Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!status: complete, ^date: november 08 2003, character: angelina johnson, character: george weasley

Who: Angelina and George
What: Talking after the meeting for the first time in a while
Where: Outside Luna's place
When: November 8, right after the DA meeting
Rating: Work Safe most likely!

The meeting was breaking apart, people heading their separate ways. George made sure to thank Luna for hosting before he left, and watched to make sure Ron was off before leaving, just in case he decided to launch another attack on Ern in the confusion of everyone leaving. Not that he expected it to happen, but all the same, he kept a close eye on him until he disappeared. After that, he stepped out of Luna's place and into the cool night air, taking a few deep breaths and putting his hands in his pockets. It was a nice night, and a full moon on top of that. He wondered how many werewolves there were running about at that moment, but that thought wasn't really helpful or comforting.

Just as he was getting ready to leave, a few more people pushed passed him, saying goodbye as they went, and then he spotted Angie, and realized what a long time it had been since he'd spoken to her. Besides, the last time they'd had a real conversation he hadn't been his normal self, still stuck in that never ending hole of depression. "Oy Angie," he called out, moving to catch up to her. "Hold up, yea? Haven't seen you in a long time, how are you doing?"

Angie cursed herself for not thinking ahead. It was a bloody DA meeting. Of course George was going to be there. She just...hadn't really thought about it until she saw him. It had been a while since they'd last spoken and she wasn't sure what to expect. She signaled to the girls to wait a bit for her and turned back to him.

"Yeah it's been ages," she replied, her tone sounding a lot easier and clam than she felt. God, it had been too long and looking at George brought back too many memories at once. Some were good, some were bad, and all of them made him think of George. She smiled at him and it wasn't quite as bright as she wished it could be, but it certainly wasn't faked. "I'm all right. Been worse, yeah? How're you, George? You're looking good." It was true, actually. He looked a far cry better than the last time she'd seen him.

He almost thought that she seemed reluctant to talk to him, but it passed in a moment. She looked really good, and it seemed so much longer than it really had been since he'd last seen her. They'd both been in worse shape than they were now, no doubt, and George was glad he wasn't the only one who had seemed to recover a good bit.

Seeing her didn't bring back nearly as many memories of Fred as it did for her, but then again, seeing his family and living at the shop meant he was constantly bombarded with it, so he'd probably gotten used to it more than she had. "You look good too, Ang, I hear you're kickin' some arse on the Holyheads. I meant to make the last game, sorry I missed it, stuff came up at work." That was a lame excuse, he'd changed his mind at the last moment about being out in the crowd. Some days were harder than others, and Quidditch was something he'd not spent much time on since Fred died. "I'll make the next one though." He glanced over her shoulder at the girls waiting for her, and waved. He knew them well enough.

Angie came close, wondering how she'd let them get so far apart. When he brought up the Harpies, she grinned broadly. "That's right I am. It's too bad, you missed a great match. We had such a good season." She hesitated a moment and then added, "If you'd like some decent seats, you can just let me know, yeah? I can always get a few for a friend."

She tucked a stray hair behind her ear and then asked, "How's the shop doing? I haven't been in in ages. Did you have good pre-Halloween sales?" Talking about work. It was a step in the right direction anyway.

George never would have even thought to blame Angie for them drifting. He would have easily and quickly told her it was his falt for his three year funk. He'd had some nights where he never wanted to see anyone ever again, and only his family literally dragging him back home and forcing him to live got him through those periods. "No kidding? Yea, I'd love to be front and center so I can cheer you on proper. Should I bring my pom poms too?" He smiled, completely serious, almost certain he could find a pair of pom poms in his dad's garage full of muggle things.

George ran a hand through his red hair and smiled. "Shop's good, actually, never seen business this good before. Hate to say it, but it seems when things are bad, that's when business gets good. Of course, these days I let the dog run things," he laughed a little, thinking of his scruffy little mutt who had full reign of the shop. "And yea, not only a sale, but lots of new things for the masses, all Halloween themed. Went over really well, still got a bit left, but I figured I'd just leave it out on sale, see if anyone takes it. Otherwise it's just taking up space in the back."

George may not have thought to blame Angie, but Angie did. She just didn't bring it up, because she honestly didn't know how, nor did she actually want to have that conversation. "'Course," she replied with a light shrug. "What good's coming to a match if you can't bloody-well see anything?" When he mentioned pom-poms though, Angie chuckled. "Ok, now I'm holding you to it. Pom-poms and all."

Angie nodded at his comment. "It makes sense. When there's so much darkness, people look for ways to smile and laugh. With so many having these nightmares and these murders...well, it's not surprised people look for a guaranteed laugh where they can find it. I hope it works. At the very least, it's giving you good business."

Something more seemed on the very tip of her tongue to say, but she hesitated and then let the moment pass.

He laughed a bit too. "Well in that case, consider me at the next game as your cheerleader. I'll see if I can round up some of the other blokes too, we'll even practice some moves." He was already thinking of who might join him in that, and he had a few ideas for sure. "Just let me know when that is, so I have enough time to practice, yea?"

"Yes, it does, and I'm happy to supply the needed happiness in the shite times we're in. At least someone should, right? Anyways, I wish there was more I could do. I mean, I'm not having the dreams or any of those spots or what have you. Feel like I could be doing more, y'know?" He shook his head a little, it was frustrating, especially when people he cared about were experiencing these things, and seemed really scared about it. He didn't even notice that there was a moment there when Angie seemed ready to say more, but didn't.

"Let me know how many you can bring, and I'll get you all seats," Angie laughed, already picturing George and Lee cheering with muggle pompoms. "I will, I'll find out our schedule for next season when it's final and get you lot tickets to the first match."

Angie found herself nodding as George spoke. "I know what you mean. And I'm the same. No dreams, not spots, but Ally's been having them and it worries me. There doesn't seem to be much I can do to help, and I really want to, you know?"

"Oh don't worry, I'll start recruiting tomorrow, you'll have a number before too long. Hey maybe we can make it a regular thing, The Harpies will be the only team with a male muggle cheerleading squad, might give you an edge. You know, not that you need one, but all the same." He smiled, looking forward to this already. Lee would definitely be in, he was pretty sure he could get Justin and Dean, probably Seamus to participate too. Maybe some others.

George looked past Angie to where the girls were waiting and saw where Ally was standing. It had made him uncomfortable to know that she was suffering from this shite. She was a good friend, he didn't want anyone he cared about to be in trouble, he wouldn't be able to sleep at night if he knew that his friends and family were in immediate danger. "Yea, buggar all this, we need to figure out what's going on. Just when you think there might be some kind of normal to life, right? All that abnormal shite comes right back at you. Tell Ally to watch her back for me, yea?"

He felt a bit like he was holding them all up then. "Hey, don't want to stop you girls from whatever fun you had planned. Have a drink or two for me, and don't be a stranger Angie. I miss talking to you."

"I think the rest of the girls would appreciate it," Angie replied with a chuckle, looking forward to it herself. Angie watched as George looked past her to the Ally and Katie chatting and waiting for her to meet up with Melinda. She nodded in response to George's caution. "I will, and I'll be watching it for her too. We ought to get the whole lot of us together again sometime."

When he said he missed her, Angie felt something inside her wrench a little and she impulsively stepped forward to hug him. "I miss you too George. And I'm sorry I've been such a stranger." On chat and one hug wouldn't bring back their previous closeness, but it was a start. However, the girls were waiting and she ought to go. "I'll drop by the shop soon, all right?"
