Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!status: complete, ^date: november 09 2003, character: alicia spinnet, character: george weasley

Who: Alicia Spinnet and George Weasley
What: There's nothing like tossing a quaffle to put your troubles in perspective
Where: Hogsmeade Community Pitch (small quidditch pitch by the residential part of Hogsmeade)
When: November 9, 4 PM
Rating: Likely PGish, with the occasional bad language

Alicia had to work her 'other job' that night, and she was in no mood for it - however, it was a decent night to line her purse. While few blokes spent their Sundays at the Honepot, few of the dancers did either, which meant that those willing to work were often well compensated by those that did come. The only positive thing was that she hadn't had one of those nightmares last night, and for a while could go without the thought of being strangled.

She needed to get out of her flat, somplace where she could just fly. The pick-up game in memory of Harry had reminded her how long it had been since she'd flown regularly, and she needed that again. Grabbing her broom and a quaffle, she Apparated to the small pitch near Hogsmeade.

It was a lovely day with the sun shining and the wind picking up enough to promise an enjoyable flight. She looked around and saw she wasn't quite a lone, a witch and a young boy were practicing flying close to the ground - it was likely the boy's first time on a broom, judging by his technique. She smiled, remembering how her own father had taken her for her first solo flight when she was nine (before that, he'd had trouble resisting her pleas, begging to be taken with him when he flew).

Her heart already warmer than it had been moments ago, she straddled her broom and set her sights on the sky, kicking off from the ground with a joyous yell.

It was the yell that caught George's attention where he sat in the stands. He'd been watching the kid who was getting his first flying lesson, remembering when his older brothers had taken him and Fred for their fist flight. He'd stopped by the pitch to post a few fliers for blokes interested in joining his Holyhead Harpies cheerleading team. He'd been thinking endlessly about Quidditch since he'd talked to Angie the previous night. He hadn't really played much since losing Fred, really only the memorial game, but he missed the thrill of flying, even if it hurt a bit to think of. But when he'd heard that shout, he quickly looked to see who it was, and was pleasantly surprised to see Ally speading into the air. He leaned back and watched her fly around for a bit with a smile on his face.

When she flew closer he let out a loud whistle to catch her attention and waved, seeing if shed touch down long enough to say hello. He hadn't talked to her recently, but the meeting last night had left him worried about her, and he'd been thinking of her as much as Qudditch. He wanted the chance to make sure she was alright, and to offer any help he might be able to give. "Oy Ally!" he called.

She was free, free from worries, and nightmares, and waking up to a lonely bed most mornings. All she could feel was the wind in her hair, and the movement in her stomach as she zoomed up and down. This was what it meant to live, and as always, she wondered why she didn't do it enough anymore.

But then, adulthood often pushed such pleasures of youth to the side, didn't it.

She heard a loud whistle and looked in its direction, seeing a familiar head of ginger and a hand waving at her. She smiled and turned her broom around to head back toward the stands and brought it to a float not too far from where he sat.

"Oh George," she replied, in a far better mood than she'd been at the meeting the day before. "Where's your broom? I've brought a quaffle, if you'd like to toss it about for a bit."

George stood as she floated near to him and smiled at her. "Looking good, Ally, you haven't lost a bit of your skill on a broom have you?" he put his hands in his pockets as she spoke. "I didn't bring it, actually, was just passing by for the most part, but I can borrow one, I'd love to get back out there, haven't played seriously in a long time." She seemed in much better spirits than the previous evening, so he felt better about her and less worried as he headed to grab one of the extra brooms kept at the pitch. He picked out the least rundown looking one and thought he needed to pull his nicer one out next time.

After choosing the broom, he mounted and zoomed out towards where she was waiting for him. "I hope you're ready for this, Spinnet. I'm a force to be recconned with on a broom!" He sped towards her, forcing her to dodge him and made a grab for the quaffle, but he hadn't been a chaser when they'd played, he wasn't anywhere near as skilled as she on that particular front.

She made a turn of the pitch as he went to fetch a broom. She smiled, thinking how nice it would be to do even this. She realized she hadn't spent much time with anyone other than Mel, Angie, Katie and Ginny lately, and it was long past time she reconnected with some old friends.

And George had always been fun to be around. Well, until Fred...

Luckily, before she could dwell any further on thoughts of her lost friend, George came out flying. "Oh, I'm always ready, Weasley! In fact, I'll even give you a head start!"

