as mostly neutral with the tiniest hint of amusement because he had pretty much heard all of this in some form or another from Michael in the past, changed a bit into a frown because he wasn't sure he liked the sound of that. Or the look Michael was giving him, because... honestly.

"What's that even supposed mean?" he asked instead, almost pretty sure (but, no, not completely) that Michael was definitely not attempting anything. Because, one, it was Michael. And, two, he had a whole situation with Lavender. And stuff. "I don't think I like the sound of that. Whatever it is, I refuse on principle."

Michael rolled his eyes. Like he had not heard this answer before. "Please. That's what you always say. When do I ever listen to you? Never, that's how much. And besides, how many times have I got you to do things when you said you refused to do them? Many, many times." He smirked, enjoying this because it was true that Michael had got Anthony in trouble a few times even though he had been a Prefect in school - and even a few times after they'd graduated too.

"Hey mate, I'm only looking out for your best interests. I care about your well being and you should be thankful, honestly!"

Anthony's frown deepened just a bit more, then. He was very, very not sure, in the general scheme of this current conversation, what the words that Michael was saying even meant, because it just didn't sound... right. In that best mates sort of way. Or maybe he was being insane and jumping to conclusions and Michael was, once again, not thinking about the way the words that were coming out of his mouth could even sound to other people. Because that was a very large, possibility, and Anthony hoped it was so. He really hoped it was so.

Even still, Anthony couldn't help the unconscious effort to shift away - even if there was nowhere to shift to. "Thankful?" He echoed. "It's not as if I've been trying for... um, anything so anything I haven't had is of my own volition and I think I can manage without any ideas, or - or, you doing anything with me, thank you very much."

Michael was barely paying attention to Anthony's disagreeing because that's what he always did. But it would have been impossible to hear the last bit and okay, maybe Michael hadn't worded things very well but this was just - just classic. His eyes went wide first, then his mouth fell open and before long he was laughing because honestly, did he really think that Michael would go there in their friendship? Michael rolled over on the sofa and then off of it onto the floor, laughing so hard that his stomach clenched in pain. He had not found anything this funny in quite a long time.

He kept trying to say something but he would fall into a fit of giggles before he could get anything coherent out just by looking at Anthony's face so it took at least five to seven minutes before Michael was even remotely composed so he could speak in something resembling the English language. "Wow. You seriously thought that I was going to try to - wow, mate. I mean, you're my best mate and all, but I am not interested in you that way. Sorry, Ant. I hope you aren't crushed by my rejection." Michael started laughing again, holding his stomach which was hurting now.

Anthony realised, quite well enough actually, that he was wrong when Michael pretty much rolled onto the floor laughing. He kept his face blank, however, crossing his arms over his chest and refusing to be embarrassed just because Michael had been the one who had worded himself wrong and led Anthony to coming to that conclusion. Even if was wrong.

He had the very real, very immature urge to kick Michael while he was down, but just managed to keep from doing as much, even as his eyes narrowed once Michael was enough over his amusement to actually speak.

"Yeah, well. That's not my fault since everything you said was highly suspicious. And you can't see it, because I'm too busy glaring at you for being an arse, but I am incredibly relieved." And then Anthony gave into his immaturity and gave Michael a jab in the side with his foot.

"It was not highly suspicious! It was about as normal as everything else I say! Merlin, mate, you need to lighten up and stop thinking everyone is out to get you! Honestly, like I would actually try to have sexual relations with you. Holy shite, Ant!" Michael grunted when Anthony kicked him with his foot and rolled over, sitting up. "Quit hitting me already, yeah?"

Michael got up and sat on the sofa again, chuckling a bit. "I can't believe you actually thought I would consider doing that," he said, shaking his head.

"If that was as normal as everything else you say, then maybe you should rethink the things you say." Anthony stated stubbornly, eyes still narrowed slightly in something that was not quite a glare. Though it could have been.

Anthony didn't give that an actual answer to that, instead deciding to just shrug and pick up his abandoned book. Considering his habit of attempting to think of the most insane thing of the time and force Anthony into it, he didn't exactly see how this was supposed to be some sort of limit. Or maybe he was trying to convince himself of that since it turned out to not be true. Whatever. He wasn't going to let Michael know that.

"Oh really now? Maybe you should rethink your best mates then if you don't like the things they say, yeah?" Michael gave him a sour look, shaking his head.

"Alright, so let's look at these books of yours and work on this warning system so you stop pouting, yeah?" He looked at the table and grabbed some of the books Anthony had set out earlier.

Anthony settled for making a face at Michael and decidedly did not tell him that he hadn't exactly had much choice in the matter. And Michael was lucky that Anthony was reigning in any sudden immaturely violent tendencies he might have been feeling at the moment and instead flipped the book open to the page he'd saved.

Then he paused and glared at Michael. "I'm not pouting." Another moment passed. "Git."
