One bad decision leads to another.
Characters: Angie & Cade
Setting: The Nag’s Head Pub in Porthmadog Wales, Friday night November 7th, after Justin's party.
Summary: Angie wants to drink just enough to make a bad decision.
Rating: Will eventually be not work-safe

Angie left Justin's party while it was still going strong. Her mind hadn't been there really, and she'd probably apologise to Justin later - assuming her noticed since there were plenty of other people there to distract him. It had been a good time but Angie still cut out when she did, headed home and changed her clothes. She knew exactly where she wanted to go and what she was intending, and the way she'd been dressed for Justin's wasn't, well, suitable.

It would probably stun Ally and Melinda both to know that Angie had this dress in her closet, much less was actually putting it on willingly, but she had to admit a certain fondness for it and yet rarely wore it. She roughed up the bold sexiness of it with studded boots, threw on a nice warming charm, donned her coat and headed for Porthmadog.

Porthmadog had a few wizarding shops and pubs hidden - in plain sight if you knew where to look - including the one called the Nag's Head, which was Angie's destination. It wasn't a dive, exactly. the floor were clean in the early evening at least, and there was good food, better service, and even better drinks. The firewhiskey was excellent, and they brought in some stronger racial brews as well. Better yet, the ale wasn't a bit watered down. It was a bit pricey for anything close to top shelf, but you were getting what you paid for. Angie however didn't exactly intend to be buying herself too many drinks.

She found a spot at the bar after doffing her coat and leaving it at the closet in the front. Handily spelled so that only the wearer or bartenders could remove a patron's coat for that patron, it was a surety she'd get it back later. She found herself at the bar fully prepared to buy her own first round if no one jumped at the chance to save her the trouble. It was late, so there was already a decent crowd and she turned a few heads relatively quickly. Good. She wanted to get pissed and belligerent, and the faster the better. It didn't take too long before she'd gotten herself to the 'happy' stage, which for Angie meant challenging the unsuspecting to a drinking contest. Which to some of those men, meant being emasculated outdrunk by a pretty woman in a very fitting red leather dress.

She was well on her way to a much better night than she'd had in a while.

Cade watched, slightly amused as Angelina's opponent in the drinking contest finally gave up the ghost and slid to the floor. He took the opportunity to elbow closer, ignoring the grumbles of irritation and silencing the drunken insults hurled at him with a hard look. "Why am I here?" He echoed as leaned against the table. He cast his glance around the pub before settling it back on her. "I imagine the same reason most everyone here is." So saying, he swallowed down his drink, jaw working as the particularly strong brew burned its way down.

He couldn't help the brief flash of a hard smile at Angelina's protest. "Hardly wear dresses? Well, you're hardly wearing that one, so I'd say you're keeping with your record." His eyes moved over her in a long sweep to emphasize his point.

Angie let out a huff, tossing her head much like a mare and the black curtain of it actually smacked an overeager patron behind her right in his face. She didn't notice. She did however notice the looks Cade was getting from the crowd around her. "That isn't what I meant. I meant why'd you have the pick the same pub I did?"

She held up her empty glass, casting about to see who'd be quickest to offer a refill. But her attention was drawn instead back to Cade when he said that. "Oh very funny, Warrington. Getting a good look are you? Well no mask for either of us to be behind tonight, yeah?" The guy who'd been hit by her hair offered to by her next round, just a little louder than the rest, and over Angie's head he glared daggers at Cade as though both angry the other man was commanding Angie's attention at the moment and challenging him to see if he could actually keep it.

Cade's lips twitched again just the slightest in amusement as he watched Angelina unwittingly slap a would-be suitor in the face with her hair. The poor bastard looked like he wasn't quite sure what had just happened.

Returning his attention to Angelina, a brow went up at her clarification. "Last I checked, I didn't need to get your permission to visit a pub in my own country. Hell, in my own county." Her gall irked him just a bit, even though he knew she was well on her way to being three sheets. And while he could have easily gotten a refill for her, Cade decided he wasn't about to contribute to her state.