She tossed the quaffle his way. After all, she was a chaser, and chasing was what she loved to do best.

George caught the Quaffle confidently and tucked it under his arm, getting a tight hold on it. He knew he was no match for her chasing skills and experience, but he'd be damned if he wasn't going to try, or if he'd say anything to her about it! He sped off as quickly as his broom would allow, which sadly wasnt all that fast, but it didn't matter. Just having the wind whipping around him was a great, and as he focused on that he stopped paying attention to what he was doing, and soon found he'd lost the Quaffle to Ally, unsurprisingly.

He turned around and got his mind back on the moment and chased after her, speeding along as fast as he could make the broom go until he'd caught up once again and tried to knock the ball from her grip.

This was even more wonderful than simply flying. The thrill of the chase... It didn't take long to catch him - he was flying on a sub-standard broom, after all - and she sped away toward the other end of the pitch where a single hoop stood in waiting. This was just a small pitch, so there was only room for one hoop at each end.

To her surprise, he came up quickly behind her and made a move for the ball. She swerved out of his reach, but he was rather skilled himself and managed to knock the quaffle out of her arms. She went slightly off-kilter, but quickly managed to catch herself before risking falling off the broom. She grinned at him again before diving down to get the quaffle.

"Enjoy the view, Weasley - you'll be seeing a lot of it!"

He let out a triumphant laugh when he managed to dislodge the Quaffle, but it slipped through his fingers after, and she recovered quicker than he did, diving down after it. He shot down behind her, and chuckled to himself at her comment, not minding the view in the least. In fact, he made a point of hanging just a little bit back so she would realize what it was he was doing, and allowed her to make a goal.

"Oh, sorry, was just taking your advice and enjoying the view!" he said with a devilish grin on his face. He fully expected to be hit or attacked or something. After all, he'd been messing with the girls on his team since second year, it was an old habit, and he usually left with bruises for it, but they were happily earned and proudly worn!

Ally caught the quaffle and started heading for the hoop, but noticed George wasn't quite catching up to her as fast as he had before. She peeked back over her shoulder and chuckled in amazement. The bugger was checking her out! In all honesty, she wasn't as used to that when she was fully clothed, especially not when in just a jumper and denims, with her fall coat on.

When he commented, admitting as such, she just couldn't let it go by. "I'm starting to get why you were a 'beater', George!"

She turned sharply and started coming toward him, and when she was close enough, she threw the quaffle at his head.

Even though George had no idea what her "other job" was, he would have quickly and happily declared that she was one of the fittest girls he knew, and that there was plenty to stare at. He'd always found her attractive, but he'd also never made a move, not thinking she was interested in return. He might be cocky and obnoxious at best, but he didn't like rejection, just like everyone else, so he usually just didn't set himself up for the fall. He just made snarky comments instead.

He laughed at her comment. "Oh, ouch Ally! Low blow! And after all those years I kept your pretty head from getting beat in by those bludgers, you'd think a little more respect could be found for it!" When the Quaffle came flying at him, he instinctively ducked out of the way, and then almost fell off his broom, making a right fool of himself, but laughing all the way through as he managed to right himself. He flew down to the ground and picked up the Quaffle where it had fallen, and then instead of flying back up to her level, raced off close to the ground towards the goal at the other end of the pitch.

She gasped in worry a moment as it looked like George might fall off his broom, but thankfully, he righted himself. She shook her head. Of course he was laughing like a loon - he'd (almost) always managed to laugh in even the worst of circumstances. It was one of the things that had made him a good friend.

"Be careful, your holiness!" she shouted as she casually floated in the air, waiting for him to fetch the quaffle. "I think they'll revoke your sainthood for falling off your broom!"

To her amazement - and she admitted she was somewhat impressed - he remained low to the ground as he headed for the hoop. She'd expected him to fly up before heading that way, and it meant she was lagging in flying off to catch him. Luckily, her broom was the same one she'd used back at school, and when they flew together, they were nearly one entity.

She reached out as she approached him, planning on trying to grab the quaffle from him. Or, if he said anything else about the view, she'd knock him off his broom. There wasn't far to fall at this height.

