What do you see?
Characters: Bianca and Lavender
Setting: At Lavender's flat, in the evening. Maybe around 5pm or so on November 4th
Summary: The girls get together to exercise their divining skills.
Rating: Work safe

Bianca found herself going through the motions for the rest of the afternoon. Her mind was already several hours in the future, when she'd be meeting up with Lavender to do some Divination. the thought of gettinga better handle on her vision, and maybe being able to discuss it with someone who put stock in predicting the future sat well with her, and she was actually excited to go.

She donned a grey coat over her green sweater dress and headed out to the address Lavender had specificed. It was easier to Floo since she had the address, so she arrived right on time, sneezing as she bushed excess powder from her nose. Only when she stepped out of the fireplace did she manage to get a look around and look for Lavender.

Lavender looked up from the plate she was picking at in the kitchen when she heard someone come through the floo. "Bianca," she called out, wanting to make sure it was the other woman. "I'm over here, in the kitchen."

Between the fireplace and the kitchen her flat was more akin to a greenhouse than actual living space, filled with a variety of plants that were an extension of her rooftop garden. Coupled with all of the natural light that normally came through the wall of bay windows, her flat had a very open feeling to it that spoke to her. Well, that and the kitchen with really nice equipment.

"Sorry, I was just finishing dinner." Not that she had been particularly hungry, but even picking at the rare steak she cooked soothed her a little and if they were going to do a reading she needed to be as close to normal as possible. "But please, take off your coat, and if you're daring you're welcome to taste any of the strange and new things I've attempted to bake this afternoon, or I can easily get you something more normal or expected."

Bianca sneezed again and headed towards the sound of Lavender's voice. She took her time though, looking at the apartment as she went. The greenery was gorgeous, and spoke to the side of her that so many Hufflepuffs seemed to share: a love of Herbology. she paused to inhale the scent of some of the plants before shaking herself out of it and hurrying along.

"Your apartment is beautiful," Bianca commented as she stepped inside the kitchen. She removed her coat, resting it on the back of a chair and smiled. "I wouldn't mind a cup of tea?" she hesitated, then added, "And no, I wouldn't mind trying a little something you've made."

"Thank you, I mean I don't think I'd be able to live in the city otherwise. There is just something soothing about having all these plants around." Even if it was sometimes a bit much to maintain, she wouldn't want it any other way. It reminded her of home and that was a place where she felt safe.

Lavender reached over to turn on the kettle. "My selection of tea is right there." She motioned toward the tea canisters on the side of the island. There was a wide variety of options, all loose leaf. "And that is a chocolate yam marble cake, which is better than it sounds."

She took one more mouthful of the food in front of her before turning around to put the plate in the sink. "So, how are you?"

Bianca nodded. "I know just what you mean. I do wish my flat was large enough to have room for more plants, but I must make do." Maybe one day she'd have a nice townhouse, or someplace out in the country, but for now she was living off her own means, and that meant meager.

Bianca headed over to the teas and went through them, settling happily on a pleasant and stimulating mint tea. She found it often helped her mental clarity. "Thank you, and it sounds interesting to me. I'd love a piece." she shyly helped herself and answered, "I've been as well as could be expected. Sort of," she added. She hesitated and then looked down at her cake. "I had a vision yesterday."

Lavender pulled two tea cups down and placed them on the island between them. The hot water would be ready in a few minutes, sure magic could have helped it along, but she wasn't in any sort of rush. "You had a vision?" She leaned back on the counter, considering what Bianca just said.

Although tempted, she hadn't done any sort of reading since before the Halloween gala. She hadn't even made tea on the off chance she accidentally saw something in the bottom of her cup. Not that she hadn't been thinking about the reading, her nightmares and then all of the other nightmares that were coming into her database. But now this? "What sort of vision exactly?"

Bianca sat down and let her breath out in a whoosh. "Well, I was just in the kitchen, so I was wide-awake," she said unnecessarily. "Anyway, I'd just gone for the bread when I suddenly saw this woman. She had the long deep, blood-red hair. She was beautiful but she looked scary, cruel." Bianca went a little red as she thought about what the woman did next, how she'd kissed her. But it wasn't at all a pleasant kiss. It scared her almost as much as the woman herself had.

"I don't know who she was, but I got the most awful feeling from her, like she was going to do something absolutely awful." Bianca shook her head. "I dreamed about her once before, that first night when I had a nightmare. I thought it was just bad dream until I saw her in the vision." Distressed, Bianca went for the cake, and was instantly pleased at at the taste. "This is delicious, Lavender!"

"Bright red hair?" She repeated slowly. Maybe she was seeing things when there wasn't anything to be seen, but a few of the dreams in the database did mention a woman with red hair. And even hearing Bianca talk about it just brought a bad feeling to her. Lavender didn't even hear the comment about the cake, she was already off to find her notebook.