"Wasn't trying to be funny. Easy enough for me to get a look when you're on display like that," Cade retorted before downing the rest of his drink. The burn on the way down had dulled a little, but not by much. He gestured to the bartender for a refill of his own, eyes pinning Angelina. "And I'm hardly the only one looking." His gaze very pointedly cut to the man attempting to buy Angelina another drink. A man who looked like he'd love to hex Cade blind if he could and Cade very much hoped he'd try.

The poor bloke who'd been hair-slapped was rewarded the honor of getting her her next drink - once that look from Cade brought Angie's attention to him. Awaiting her next firewhiskey, Angie went right back to scowling at Cade. "Bloody hell, I forgot you in in the same ruddy county I do. It's a wonder we haven't run into each other here before then."

She narrowed her eyes at him, trying to rationalise when his assessment of her clothing was irritating her so much, when the attention (and ease of the dress) was the very reason she'd chosen it. "If you were the only one looking, I'd wonder if I hadn't tried hard enough." She took the drink from whatever the bloke's name was - she thought it might have been Rupert, or Reginald, or even Randolph - and downed it in it one swallow. Her eyes were still on Cade as she did.

She gestured to his own clothing. "Did you just come straight off duty?" The dark leather suited him quite well actually, and fit him even better. She set down her glass and didn't make moves for another.

"Not so surprising considering I don't get out much," Cade said plainly. He knew well he worked too many hours and had practically no social niceties. Usually, when he went out, he was looking for a fight or a shag or both, and this was one of those rare occasions.

And Angelina was making a fine attempt at getting his blood up,t hat was for certain. "I'm not dead and I'm not blind. You don't have to try to so hard to get anyone with working eyes to look." It wasn't so much a compliment as a statement of fact as far as Cade was concerned. "But that miniscule excuse for a dress doesn't hurt." There was another brazen sweep of her figure. That dress really didn't leave much to the imagination, but Cade's was doing its best to fill in the gaps.

"I did," Cade said as took his time making his way back up to Angelina's face. "Didn't much see the point of going home just to come back out."

Angelina squinted at him, trying to figure out if what he'd just said was a compliment or not. He didn't seem the sort to throw compliments out, and his tone had been so matter-of-fact. Whatever the case, Cade was making it pretty blatantly obvious he liked the view, and Angie was still torn between being flattered and irritated.

"Bloody hell, Warrington, I know I'm on display here, but is it really that difficult to remember where my face is?" She wasn't sure if she'd meant it to come out as a tease, but her tone was certainly more cross than she'd expected. "Or maybe you need a better look? Should I stand up, spin around for you?" A few murmurs of agreement and encouragement sounded from around her and she scowled. She hadn't actually meant to say that, not aloud anyway.

She hadn't quite put her finger on the fact that he was irritating her so much because she actually was finding him far more attractive than the rest of her coterie at the moment. All she knew that that he was definitely rubbing her the wrong way. "Or did you want a bloody picture to take with you?" she suddenly tacked on, feeling like what she'd said needed just a little more...something.

Cade could tell Angelina was getting irritated - well, more than usual - and it only served to hone the edge of the tension scraping him raw from the inside. He knew he was being downright insolent when he drawled, "Well, since you offered, how about it? I haven't a camera, but give us a twirl. Let's see if your back's as good as your front." He was goading her, wanted to see just what she'd do when pressed.

It was probably a truth that Angie could be very easily irritable. It was probably also a truth that she was easier irritated when she'd been drinking. However in her defense, she also considered it a truth that Cade Warrington was exceedingly good at being irritating. What did it matter she'd set herself up for that response?

"That wasn't," she replied, her tone bringing to mind flint striking steel, sparks and all, "an offer nor an invitation." She stood up but didn't turn around, instead she stepping closer, her hands balling into fists. It was all she could do to keep from hitting him. That shiny DMLE badge proclaiming him law enforcement was a decent deterrent. For now anyway.

She really, really wanted to hit him. Back as good as her front? Was he actually trying to make her angry? If so, he was doing a damn good job of it.