He didn't hear the gasp, or she never would have heard the end of actually being worried about him. He did have a knack of laughing at himself, something he was glad about, because if you couldn't laugh at yourself, you sure as hell couldn't successfully run a joke shop. Still, her little jab at his missing ear made him grin even wider. He put a cupped hand up to said missing ear and leaned towards her a little. "What? What was that? I can't hear you!" he joked.

Of course, Ally was on him much faster than he'd hoped she'd be, she was much more familiar with her broom, and it was much better than his. Still, he wasn't going to just let her take it from him without a fight. He was only about half way up the pitch, he wanted to make a score. "Now who is enjoying the view, Spinnet?" he even wiggled his ass a little as she came up right behind him.

Oh, that little bugger... All right, she did look, but she was human, after all. However, he still needed to be punished for that remark.

Tucking her bottom lip between her teeth, she streamlined herself to lower wind resistance until her broom was right next to his. Finally, she reached out...

... and shoved him off his broom.

George was busy laughing and clutching the Quaffle, so when she came up next to him, he was not at all expecting her to forcefully dismount him from his own broom. Yet suddenly, there was nothing under him, the broom disappeared, and he was still moving in a forward direction, but it didn't take long for him to hit the ground at a rather fast speed. He tumbled and covered his head with his arms until he came to a rest. He then rolled onto his back, a bit stunned for a moment, staring at the sky and catching his breath. He was covered in grass stains and dirt now, and even had to spit some grass out of his mouth.

He sat up and looked over to where she was. "You think you're pretty clever, don't you!" he called to her with a smile so she knew he was unharmed. The boy who had been getting a lesson though seemed quite content to be done flying after seeing George go skipping like a rock on water across the pitch. "Ow," he said, rubbing his head as she came closer.

While shoving him had seemed like a good idea, actually watching him tumbling on the ground was another. She followed him on her broom until he finally stopped. Only when he sat up did she heave a sigh of relief that he was all right. She set down next to him and dismounted.

"I'll have you know I'm much more than clever," she teased, bending down to look at his head. "I'm sure it can't hurt that much. You've always been hard-headed."

She reached out to touch the ginger hair, checking to see if there was any blood among the strands.

He smiled up at her. "I don't know if I'll recover," he said jokingly. "I might need to be taken care of, I don't know if I should be left alone." He laughed a bit. "Thank goodness for that, a thick skull does come in handy sometimes."

He was bleeding a bit, but not profusely. Not that you could tell in the curly red hair, but once she checked for it, she was bound to find it. "Am I dying? Do you think I'll survive?"

She snorted. "No, you shouldn't be left alone, but that's not the reason," she teased. "You get up to more trouble that way, after all."

She found the blood, but it was barely a scalp wound. She pulled out her wand and cast a low-level healing spell, sealing it up with barely a scar left behind. Thank Merlin for her time playing quidditch, as many of them had learned such spells for just these occasions. "There, I think you'll live," she announced, petting his hair back.

"It's a good thing, too, else I'd have the whole Weasley family on my arse. And between you and me, I'm terrified of your mum."

"Maybe you should come keep me company, keep me out of trouble, yea?" He knocked his knee into hers and wiggled his eye brows a bit, smiling in a knowing way.

He felt the cut close up, a strange sensation, but one he was used to. He and Fred always managed to get themselves injured on a regular basis when they were younger, they had a number of old scars from failed experiments before they opened the shop. Well, at least George still did. He smiled when she brushed his hair down, enjoying the feel of it, but not really thinking deeply on the matter as to why. Really, he just liked female attention, that was enough thinking on it for him.

"Yea, they might be a tad angry with you for that, not going to lie. And don't feel bad, my mum scares me too. That's kind of her thing."

She tried, she really tried not to laugh, but she was lost at his knowing grin. She nearly lost her balance and chose instead to sit on her hip next to him. "You think you're so smooth, don't you," she teased. "Don't the Muggles have a rhyme about you? Georgie, porgie, pudding pie, kissed the girls and made them cry?"

Once she might have fallen over herself at his offer - back in her hormone-fueled days at Hogwarts - but now she just took it as more silliness from George. He was comfortable to be with, an old friend with a welcome history.

Though that didn't quite explain why her fingers were still trailing down his hair.

He smiled as she sat down next to him, quite happy to be closer to her. He may have been joking, but he also wasn't, he'd be more than happy to spend some quality one on one time with her, if she was interested, but he wasn't going to push it either. He wasn't the kind of guy to try and push himself on women, he respected them way to much. He hadn't really had much of a choice growing up with Molly and Ginny. "What the bloody hell is that? I've never heard that before. I try not to make girls cry, really I don't think I'm that bad at snogging! And yes, I am very smooth, thank you very much for noticing."