"Have you been having nightmares the other nights? Or just the first one?" It was a bit of an outlier, but it did support her working theory that something bigger was happening. "Because...well, what if like other people have been seeing the same woman, haunting them?"

Bianca shook her head. "No, not bright like fire. Dark red. Like blood. It if were wt it would have looked like a waterfall of blood." She shuddered again, staring down at the cake now. "I haven't been having any other nightmares, no."

She looked up at the last question. "I never...I didn't think to ask if anyone else had seen her. You're only the second person I've told about the visions at all. You...you think i should ask?" Then she remembered something. "Did anyone mention her in that database you've got?"

A moment later, Lavender found her notebook piled under yesterday's Prophet and a Divination textbook she had been referencing. Maybe she should have been keeping the information safer, but she had pretty decent wards around her flat and sometimes it was best to just hide things in plain sight. It made sense in a sort of round about logic.

"A few of them mention a woman, sometimes with red hair, but I mean, with mine, I don't remember seeing who it was but there was some sort of woman there laughing. What if that's how it all connected?" She was already considering following up with the names she did have and even willingly trying to force herself to relive the nightmare. "But why would anyone give other people bad dreams and with like no real pattern?"

Bianca fiddled with her fingers before forcing herself to stop and to return to the cake. Lavender's train of thought was making her have gooseflesh creep up her arms. It was scary enough that these nightmares and murders were happening. It was scarier still that the nightmares might have been connected, especially to her vision.

"Maybe there is a pattern, but we don't see it," Bianca said softly. Then she jumped, scattering crumbs, when the kettle suddenly started whistling. She'd nearly forgotten about the water boiling for tea.

And Lavender jumped right along with her and the kettle, but quickly regained herself. "Can you get that for me?" Right now she had a bigger mission and that was to remember which bag she had thrown her cards into. Normally she was much better at keeping track of them, but nothing about the past couple of days had been normal. However, this was exactly the sort of thing where some divination might come in handy.

"And then why don't you join me over here?" Once she found her cards, she set to clearing the coffee table so they would have space. She didn't like any of this, but she was having nightmares, so it meant that she was a part of it. "There has to be some sort of pattern, especially with you having a vision but not repeated pattern - something that's connecting it all, you know?"

Bianca was only too glad to get the tea and focus on something else if only for a moment. She poured them both some tea and carried the cups over to the table. She wasn't nearly as focused on the tea as she'd have liked and so didn't even think to ask if Lavender wanted cream of sugar. Bianca wanted hers plain; she found the mint more palatable when it wasn't masked by anything else.

She sat down carefully after bringing out her own cards, but she set them down letting, Lavender take the lead. "It might me something minor, something connecting the people who are dreaming. Maybe something they have in common even if it's something really minor. That's the hard part, I think. Trying to figure out what random little thing might be the connecting factor." She turned her teacup round and round, her eyes on Lavender's cards.

She muttered a thanks when Bianca brought over the tea, she didn't really have much inclination to drink any, but it was the act that counted. And at the very least it provided another vehicle for a reading if they wanted to do that as well.

Lavender nodded listening to the other woman explain. It was all in the little details, probably requiring far more attention than she really had, especially when it was so much easier to just leap to more obvious and dramatic conclusions. Lavender pulled out her deck and started shuffling the cards, her mind not fully focusing on the task, which just wasn't going to do at all.

"Maybe you should," she stopped, offering her cards over to Bianca, "just because I'm so not even sort of centered to get anything close to a true reading." She really didn't need or even want to go into the details, but that was the fact. "And you might even be a better focus." Especially if she was having actual visions, not that she actually doubted more that she was a bit jealous that she all she had was nightmares.

Bianca blinked in surprise when Lavender offered her cards. "Oh, you think I should- oh. Well all right then." She blushed slightly at the thought of reading for or in front of someone she didn't know very well.

"Actually would you mind terribly if I used my own cards? I've a bit of a connection to them." That and it felt a bit strange to handle someone else's. She wasn't certain if Lavender felt the same connection to hers as Bianca did to her own, but if so, she wasn't sure how that might feel. All she knew was, no matter how close a friend, she'd feel a bit odd herself if someone else read using her own cards.

She reached into her bag, drawing out a wooden box inlaid with citrine, and removed her cards. She shuffled through them, re-attuning herself before cutting them into three piles and setting them in front of Lavender. "Concentrate on what exactly you'd like to ask, and then please choose the pile you're most drawn to. Don't tell me the question exactly. I know the general idea of what we're looking for and want to see how a partially blind reading will go."

Bianca was often shy and reticent but when she divined, she was in control.

While readings could and often were possible, she didn't find them private. In a way, the cards, the leaves, they were her worship and she had no hesitation in doing in front of other people, even strangers. Lavender shrugged and set her own cards down, not bothered by the fact that Bianca preferred to use her own set. She supposed they could be like a wand in that way.