"Shouldn't have said it then," Cade countered to Angelina's denial. "I think your admirers are a bit disappointed." He gestured with his glass to the pack of practically salivating wizards crowded around Angelina, but kept his eyes on her.

She was angry. It radiated from her, and he wondered if she knew that she broadcasted her emotions so clearly. She had while back at Hogwarts, even on the pitch. It made her a little easy to predict sometimes, which honestly helped him keep up with her back then. Cade wondered if that had changed at all when she went pro.

Instead he asked, "Are you always this predictable or only on the pitch?"

"Fuck you," Angie replied succinctly, crossing her arms under her chest. She glanced around at the so-called suitors, having briefly forgotten they were there. That almost brought back her good humor, until Cade kept talking.
She turned back around, and there was fire in her eyes.

"Predictable? Bloody predictable? I'm not a bit predictable on the pitch, Warrington," she growled in response. "But if it's predictable to lose your bloody temper when talking to an irritating prat then, I'll have to admit to that one. Is this a talent you've perfected over the years? Being so..." She looked him up and down, disturbed to find that despite him annoying the hell out of her, he didn't seem a mite less attractive. "Insufferable," she added a moment later, hissing a little as she said it.

"I wouldn't say no if you're offering," Cade said with a shrug. He said it because he knew it would get a rise out of her - and because it was true. He wasn't blind and Angelina was no hardship to look at. Not to mention she had a mouth on her that could probably flay less confident men, and she could drink like a Carpathian dwarf. Truth be told, Cade found her more than a little appealing. Especially when she got even more irate.

Cade couldn't help the downright wolfish grin that crossed his face. "Many, many years of practice I'd say. And really, it's easy enough to know what gets under your skin when you're so easy to read. You're wide open, Johnson. Well." The last was paired with another pointed scan of her body from head to toe.

Angie blinked at that. She hadn't expected that reply, though really, she probably should have, given everything else he'd said so far. "That wasn't an offer either," she growled, angry that that wolfish smile on his face made him more attractive.

"I don't doubt that. You're about the most irritating, infuriating bloke I've had the displeasure of-" Her eyes widened and she cut herself off mid-tirade. Her voice dropped to a low hiss and she stepped closer, intending her words for his ears only. "You are lucky you're in uniform and we're in public, Warrington." Her hands balling into fists made it pretty clear what she meant by that.

Cade took in Angelina's aggressive stance, the anger rich in her voice, and found himself enjoying it quite a bit more than he initially expected. He quite liked her like this, riled and so close to losing her temper. He wonder what she looking like during a proper row and his mind supplied enough of a picture to start a small curl of lust low in his gut.

"You should be a bit more careful what you say." Whether he was referring to her not-offer or her thinly veiled threat, Cade didn't bother to clarify. The warning could apply to both. "Please, don't let that stop you. Unless you're afraid of the consequences."

Perhaps if she hadn't been drinking she would have been a little less likely to follow through, Perhaps. But she really wasn't that drunk; it was just that Warrington was annoyingly good at pressing buttons and he'd pretty much mashed them all by now.

"I lived through and fought in a fucking war, Warrington. I'm not afraid of you or your consequences." And before she thought the action through, Angelina hauled off and swung, aiming right for his face, jaw preferably. Maybe it'd wipe that smug look right off it.

She didn't go to slap or scratch. She punched with a closed fist, and put power behind her swing.

Cade knew it was coming, and he could have stopped Angelina, but he wanted to feel it, see how good she gave. She didn't disappoint. The crack of fist against jaw was hard enough to jerk his head and there'd definitely be a bruise in no time at all.

A stunned silence seemed to fall around them, and Cade's grin was downright predatory when it slice across his features. "I was hoping you'd say that." It was all he said before catching Angelina around the waist, pulling her close, and apparating them both away to end up in the foyer of his home.

Angelina felt pure satisfaction when her fist met Cade's jaw. She'd probably feel pain in her knuckle later, but right now all that mattered was that she hit and it felt good.