He hadn't really been one to offer during school, which he realized later was his loss because a number of girls had been willing to go then, and he'd been completely oblivious to it, having been focused on Quidditch and getting things ready for the shop. But still, he was comfortable with her too, able to say what he wanted without worrying that she might take it offensively.

He rather liked the way she was caressing his hair, and he smiled at her, not saying anything to draw her attention to it or make her stop.

This time she chuckled freely. "It's just a rhyme I heard. Spent a bit of time with Muggles doing my studies, and I overheard one of the girls say it to her daughter. Reminded me of you - but then, you're the only George I know."

Her fingers continued to stroke his hair - it was more of a comforting gesture, though for him or her, she didn't consciously know.

"I don't konw why the muggles have some rhyme to warn about me, seems a bit excesive really. I don't think I've ever kissed a muggle before." He thought about it for a moment, he'd kissed quite a few people, but he'd been raised in a pureblood family, he hadn't had a whole lot of contact with muggles over the years, as much as his father found them fascinating. He was much more interested in their objects than the actual people after all.

His smile fell and he became more serious, realizing she might be a bit off right about now, after the meeting the previous night. He reached up and took her hand in his, then held it with in both his hands and looked her in the eyes. "Hey, you alright? I know you've been suffering from this shite going on, but if there's anything I can do, you know to ask, yea?"

The hand in his hair fell away as her other one was taken. She wasn't used to such a serious expression on his face, and unfortunately, it had her thinking of everything all over again.

Just when she'd managed to forget it for a little while.

"I'm fine," she replied with a shrug, looking down to where his hands held hers. "Katie stayed over last night, and I didn't have the nightmare. Probably should have expected it, though, since it's been every two days, almost like clockword."

She sighed and shook her head, almost as if she was trying to rid herself of the memories. "I'll be fine. I'm working late tonight at my other job, and I'll get up tomorrow and do it all over again. Don't worry about me, okay?"

He felt bad for making the smile disappear. He much prefered her smiling, it made her whole face light up, and he couldn't help but return any smile she aimed at him. But when she looked as sad and worried as she did now, he couldn't help but worry more about her.

"If you ever need someone else to stay over, I don't mind, I've slept on pleanty of couches, it doesn't bother me. I imagine it's probably better having someone around if that shite does happen."

He gave her a quizical look at her next comment. "I didn't know you had another job. Where do you work that you have late nights? And I'm gonna worry about you one way or another, Als, you'll have to get over that."

Her lips were briefly overcome with a smirk. "If I let you sleep on my couch, what's to guarantee you'll stay there?" she teased, though it didn't sound as playful as she'd tried for. It was hard to push herself out of those memories when she was reminded of her dreams. "For all I know, I'll wake up with you in my bed."

At the back of her mind, she thought that really wouldn't be such a bad thing, but she quickly shushed it.

She was both glad and nervous that he'd asked about her other job - though it was nice to know he worried about her. It made her feel less alone. "It's just a late shift at some Muggle fast food place. I'm rather embarassed about it, really, but it shouldn't be too long until my debt's paid up and my client base gets bigger. We do what we have to do, you know?" She really hoped he dropped it - she hated lying in such a way.

He smiled at her, still holding onto her hand and leaning an elbow on his knee. "Hey, I can't help myself around beautiful women, it's not my fault. But it'd probably only take one swift kick to the arse to get me to stay put on the couch, I learn quickly."

He nodded, interested. "Really, that's different, yea? I've never eaten at a muggle fast food place before, though I've listened to my dad talk about how fascinating they are. Maybe I'll try it out, which one is it and where is it? I'll stop by and visit."

She smiled more genuinely this time, knowing she could certainly kick his arse if it were necessary.

Ally nearly panicked, however, when he suggested he visit her 'workplace'. "No!" she reacted, then calmed herself enough to answer something a little less suspicious. "I mean, it's greasy, and I have to wear an ugly uniform with a hairnet. I'd rather nobody see me working there, if you don't mind."

Her eyes pleaded with him to drop it, and she really hoped he listened.

