Michael took the time that Lavender explained the exchange in her margins to eat some of his cake, but he was still attentive. If there was one thing you could count on Michael about, it was that he would listen, even to Lavender's fairly lengthy stories. He even enjoyed them. Of course this one wasn't very enjoyable considering the subject. Michael waited until she finished, but he just couldn't get over the last bit. He'd never, ever heard Justin speak to someone like this. He was always loving and forgiving, even to people who were rude to him, so he just couldn't understand this attack on Lavender. It truly hurt him.

Michael reached across the table and took her hand. "Hey Lav, I'm sorry. I never would have thought that Justin would react like that. I mean, he's your friend, for Merlin's sake. I just - I don't know what's going on with him. I'm sorry this happened.

"Look, I don't want to be stuck in the middle of this, but I do support you, y'know. Regardless of whether I agree with everything you've said, I still support you and respect your opinions and I always have. I just hate that it turned out like this. I wish it had gone better. I can't believe Justin's reacting this way. And even when Ernie is telling him not to!"