She wasn't sure what she was expecting in a response, but that smile was not it. It threw her off partly because it was unexpected and partly because it actually made her blood thrum. So she was completely taken by surprise when he wrapped an arm around her and apparated her...somewhere.

She was slightly dizzy for a moment - unexpected apparition did that - and then she noticed three things. One, she had no idea where she was. Two, Warrington was extremely close. Three, she was not afraid; she was turned on.

Still she shoved at him, but not with true conviction in the push. "Where the hell are we?" Her eyes were fixed on his face because it was suddenly very, very difficult to look away.

"Dwfr Du." Cade knew his response to Angelina's question wasn't much of an explanation at all. He didn't care. He had her alone, pressed against him, and her blood was up.

She tried to push him away, but there wasn't any real force behind it, something he found both curious and not entirely satisfying. "What's the matter?" His lip curled slightly, somewhere between a sneer and a smile. "All bluster now that we're alone? Need an audience to work up the courage to strike a man?" He wanted to push her, see how hard she'd push back now.

That didn't help one bit and she was sure he knew it. Blood warmed her skin, making it hot when he goaded her again. "Sorry, you've just pretty much kidnapped me and you're getting on my case for not being angry enough?" She shoved him harder now, her hands curling back into fists. "It wasn't the audience that made me hit you and you bloody well know it."

Her nostrils flared as she gave up trying to keep her temper under any sort of control. She was in a dangerous situation her. She was just drunk enough that apparating on her own was a bad idea, not to mention she didn't know where she was apparating from. But she was sober enough to be in control of herself and her actions - not that that was any comfort. Even without a drop of alcohol in her, she was still feisty and prone to trouble. "What you problem? Couldn't stand to let people see a woman hit you? That why you brought me here?"

That next shove was hard enough to break Cade's hold and his body hummed in interest. Ah, there it was, Cade thought with a kind of dark satisfaction that settled across his features. She was so close to letting that temper really explode and he wanted to play with that fire.

"Oh, my problems are many and varied but that's not one of them," Cade said, voice low and dangerous. "I brought you here, so I could see if you'd have the brass to hit me again without being obliged to arrest you for striking an auror." He stalked closer, unhooking the clasp on his cloak so it fell to the floor as he approached. "But I don't think you really have it in you. That or you're too scared to see what it leads to."

There was something about the way her was looking at her that made her very nearly shiver, and not in fear. Oh she was certain he could terrify someone when he needed to, but the dark look in his eyes only made her blood burn pleasantly.

His words however were still infuriating. "Why? What do you think it will lead to? I told you before," she replied, her voice crackling with heat, "I'm not afraid." Why he brought her here for a fight was beyond her at the moment, but she had no problem obliging. She let her fist fly again, remembering the satisfaction from when it had connected before. She'd already hit him in public; what made him think that now they were alone she wouldn't do it again?

Of course, he was probably still just goading her own and she was playing into his hands. That was another irritating thought, but she shoved it aside. It didn't matter because hitting him had felt exhilarating, manipulating or not.

Cade didn't bother answering Angelina. He was too busy watching her, the way her chest rose and fell, the anger and heat in her eyes. He watched her tense, saw muscles flex, and he knew what was coming - had been hoping for it.

But this time, he didn't let the blow land. Letting his training kick in, Cade brought up an arm to deflect the punch and, instead of dodging away like one might expect, he moved forward into Angelina's space. She wouldn't have the opportunity to punch again with any kind of strength with him standing so close. Close enough to catch the scent of apples coming off her hair.

Angelina saw that Cade was still watching her with that same dark intensity as she let her fist fly again. But this time, this time he deflected it so smoothly, she didn't quite follow the movement. Then suddenly he was closer to her, too close for her to get any sort of vantage point. He was driving her crazy and it wasn't just because she was annoyed.

She was turned on. It wasn't just anger in her eyes as she looked up at him. She didn't know what game he was playing at but she was game for it. She tilted her head. Her eyes wandered over his features for a moment, her lips slightly parted, almost invitingly. And then without so much as a change in expressed she raised up and thrust her head forward doing her absolute best to headbutt him.