He jumped at her sudden no, which left him suspicious. "Alright, don't lose your head, if you really don't want me there, then I'll not come. Still, I bet you're the best looking one there in that uniform," he winked at her, trying to get the smile back on her face, though he honestly didn't know if he believed her story so much. Seemed an over reaction to him, but he decided whatever her job was, muggle food or not, it wasn't really his business if she didn't want him to know.

"What about the massage thing, you're still doing that, right? With the stress going around the wizarding world, you might get an influx of customers. Hell, I might make an appointment." He thought about Percy, who was obviously having the dreams as well, even if he wouldn't say it. If that spot only showed up on people suffering, then that meant one of his family members had a target on him. Again. It never seemed to end.

She let out a breath, relieved he appeared to be dropping the subject. She did, however, blush at the idea of being the best looking in her 'uniform'. If only he knew what that uniform really consisted of.

"Yeah, still doing the massage. I love it, I do, but it's taking a while to bring it over to the wizard side of things. It'll take off soon, though, I'm sure of it. And of course I'll do you," she agreed, nodding enthusiastically. "Friends get a discount, after all. I'd say a five-finger one, but I use all ten."

It was a terrible joke, but one that often got a laugh back in massage school.

"And then you can recommend me to anyone you know who can use it."

He noticed the blush, which only made him smile more, but in a genuine way, not in a joking, poking fun way. He really meant ever word he said about her being beautiful. She was beautiful, and he had a feeling she didn't hear it enough.

"Brill, I'm sure you're right, it'll pick up, once the wizards figure out how beneficial it is." He smirked and laughed a little at her "do you" comment, his mind going straight to the gutter, but he didn't touch it, he was sure she saw his face and knew exactly what he was thinking. "Oh har har," he said at her joke. "That was just sad, Als, really!"

He nodded. "Yea, I'd be sure to promote you. Hey, if you ever want to post some fliers at my shop for it or something you're more than welcome to advertise there. Always happy to help a friend. And I might send my whole family to you, think they could all use a break from the stress they're going through." Especially Ron, he thought. But Ron was such a prude, he'd probably be uncomfortable, especially since he knew Ally.

She nodded, happy that he sounded quite enthusiastic about it - though she did notice the look on his face at her earlier words, she simply chose to ignore it, for now. "I'd be glad to help any of them. I can only imagine what they've been going through this week. I make house calls, so they wouldn't even have to leave the comfort of home."

She squeezed her hand around one of the ones still holding hers. It hadn't quite dawned on her that neither of them had let go, as it comforted her.

"I saw you chatting with Angie yesterday," she offered, trying to change the subject away from why people would need relief from stress lately. "Everything's good, yeah?"

"Even better, I imagine if they don't have to go anywhere that'll make them even more willing to take you up on it." He knew he wouldn't mind a house call. There were some days that were more stressful than others, and days where the pain of losing Fred hit hard and he couldn't even get out of bed. Those days he wouldn't mind having a nice distraction like a relaxing massage. Or just someone around to kick his ass out of bed.

He was kind of glad she hadn't let go, he was enjoying holding onto her even just as simply as that. It felt nice and comforting for both of them.

He raised an eyebrow a bit, taken a bit by surprise at the sudden turn of conversation. "Oh, yea I did. I think everything is good. Haven't talked to each other in a while, and I have a feeling every time she looks at me she sees my brother. I mean, beyond the obvious fact that we were identical. Don't know if things will ever be the way they were between us, but it would be nice to see all of you girls more regularly. I guess I've been a bit of a recluse since graduating." Now his mood had fallen a bit, and he was becoming a little lost in his thoughts.

Watching his mood fall made her feel as if she'd just kicked a puppy. "Merlin, George, if anyone's had an excuse to be a recluse, it's you. Nobody blames you one bit."

This time she did let go of his hands, but only to pull him into a hug. She knew when she was down, that's what helped her most.

"Angie cared about Fred, but she cares about you too. We all do, even if you're a berk at times."

George waved a hand dismisively. "Maybe, but that's not really an excuse. I just shut everyone out, even my family, who were hurting just as much as me," well, not just as much. He had a hard time listening to anyone claim they knew how he felt on the Fred matter. Twins were different than normal siblings, and you couldn't understand that if you weren't one. He still five years later felt like half of him was missing, and frequently turned to tell Fred something in the shop, only to be reminded he wasn't there. He looked away from Ally for a moment to get his emotions back under control.

