Who: Percy Weasley & Lavender Brown
What: Talking about dreams and acquaintances
Where: Percy's office, Ministry of Magic
when: November 7, 9:45 AM

Percy stood at the window to his office... well, not a real window, but a painting of the streets of London that approximated what the view would be from above-ground. The painting changed with the weather, and occasionally he would see Fred's face among those in the crowd. Percy knew his brother visited this painting on purpose just to annoy him, or remind him, or... at times he didn't know, but he both looked forward to, and dreaded, the sightings.

And speaking of things he both looked forward to and dreaded...

The clock was ready to strike 9:45, and his appointment would be here. He had nearly written the girl back, denying any and all knowledge of dreams, but this wasn't about him, it was about Penny. He had accrued regrets over the years, and his treatment of her and the way they had ended had been one of his biggest. He had tried to make up for it once, risking his very life to warn her when her name had appeared on a list five years ago, but even that had been in vain, as she had still been caught and taken to Azkaban.

To this day, he wondered if it had been his note of warning that had led them to her, adding yet more guilt to an already guilt-ridden conscience.

Fred waved at him before disappearing into the crowd, and Percy heaved a sigh. The quicker his guest arrived, the quicker he could get this over with, and hopefully repay a debt long past due.

Although really just starting for most people, Lavender already felt like she had quite the morning. From nightmares to confessions and yes even breading Challah bread, mentally she was ready for a nap. However, Lavender Brown had always been oddly proud in the fact that she could be worse than she looked. It was an art form of sorts and really a necessary mechanism for dealing with the world - Percy Weasley included.

Tempted as she had been to cancel or ask to reschedule the meeting she decided against it. From what Penelope said about Percy, she knew she might not have this opportunity again. Going into the meeting, Lavender knew it wouldn't be the best, she just needed to stay on task, press for the answers she needed and not get distracted.

After the ordeal of checking in at the Ministry entrance, she was directed toward Percy Weasley's office. Lavender wasn't sure what she should expect, and was hardly prepared for anything, but she was here now. There was no turning back.

Knocking at the door to grab his attention, she spoke. "Hello, my name is Lavender and I believe I'm your quarter to nine appointment."

Percy turned away from his 'window' and nodded to his new arrival. His eyes took in her measure and found her presentable, while a part of his mind remembered hearing about her relationship with Ron and wondered what she had seen in his brother. He noticed the scarring on her face, yet it did not phase him - Bill had something similar.

"Have a seat, Miss Brown," he instructed as he moved toward his seat, his dark brown robes swaying as he slid into place. He leaned back, his eyes turned on her expectantly as his hands settled into his lap.

"Now, I believe you have business with me regarding Miss Clearwater."

She muttered a thank you as she took her seat. Once settled, Lavender reached into her bag to retrieve her secondary notebook. The one with all of the valuable original information was likely still on her living room floor from after she threw it at Michael. But she wasn't going to think about that right now. Dealing with Percy Weasley would be enough of a challenge for focus on.

"Yes, as you're aware a number of people have been plagued with these nightmares that aren't quite nightmares and I've assembled a database of sorts. While reviewing these things, I noticed that Pene- Miss Clearwater's stood out along with an anonymous one, describing the same event." She took a moment to flip to her copy of Penelope's submission and slide it across his desk for him to read if he would like. It seemed only fair, Penelope had read what they believed to be his nightmare.

"After talking with her, she thought that maybe that anonymous person was you and I thought that maybe there might be a reason why two people might share a not-nightmare."

Percy took the paper and read the entry. With every word, it felt as if a fist were tightening around his heart. Penelope had wanted nothing to do with him for the longest time, and he hand't known much about what had happened to her in Azkaban, aside from the occasional taunt launched at him by Rookwood and others. It genuinely upset him that she still suffered greatly from her experience, and he was so absorbed in his reading that he didn't realize his feelings were on full display upon his face.

And then came the description of Penelope's dream, and an ice cold shiver went up his spine. It did indeed match with his, right down to the order of fingers cut, and the pleading, and the feeling that the other person was so very dear...

He didn't know what to say. Unlike so many others, he had been dismissing his nightmares as nothing but disturbing dreams that had provided a break in the weekly nightmares of his brother's death. He hadn't been wanting to think anything of them, had deemed them inconsequential.

Could he have been wrong? As his family would definitely remind him, it wouldn't be the first time. Was that not why he had entered his own dream description, even if it was anonymous?

"Yes, it was me," he finally acknowledged, trying to pull himself back together. "I can't explain why, however, we might have had the same dream. We haven't spoken for several years."

Lavender watched him as he read the entry. She felt like she was witnessing something immensely personal or maybe even private. This was not what she was expecting from Percy Weasley. Although her expectations had been set by memories of the pompous young man with a badge at school, the little bits Penelope had shared with her, and in part his brother.

When he finally confirmed that it was him, she wasn't that surprised. The real point of coming here was to figure out why they shared the dream. "Even if you haven't spoken in a number of years, would you say that you and...Miss Clearwater had a strong or close relationship?" Lavender was trying to be careful with her wording, but that likely wasn't going to last long. "Something that might have even impacted your life significantly?"

