Who: Agatha Bole & Ron Weasley
What: Letting off some steam in the DMLE Gym
Where: Ministry of Magic, DMLE Gym
When: November 7, 3 PM

Aggie entered the gym with a familiar lump of something over her shoulder in a classic 'fireman's carry'. Some Aurors grinned as they saw her pass, others rolled their eyes. Hey, it wasn't her fault she enjoyed something more entertaining than what the others did for a workout.

She got to her usual spot, which was thankfully free, and took out her wand to spell a chain from the ceiling. She slung the bundle off her shoulder and attached it to the chain. There, it hadn't taken long, and now her favourite sparring dummy was set up and ready to go.

She took off her robes, revealing her simple trousers and sleeve-less shirt underneath. Later she would sparr with the robes on, bur for now she needed to warm up. She did a little stretching, breathing in and out deeply with the motions, casually looking at herself in the mirror to admire her form. She couldn't help but smile. Some would bemoan the gaining of a couple dozen pounds since leaving school, but she didn't mind - it only made her look more feminine, in her opinion, and made others underestimate her.

A very dangerous thing indeed.

Finally, she was ready. She started with a roundhouse kick to the dummy's side, and when her foot hit, a magical shower of fake blood spurted out from the contact point.

"Oh right. Okay, thanks," he said, not expecting her to give up the dummy for him to spar with right then. He approached the dummy as she walked away, admiring the oddness of it, but also glad that it still looked much like a dummy.

He'd already done some jogging and stretches before coming in so he was warmed up, now he just needed to decide how to approach the thing—or rather, how he planned to approach Ernie tomorrow at the DA meeting. There would be plenty of people there so he would have to get to him as quickly as he could if he had any hope of actually landing any punches before someone intervened.

Ron started with some stomach jabs, bringing his fists in an uppercut motion into the dummy's diaphragm one, two, three times before it began to cough and sputter at him. He backed away, dancing back and forth on his feet, then moved back in range and knocked the dummy square in the jaw, jabbed it three times in the chest, then came back with the heel of his right palm and jammed it upward into the dummy's nose. A spray fake blood erupted from it instantly, splattering in his face.

Despite the fact that it was rather violent for a training dummy, when Ron backed away, panting, he felt vindicated.

Aggie nodded approvingly as he attacked the dummy with vigor. It appeared to be doing him well, which was the very reason she did it. Hitting a dummy that didn't react wasn't much fun to her.

"Here, try this one," she said as she stepped over to his side. "To get the most power into a jab, you need to do it with a twist. Start it out down here." She lowered her fisted right hand to her waist, placing it fist- up. In slow-motion, she moved her fist forward in a straight line, and just before it hit the dummy, twisted her fist downward. "That way, you're not using up all your energy in throwing the punch. The most power out of the slightest effort. In a wand-less fight, you need to preserve your energy as much as possible."

Ron was a bit surprised when she approached him and began showing him the punch, but he watched nonetheless and when she was done showing him the punch in slow motion he nodded, said, "Right," and imitated her in slow motion a few times to make sure that he had it right. It did feel easier this way, even in slow motion, and he knew that if he threw a few punches this way he probably wouldn't tire out as fast as he would have normally.

He asked her to stand back so he could try it out for real. He took a few deep breaths, then held his fist down by his side, moved forward toward the dummy's stomach and then twisted his fist before it made contact. He did the same with his other arm, hitting the dummy in the stomach once more before switching to his right hand and hitting the dummy in the face once, groans and blood greeting him.

Ron backed up then and gave her a small smile. "Thanks."

"It was nothing," she said with a clap to his shoulder. "I'm just practicing for the day I'm too old and saggy to be out in the field, and have to train newbies instead. Of course, that will be after I've become head of the department."

Aggie hadn't been placed in Slytherin for nothing, as her ambition attested.

"So, you feel better now after beating up my friend? It usually helps leech the tension away."

Ron actually laughed at that, which was probably one of the first times he'd laughed in a while. In fact, this was probably the best he'd felt since he'd heard about Harry, which was probably sad considering that it took beating something up to make him feel better. Not to mention he was doing it for all the wrong reasons, but no one need know that.

Old and saggy reminded him of Mad-Eye Moody for some reason and he felt a bit sad at the thought. Despite his being partially a raving lunatic, he'd been a brilliant Auror and had done a lot to keep the lot of them safe during their fifth and sixth years. Ron looked up to him a bit, not including the mad part. "Sounds like you've got it all mapped out then." Ron hadn't really thought about where he wanted to go in the department once he'd got in. All he ever had planned on was actually getting in and now he was there.

"Yeah, I do actually. I don't usually do that, but..."

"I've always believed you have to look ahead to where you want to be, and then work towards it - all the while having half a dozen back-up plans on the side. That's the reason why I train without my wand more than the average Auror. I refuse to be caught out just because I've lost my wand."

She grabbed a clean towel from a nearby shelf and tossed it over to the Weasley bloke.

"...but you should do it more. It's good for you, gets the blood pumping and all that shite. Kinda like sex... another reason why I prefer a partner who reacts." She winked and took another swig from her water flask.

Ron nodded. He had been in plenty of situations in the past where he'd lost his wand where hand-to-hand would have come in handy. Of course all those situations were with Harry, but he didn't really need to think about that just then. "Makes sense. Wands aren't the only way we should know how to fight and they are easy to take away or lose in an altercation." Ron's brain was always thought in terms of planning and tactics, so he could understand having contingency plans.

Ron caught the towel and used it to mop up his face and neck. He couldn't hide his face when she mentioned sex, his eyes going wide. "Er, right," he murmured, feeling his face go red. This wasn't something he was comfortable talking about with pretty much anyone, least of all someone he barely knew. "I probably should. Interesting dummy," he gestured toward it, trying to change the subject as quickly as humanly possible.

Her eyes lit up gleefully at his obvious embarassment. He couldn't be that innocent, could he? He was an Auror, for Merlin's sake. She said nothing further about it at the moment, but like everything, registered it for future use.

"Thank you, I made him myself." She grabbed her robes and pulled them on over her exercise clothes. "I hate exercise, so I had to find a way to make it fun."

She went back over to the dummy and gave a few kicks, this time compensating for the extra material moving with her. She gave a few punches, then finished her round off with a flying side kick that sent the dummy swinging wildly, exclaiming at how he was going to be sick with every motion.

Ron may have been an Auror and he may have been through some ordeals in his time, but sex was not something he was experienced with nor was it something he discussed. Seeing dead bodies or gore was one thing but sex was quite another.

Ron wasn't sure he would consider it fun, not before, but today well, it had been quite fun. Or if not that, at least relieving for some of the tension he'd been holding. Had he known he'd have come here sooner. "I suppose it's good to make it work for you."

Ron watched her as she moved against the dummy again. She had obviously been at this quite a while from the looks of it. She was rather good and he wouldn't be surprised if she went far in the department like she said. When she had stopped for a moment he gave her a nod. "Thanks for the help, Agatha. I think I'll go train on my own for a while. But thanks for letting me try your dummy."

"Any time, Weasley," she said, watching him as he went to work on his own training.

As she did so, she thought on how she'd always thought of the Aurors as a family. She didn't have any family left, so it was all she had. She'd heard of the Weasleys, though, and that was more than enough family for anyone.

She smirked. Perhaps she should pay a visit to Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, and see if she could pick up a little something to make this Weasley feel 'at home'.
