Entry tags:!status: incomplete, ^date: november 11 2003, character: ernie macmillan, character: george weasley, character: ginny weasley, character: percy weasley, character: ron weasley

WHO: George and Percy, along with Ernie, later joined by Ginny and maybe Ron
WHAT: Intervention! And help with the books :)
WHERE: WWW
WHEN: between 5 and 6pm
RATING: We'll say pg13 for possible language

George was just getting the doors locked to the shop, having shooed his employees out a few minutes early so he could make sure the space was empty when Percy arrived. He didn't really want to involve anyone outside of the family with this, but Ernie was scheduled to be tagging along, and at least he was in the DA, so it wasn't too much of an issue. Though not that any of that would matter to Percy, since he'd likely never heard of the DA and was already frustrated with being followed all day. But George didn't really care. If his brother was going to be an idiot about all this, then he was going to call it out to him, with the help of his siblings of course.

George spent a few minutes getting things back where they belonged, as the shop was always in a bit of a state at the end of the day. Gidget followed on his heals, stopping when he did, and even finding a few things that needed to be fixed, barking at George to let him know. He really was far smarter than he should be allowed to be, George thought as he watched the mutt wander ahead of him a little. Finally, he went behind the counter to a small safe where he kept the books and money, pulled out the books, and set them on the counter so Percy would find them quickly when he arrived. Though it was really just to lure him to the shop that George had asked for help, he really did need help. He was awful with the numbers and money aspect, because that part wasn't what mattered to him. He just wanted people to enjoy his products, but Percy had tried to make it clear to him that the money aspect did indeed matter, and he had to keep things accurate. So he just had Percy do that for him, and on this particular night, it killed two birds with one stone!

Finally, Percy arrived, and George unlocked the door to let him in. Gidget barked excitedly at new people coming in, and bounced around Percy's feet for attention. He especially liked when people he knew came to visit. "Evening," George said as he closed the door again, leaving it unlocked so Ron and Ginny could come in when they got there. "Thanks for coming by, Perce, you're really saving my arse. I owe you one."

Percy nodded as he entered, looking down to where the dog jumped around his feet. He made a show of looking annoyed, however, inside his robes were a few small bits of food he'd kept over from lunch specifically as a treat for Gidget. He'd only get them when George was out of the room, however.

"George, this is Ernest Macmillan, my escort for the day. Macmillan, my brother George." The introductions made, he took a quick look around and immediately spotted the books. He walked over and took the first one, wanting to get this done as soon as possible. He hadn't wanted to tell George how exhausted he was feeling - not just a tired exhaustion, but a deep down weariness that pervaded his being - as he hadn't wanted to worry him, as Ron had no doubt told him about Percy's breakdown the day before.

Now, however, all he wanted was to go home. Soon...

"Good afternoon," Ern said to George as he walked in after Percy. He watched Percy beeline towards the books. For a moment he wondered at their whole sibling dynamic--just for a moment--before looking back at George.

"How are things, George?" Ern had to start his assessment of this environment, and the first thing to do was to assess whether people seemed 'normal' or 'usual' enough. No obvious signs of curses or anything of that nature.

George watched Percy shoot by him towards the books before he had a chance to respond to him. As much as he was trying to cover it up, Percy wasn't able to hide everything that was happening to him and how it was weighing on him. George could see it in his face, even at a quick glance. He could see he was tired, and he hadn't been lying to Ron, he wasn't going to jump down his throat, not even close. He was horribly worried about Percy, and he wanted him to know that, wanted him to open up to George a little, because that's what family does.

He turned to Ernie. "Not as good as I'd like," he responded. "I'm worried about him, and I don't think he is taking things as seriously as he should. Or maybe just not the way he should, I'm sure it's all far too serious for him. I don't know what to do, Ern, but I will let you know that Ginny and Ron may be stopping by shortly to help me express our concerns for him."

He walked over to where Percy was and leaned on the counter next to him. "Figure anything out yet? How badly have I screwed up this time?"

Percy looked up, the corner of his mouth twisted in what was almost a smirk. "Not terribly this time, but there are a couple of places where the calculations have a misplaced digit that affected the outcome. It shouldn't take me very long."

He reached inside his robes and pulled out his second-favourite quill - his primary favourite had a place of honour upon hi desk at work - and immediately set to correcting the notations. However, as he began writing, Gidget jumped up onto the counter and set to trying to 'catch' the feather end as it waved. Percy grimaced and leaned over to whisper into the dog's ear.

"If you don't behave, no cheese for you."