Then she hugged him, and he hadn't realized how much that would help. He hugged her back, closing his eyes for a moment to take comfort in the contact. The pain of losing Fred never went away. It had lessened a bit over the years, but not by much. He'd just learned how to live with it, but he'd never admitted to anyone how lonely he was. And he didn't plan to either. The last thing he wanted was for people to look at him with pity.

He nodded. "Yea, I know, but you can just tell when she looks at me. I feel bloody guilty, I wish I didn't look exactly like him so she wouldn't feel so bloody bad just seeing me." And really, at times he felt like some people cared more about Fred being gone than George being left behind. Another thing he'd never admit to was how many times he'd tried to follow after his brother in those early days after he was gone. Everyone missed Fred. No one realized how much George had died with his brother.

The way he hugged her back tugged at her heartstrings. When was the last time he'd let someone give him some genuine affection? He'd already admitting to shutting his own family out, after all, so it wasn't much of a stretch to imagine shutting out anyone else who might care enough to help. She gently stroked the hair at the nape of his neck.

"Now you listen to me," she insisted, her head leaning against his and her lips near his good ear. "You have nothing to feel guilty about. If she continues to see Fred whenever she sees you, then that's hers to get over. And she will, now that you're out and about more and she can see you more often. But you know what?"

She pulled back enough to look him in the eyes. "I for one am glad you're George, and that you're here with us. It very well could have been the other way around, or anyone else that died for that matter. I would have missed you. Actually have the last few years." She gave him a mocking glare. "But if you tell anyone I said that, I'll hex you."

George really hadn't let anyone get close to him, not since he and Angie had made that huge mistake of taking comfort in each other. That was undoubtedly part of the reason Angie felt uncomfortable around him, but he really wasn't sure if anyone knew about that, or if she wanted anyone to, so he didn't bring it up. Still, it would be nice to be close to someone again, he thought while he held her close. He'd sometimes forgotten that people actually cared about what happened to him outside of his family.

He did listen to what she said, but he wasn't sure he agreed with it. He didn't blame Angie at all, after all he did have Fred's face, but he wished they could at least be somewhat back to their old ways and friendship. When she pulled back, he let go more reluctantly than he expected to, but what she said did make him smile. "Well at least someone still likes me, that's gotta count for something right?" he laughed a bit at her last comment. "Your deep dark secret is safe with me. What would I do without you Als?"

"You'd be a miserable son-of-a-bitch, is what," she replied with a grin and an affectionate pat to his cheek. "Now, you know what you have to do when you fall off your broom? You get right back on it."

She leaned forward to place a quick peck on his forehead, then stood up and offered her hands down to help him up. "Come on then, Georgie Porgie. So far we're tied at none-all. We can't have that, can we?"

He laughed at the nickname. "Why do I have a bad feeling I'm not going to hear the end of that lovely monicker for a while? If I start getting called that by anyone else I'll hunt you down!" he did agree getting back on the broom was usually the best thing to do, and he was usually the first one to hop back on. No doubt he'd have a few nice bruises from that tumble, his coworkers would wonder about that, so he started to think of the most bad ass story he could come up with for them.

The kiss to his forehead made him smile, and he took her hands and let her pull him up before purposely knocking her off of her balance to get a head start getting back in the air. He jumped on his broom, grabbed the Quaffle and raced off towards his goal post.

"You bastard!" she shouted as she fell face-first to the ground. She should have known he'd do that.

With a grin, she got right back up and straddled her broom, taking off after him. It was nice to see him in better spirits and hopping back onto his brooth.

Both the literal and metaphorical senses.

George laughed over his shoulder as she mounted up and came after him. His head start meant he was able to make it just about to the hoop before she was on him again, so he pulled his arm back and flung the Quaffle at the hoop.

It was close, he almost missed, he wasn't great scoring in this game, but enough pick up games meant he was able to bounce it off the rim of the hoop and barely make it in. He let out a whoop of triumph and smiled widely at her, holding his hands out in a "how do you like me now" kind of way, even though he'd kind of cheated, really that was the only way he had a chance of beefing her.

"You arse!" she cried out as he managed to score. This was now WAR.

She swooped to collect the quaffle where it fell from the hoop, and without stopping, swerved around to head for the other end. She didn't look behind her, didn't allow herself to be distracted by anything other than the sight of the hoop before her and the quaffle in her arms.
