Who: Hermione and Rosalind Bungs
What: Trying to make some sense of last night
When: mid-morning October 30, 2003
Where: Diagon Alley branch library

Hermione had finally gotten in touch with her parents. They had experienced a normal day and assured her that if they caught anything out of the normal they would contact her immediately. It made her feel a little better to know that for now they were alright. That didn't mean things would stay copacetic in their corner of the world.

After conversing with Harry Hermione sat down and jotted down notes from her own memory before perusing the journals. Several others had experienced terrors last evening. Some were awoken from their sleep, while others it seemed had seen things while still completely conscious. Since the majority seemed to have been incidents that stirred the individuals out of their bed in such a way that prevented a return to slumber Hermione decided to focus her attention on the nightmares.

Now she sat at a table in the library. The book Nightmares,Bad Dreams, or Recurring Dreams was sprawled out before her while she scribbled notes and compared what she'd seen in the journals to the information in what was likely to be the first of many texts she would read in the next few hours.

Hermione knew what it was like to be trapped. Even though Harry, Ron and she were able to move around in the year leading up to the war they had still been trapped. Trapped at Grimmauld, trapped within the confines of the protection spells around the tent, trapped at Shell Cottage, just trapped.

She fought the urge to roll her eyes when the woman mentioned her line of work. Hermione didn't lay stock in matchmaking. Of course, she hadn't spoken to Ron in forever. They were... she didn't know what they were. She didn't even know what they were anymore. Not that she had time right now to worry about a relationship. Her work kept her quite busy. "That's nice," she forced herself to be polite on the issue.

Ros couldn't help but notice the tone of voice in Hermione's answer. It was that sort of forced politeness that she heard all too often from those doubting those capable of some sort of far-seeing ability. Not that Ros had much of that, but she did what she could, and respected those who did better.

"I know Trelawney's done a job on the reputation of Divinations, but you can't be that ignorant of it, if only in how it reveals the mind of the speaker. You may ask someone a question, but the question speaks more about you than any answer they may give."

She stood up from the seat and held her purse before her. "You know, I don't think I need the books any longer. I've just answered my own question. The dreams don't matter - it's my reaction to them that does. You either control it, or let it control you."

Obviously the woman didn't have as much of a clue as she thought she did. Hermione's forced politeness had nothing to do with Divination and everything to do with her occupation. While she didn't care to practice the subject, she knew there were times when Divination could be valid.

Were she not already miffed that her research had been interrupted, Hermione might have told the woman just how wrong she was. Instead, she simply nodded then returned to her work.