The dog immediately dropped to lay down on the counter, paws crossed primly, just as Percy had secretly taught him. Then without further ado, returned his attention to the accounting.

"I guess not--he's been remarkably--overly normal--considering the circumstances. A normal day, but I can understand where you'd think he's covering a whole lot up. I can't exactly say that he seems to express any relief at having being surveilled today. He's been otherwise alright," Ern whispered to George.

He paused for a moment before adding. "You don't think he's given up, do you?"

George considered Ernie and what he'd just said. "That's what I was afraid of. All that bottling up can't be healthy, and there's no way he's not terribly disturbed by everything that's happened. He wouldn't be human if he wasn't. Although there have been times where I've wondered... Still, I'll warn you, things could get ugly in here. My plan is if I can't get him to admit that things are serious, that he's in danger, and that he's not handling things well, get him angry at me so he'll still get it out. For his own good, and it really shouldn't be that hard. I'm pretty sure I get on his nerves more than the rest of the family combined. It's a gift and a curse." His second question bothered him. "I hope he isn't. If he is, no one will be able to protect him from Ginny, she'll flip. And if he is, I think he deserves it."

He glanced at Percy and how well behaved Gidget was being. "How'd you get him to do that? He never listens to me." He leaned his head on his hand. "Well at least not terrible is better than I was expecting. I was afraid for something really bad." He waited a moment before he continued. "So how's work been?" he asked, very carefully starting to probe his brother's reactions and answers, not wanting to get too far into it until the others got there.

At the question about the dog, Percy simply looked at his brother with a raised eyebrow before returning his attention to the books. At the further question about his work - and since when did George give a damn about his work? - he sighed and put down his quill.

"George, you asked me here to help, and I am quite glad to do so. But please, it is near impossible to do this and hold a conversation with you at the same time. I don't mean to be rude, but... bugger off."

He picked his quill back up and returned to the accounting.

George was a little wide eyed at that, but honestly impressed with his older brother. "Well, I guess Angie was right, there really is a first time for everything, fine, I'll be over there, but don't brain wash my dog anymore while I'm gone, alright?"

George stepped away from Percy, since he did want to let him work and fix his horrible book keeping. He went back over to where Ernie was. "Bloke just told me to bugger off. Percy. I didn't even know he knew how to use such language!" George said sarcastically. Obviously Percy had to be somewhat familiar with it, since he and Fred had told him many times to bugger off, and in less polite ways most of the time. Especially when Percy had been Prefect and Head Boy. Of course, he felt bad for all that now, but you can't change the past, so he might as well try to make up for it now.

Ginny had some time to kill before meeting with a few of the Harpies for drinks, and anyway, there was no way in hell she was going to miss "kick some sense into Percy" day. Bad enough she had missed brunch last Sunday (and mum had NOT let her forget that). Percy was easily the thickest of her brothers, definitely the one least likely to listen to anything resembling reason, and so if drastic measures were needed...

Well, that's what she was there for.

She let herself into the shop and immediately caught sight of Percy hunched over some books at the counter. She spied her brother and Percy's babysitter in the back, and immediately called out to all in the room.

"Hey, I was just in the neighborhood." For Percy's sake, but hey, he didn't need to know that. Yet. "Thought I'd stop by." She held up the sack she had been carrying. "I just happened to have some pumpkin juice and biscuits on me. Convenient, I know."

Ron was still a bit worried that his brother and sister were going to overindulge Percy's senses with their "intervention." Ron understood that they were well intentioned, but after seeing him when he told him about Penelope's death, it was hard for Ron to consider how he would react to this. Or if it was truly necessary now that Ron had got his way with the watch on Percy thanks to Minister Kingsley.

So while Ron would rather have not come at all, he felt he needed to come and make certain that his brother and sister did not overdo whatever it was they had planned. Especially Ginny, because she had a tendency to get a bit - rowdy. When he entered the shop it looked as if Ginny had just walked in and he nodded to her and then to his brothers. "Hey everyone. Is there a party I didn't know about? Had to ask George a question."

Percy was just finishing up the last stroke of his fixes when he heard not only Ginny but Ron's voices behind him. This meant that three of his siblings were there, as well as his 'security detail'. The day after his... reaction to Penelope's death.

Something was definitely afoot.

He set down his quill and turned around, looking at everyone who had assembled there. "Interesting, Ron. I believe I have a question for George as well. Such as... why exactly was I asked to come today, George?"

(OOC: Sorry, I didn't know this had been tagged! How about this for a tag order from here on out:
George, Ernie, Ginny, Ron, Percy)