As she asked her questions, Percy found he couldn't look her in the eye, instead focusing on a point on the wall behind her.

"I am presuming that your questions are directly related to your attempts to figure out whatever has happened to Miss Clearwater. I warn you, if this is some attempt at a cruel joke on myself or her or anyone else, that I am a man not to be trifled with."

He took in a deep breath and let it out, then spoke again without allowing her an answer.

"She and I were very close once. In some ways, she knew me better than my family. It did not end well." His arms shifted until they were crossed across his chest, almost as if they were protecting him from something hurtful. "I don't know what else you might need to know."

Lavender totally gave him an 'are you stupid?' at the notion that this might be a joke. Even then it was expected, she was Lavender Brown usually on about feelings and divination. But she was actually taking this seriously because it impacted her life. She was having nightmares too, she was marked and Bianca had been in her home. She took a breath letting that train of thought go.

Today she wasn't focusing on the women with red hair, today she was focusing on the anomaly. It was better that way. "I wonder if you might have some sort unnoticed connection now. I mean you did share this pseudo-nightmare and that would indicate that you're entwined somehow, connected." Or at least she would like to think so. And it sounded good when she said it.

"If you took a moment to think about her and what you had, that knowing of each other well, do you feel anything." The emphasis on the word feel was in the hopes tat it would come across that she wasn't talking emotions, but rather any sort of connection or kinship.

Percy couldn't sit still any longer. Not that he was one to fidget, but the subject at hand was a rather uncomfortable one, and he couldn't simply sit there and have old feelings dredged up without having to move He unfolded himself from his chair and folded his hands at the small of his back, and turned to the 'window'. Thankfully, Fred had not returned into the picture.

It was also easier to speak his mind when not facing his audience and wondering whether she thought him to be an emotional wreck.

"She is the only woman I have ever loved, in a romantic sense," he admitted softly. "Yet when I think of her, no, there is no connection of any kind, magical or otherwise. All I feel is sadness, and regret."

Lavender twisted her face in contemplation as he turned away from her. The not having an audience thing could go both ways, it might be easier for him, but it was also a little bit easier for her too. And without him watching she didn't feel like should refrain from taking further notes about this because there had to be something.

"But you still feel something for her, toward her, feel as in actual feelings? Emotions rather, strong ones?" It wasn't really a question because she didn't really know what sort of thing she should be asking. It all all sort of murky. And without more connected not-dreams then couldn't really figure out why only certain people were affected. And what made this relationship so important to tie these two people together?

"That is none of your-" Percy reacted by instinct, but quickly stopped himself. This was for Penelope, to help her and whatever this was. It was true, if there was some sort of connection...

He desperately hoped there wasn't, for if there was, it was likely his fault, and once again, he'd have been the cause of her pain.

"If you are asking whether I am still in love with her, the answer is no. Yet she was my first love, and there will always be... affection for her in my eyes."

He closed his eyes, feeling as if his robes were nothing but whisps of fabric, doing nothing to hide his nakedness from his visitor.

"Have you any further questions?"

Even if he hadn't followed up the immediate answer, Lavender would have guessed as much. Love was a strong thing and Lavender wasn't sure it ever fully went away, it just faded sometimes or was replaced with other types of love. For the moment it was an interesting possibility to contemplate - especially because he had brought it up.

"I ah...guess that it all for now, but should there anything else that comes up, would it be okay for me to contact you?" She needed time to process and also start digging elsewhere because it was clear that Percy was not the person to start prodding at. Penelope was more likely to be open to that sort of thing of the pair of them. Although really what she needed was another set.

"You may contact me," Percy replied almost reluctantly. He honestly did want to know more, especially if it helped Penelope, however, he also had no wish to revisit his past any further.

He turned away from the painting, hoping to catch her before she left.

"Miss Brown, could I ask a small favour?"

She nodded, picking up her notebook to tuck it back away in her bag. Lavender was ready to go back home, maybe even try to sleep for a few hours and give that food thing another go. Of course, Michael might still be there. Try as she might, she really couldn't avoid the next round of that for too much longer. (Although really she just wanted like a day or two.)

Lavender paused at the question, it taking her by surprise. She really didn't think that there was anything she could give Percy, but she wouldn't deny him the opportunity to ask. "Sure, even if it's not that small that would probably be okay too."

"It's nothing, really," he said as he looked down upon his desk, absently tracing the blotter with his index finger.

"I had simply hoped that, should you see Miss Clearwater again, that... you would tell her I said hello."

It was a rather odd request, but certainly something she could handle. Especially when she had plans to speak with Penelope again. "I will do that." Lavender stood, throwing her bag over her should. For a moment she was proud that she had managed to not blurt it out, but that silence wouldn't last. "Although, maybe you should say that yourself sometime too, because girls kind of like that sort of thing."

Or at least normal ones did, except even the messed up ones didn't really have anything against hello. Lavender shook her head, she didn't need to be bothering him anymore this morning. "But thank you for your time this morning. I appreciate it." And with that she was off to face the rest of the day head of her.
