Memo to Longbottom and Macmillan

I'm addressing this to both Longbottom and Macmillan. I'm concerned about this spell of nightmares and waking visions the populace claims to have seen last night. I've done some minimal questioning and have found that not one witch or wizard I've spoken to seems to have got away without an occurrence of this nature last night. To that end I suggest it be brought to the attention of the management to be assigned a case.

I dislike having to go about things this way but were I to bring this forward myself, it could well go ignored. I thus ask one or both of you to do so in hopes they'll listen to you and assign the case to someone competent enough to handle it. If it can't be myself or Warrington, I should hope it would be one of you.

I've also no idea whether they'd prefer an Auror or Hit Wizard on the case which is why I've included you both. If either of you are assigned, let me know and I'll give you what notes I've taken so far.

I agree, this needs to be investigated, but I don't know if there is much( if anything ) the DMLE can do in regards to the dreams as it isn't exactly a matter of law. Going a step further, I'm not quite sure who would take ownership of this. Logically, I would think the Department of Mysteries, but it could very well be Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. I'm sure the DMAC is swamped today, but I may be able to go down there and ask them. I'm not quite sure where Gaskin is at the moment.

The DMLE could investigate until such time as it is discovered what caused it and then, if needed, turn it over to the proper department. If it was a magical accident that caused it, then yes, the DMAC. If it was a dangerous wizard or witch, then that would have to remain with us here.

The public is scared and that means they will turn to this department. Better to at least attempt to mention it, before it runs rampant and the Ministry is accused of ignoring it. For all we know Gaskin himself had a nightmare and would like this looked into. I think it's in everyone's best interest to make sure this gets looked into sooner rather than later.

All I request is someone bring it to attention, so that it's investigated, by whomever is appropriate. If it's decided it's not worth investigating on the record, I'll continue to do so off of it. But I'd prefer to be able to use DMLE resources legitimately, or have someone else I trust to get the job done do so.

I agree with Longbottom on the matter. This is rather concerning but until evidence of foul play is found there isn't much that can be done by the DMLE - on the record, at least. It just isn't within our scope. I would tend towards thinking that it will be right within the scope of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes.

Just as the DMAC may investigate the cause of this event and turn it over to us if it is a criminal investigation--and honestly speaking, they may be better equipped to do so. In any case, it may just be more responsible to ensure that they are the ones that will cover this case and request for our assistance should there be a need to do so. It will likely be all about resource allocation. You do remember the staff meeting the other day? We have a lot on our plates right now. That isn't to say that this is of importance, but practically speaking, we can't do everything.

I doubt that Gaskin would hold back should he wish for anything to be investigated, but I'll let him know in passing that it is a concern to some. However, I make no promises on whether this matter is addressed by the DMLE.

You've a point. The bottom line is I simply want attention brought to it and if I'm the one who speaks up about it, it's likely to be ignored. I've no care as to whom the lead on investigating is; my concern is simply that it does get investigated, by whichever department is deemed appropriate.

Thanks, Macmillan.
