Characters: Zacharias Smith & Ginny Weasley
Setting: 2300, 5 November at a pub
Rating: R
Summary: Zacharias Smith needs a bit of a release. Ginny Weasley happens to be the person he's going to get it from.

He had no clue what time it was or even any idea of where he was or how he ended up here. (Although, boy, was he going to owe his sister tomorrow, but that was still hours away.) Well, that wasn't true. At least not exactly. It all came down to the inherent problem that his puny flat in Brixon lacked the quality and more importantly quantity of liquor that Peebles had. His father might have been an absolute bastard, but the man knew a good whiskey. Then again Isaiah Smith could afford that sort of thing. Zacharias Smith was stuck to polishing off the bottom shelf whiskey he had in his flat and that wasn't going to last long.

Not to mention, there was just something inherently pathetic about drinking alone in his flat versus drinking with Lefty in his father's study.

So, the only solution had been to change into something a bit more appropriate and see what the pub scene had to offer tonight. The truth was that Zacharias Smith was lost and the drinking didn't really help it any, it just made the problems worse. He still didn't have a clue what he should be feeling and numb wasn't working for him and he doubted it would last through the next two days. Dealing with his more immediate family had been tiring enough without having to worry about how he should be acting with a bigger audience.

What he needed was to feel something else. Like what lunch with Marietta had brought, but bigger and more vibrant. Zacharias Smith took a pull from his bottle, scanning the crowd. Someone like Ginny Weasley, all the way across the way probably a few deep if he was gaging it right. Merlin, his flat was still in a state from their last little 'chat' and this time virgin boy didn't seem to be around anywhere. All he knew was that he the second he spotted her that he was set on this course now and there was no turning back.

She miraculously withheld the sudden urge to hurl her drink in his face and then deck him. Not in a crowded pub. Surely that public an antic would get back to all the wrong people (especially mum). So she gripped her pint tightly and with barely controlled anger, took a long, hopefully calming sip of her drink.

"Are you looking for me to rearrange your face again?" Okay, so the drink hadn't really done much on the calming front. "Because your nose," she indicated with one finger, "is still looking kind of busted. Not quite as poncy as it used to be."

He shook his head, staying outwardly calm when he could already feel his pulse racing. This was exactly what he needed - to poke at something until he felt something better. "And you accuse me of being all talk." Zacharias smiled, feeling rather pleased with himself at the moment and why not? (It was surely better than being sad.) "You're just a little girl who acts all tough."

"I mean, are you sure you're allowed to be out this late? Won't mummy be worried for you?" With one last long pull, Zacharias finished his beer setting it back on the counter with a loud clunk. "Or maybe your that type of girl who is out late at pubs, on the pull. Classy."

She rolled her eyes at that. "Merlin, Smith, a five year old could do better. And you probably stayed up all night thinking of that little zinger."

A nice mental image crossed her mind right then: she could punch him in his git face, tackle him to the ground and then slap the stupid right out of him. It would be incredibly satisfying and likely highly therapeutic.

"Anyway, you're the little girl who got your nose broken and your flat trashed." She smirked into her drink. "My point stands. You couldn't hex your own arse without a map and detailed instructions."

"At least I come up with new material." Zacharias got off his bar stool and moved down the bar, so he didn't have to speak loudly over the empty seats. And okay, maybe he liked the proximity. "I think you've been saying that one since Hogwarts."

Now close enough to touch her, he could hear her voice from the morning. Her body on top of him, blood on his face asking him if that was how he wanted it. It had been beautiful for a moment and then Ernie Macmillan walked in. "Come on, you can do better than that."

He was weirdly close suddenly, close enough to warrant a beer in the face if it came to that. It hadn't, not yet, but if he kept on pushing her, he'd end up with a beer followed by a fist in the face.

The image was not unpleasant.

"No need to improve on the truth. The world knows you're a wanker." She took another pull on her drink, though at this rate, she'd run out before she had a chance to throw it at him.

"The world knows I'm a Smith," he said like it meant something different than what she said. If only she knew the truth when it was the exact same thing. That was their legacy, certainly couldn't be anything else. Like father, like son. He couldn't do a thing to prevent it. He would always be his father's child, but tonight.

Well, tonight he was a man in a bar who wanted to fight or fuck. Better yet, he had found the one woman who might just him both. And if that didn't turn him on.

"And what are you? The girl who waited for the boy who died anyway."

The beer ended up in his face, and two seconds later, her fist connected solidly with his nose.

She hopped off her bar stool, enjoyed the way he staggered back, even viciously enjoyed the sight of his blood. He deserved it. He had come looking for it. Who was she to deny him such a simple request?

"You seem desperate for me to kick your arse, Smith." No wands though. Not in a Muggle pub. "How kind of me to help you out."

With one punch his world fell into focus. It was good. Really good. Even as she came at him, he kicked the bar stool at her. It gave him the space to reach down the bar and grab the closet glass he could find and just tossing back. Zacharias set it back down and then came at her with his fists. "Don't play you don't like it too."

Some people didn't hit girls. Zacharias Smith those people were pathetic because some girls deserved. Or even better some girls liked it. Ginny might have thought he couldn't hex himself out of a paper bag, but he could throw a punch. He had been in enough scuffles to know how to punch and where to aim for the most hurt. But first, she deserved a broken nose just like the one she gave him a few days ago.

Within the bar, they wouldn't get far. The moment his fist swung, patrons stumbling back out of their way, the bartender and the guy at the door were making their way over to break them up. Somewhere over the noise, there was a man shouting at them to break it up, take it somewhere else.

He swung his fist at her, and while she didn't have a chance to outright deflect it, she turned her face to the side and let the hit glance off her cheek. Before she could hit back or do much of anything, the bartender and the bouncer grabbed them and began hauling them toward the back door.

"This what you wanted, Smith?" she shouted over the din. "Is that what you came looking for?"

The bouncer tossed her in an alley. She didn't pause to listen to what he shouted at her, instead turning and pushing Smith into the wall. With any luck, he'd slam his head against the bricks.

"This what you wanted out of evening? The hell's wrong with you?"

Once out in the back alley it took him a moment to readjust to the new setting. The air was a bit cooler out here, no crowd watching on. It was just him, Ginny and the poor bloke smoking by the door.

"So you want to play a game of you show me yours, I'll show you mine?" Because he could ask that same question - what the hell was wrong with her? Zacharias wiped at his face, straightening himself up a little before the next round started. "Why don't you go first."