Lavender was about to object to her picking the pile because she knew she didn't have the sort of focus needed to give a clear meaning. However, if she wanted a blind reading she would give her than and then Lavender was going to get the reading she wanted.

Still, she wasn't going to just ruin this from the start. She would give it a try. Focusing in on the nightmares that weren't and the woman with the red hair she looked over the three piles for a moment. "That one," she said pointing to the card on her left.

Bianca cleared her mind as Lavender picked a deck and she stacked the cards, the pile Lavender was drawn to on top. Silently, she drew the first card, laying out the start of the basic Celtic cross pattern. The first one she drew, representing the present was Temperance, reversed. "This is the present. Temperance represents a search for peace. Reversed could mean that peace had been disturbed, blocked or otherwise made hard to achieve," Well that was bloody obvious, no matter what was being read.

Bianca laid another card, across the first. "Current challenge: Judgment. One journey may be over but another is beginning. The challenge is taking the first step, taking the right steps, or even acknowledging that there's a journey to be made." Once the reading began, Bianca felt both more comfortable and oddly more nervous. She was a bit worried what the reading would yield, but she felt more herself when she was divining.

She looked up at Lavender for a moment as she readied the next card, the distant past card.

Beyond the outcome of the reading, it was interesting to see how someone else lain out a spread and read the cards. Lavender always did them all at once, needing to see the full picture before she came to any sort of conclusions. It was interesting to watch Bianca take it one at a time. Interesting and just a little bit nervous over if she would see those specific cards again.

The three of hearts and the wheel of fortune reversed. They still haunted her and she wasn't sure how this could be worse. Her spread a few days ago said it was bad, that wasn't a surprise.

It was all an inevitable sort of journey full of pain and suffering. She hadn't meant to say that out loud. But it didn't matter, she needed the how, the why, the what, anything about what came next.

The next card was going to lead Bianca into the meat of it, she was certain. The third card, placed above the first, was what the one being read was most concerned about, thinking about. Bianca laid the card down. The three of swords. It was never really a good card, but it didn't surprise her. The three swords sharply piercing a vibrant red heart was a clear image of pain and suffering.

She glanced up at Lavender as she said, "You know this card, don't you? It's a symbol of pain, betrayal, suffering...It can be what's already happened, but could also be taking as a warning for something yet to come." That might become clearer as she continued the reading. She laid the next card, the root of the problem, beneath the first. The priestess reversed. Bianca sucked in a breath. Could this card refer to the red-haired woman in their dreams and visions? The woman on the card was blond, but she represented power, duality. Reversed, the power could be strongly negative.

The room seemed to drop out when she saw the card in the three position. That was how it could be worse than before. Lavender hated that card. She knew people who pulled it from their decks because of what it implied, thought that just keeping it was asking for trouble. She had never felt that way, but she might reconsider it now.

"As a result, in the ten position," she said when she found her voice again. "But in the three..." She shook her head and pressed her eyes closed like that would undo what was done. But it was written, wasn't it? That was what she had there before, this was fate.

"Just get to the ten position. I need...I need to see that."

Bianca suppressed and shiver and silently laid out the rest of the cards. The Ace of Wands appeared in the recent past, what brought about the current situation. It was a symbol of creativity, of energy, desire and power. Someone - Lavender or someone else wanted something - strongly - enough to take the actions that brought them to this point. The next card, a reminder to help deal with or understand the current situation was the four of pentacles, a card or financial gain. It didn't have to mean money exactly, but that which made someone in some way richer.

The sixth card, the difficult-to-change future showed the king of pentacles. Like the fabled King Midas, his touch was as gold. There would be riches, success, gain, power, and it was not going to be easily derailed. Bianca didn't know for sure why that thought gave her chills.

The seventh card - what one fears - was the queen of pentacles, reversed. A woman of power, when she was upright, he was nearly as strong as the empress, but with maternal instincts. Reversed, it could symbolize the loss of that strength, a woman no longer in control of herself. The eight card, that which others would say or suggest, was the two of wands. It signified the power to make dreams reality. Normally it would have been a good card, but based on the nature of dreams lately, Bianca wasn't so sure.

The ninth card, an important person in the future, showed the two of cups, which could mean two people of importance who were very close to one another, but not likely lovers, as they lover's card still lay in the deck. The last card Bianca drew, the strong future, the card that tied the rest of the reading together, was the Wheel of Fortune, reversed. It meant change was likely to happen, almost a certainty. Reversed meant that change was unpredictable, dramatic. In a positive reading, it would not draw much concern - it could symbolise a wedding, a child, a business venture. In a negative reading, it could symbolise monumental loss, uncontrollable negative occurrences, and a sign that one's fears were well-rooted and likely to come to pass.

Bianca was shaking when she laid the last card and she couldn't meet Lavender's eyes.

She didn't recall breathing as the cards were lain out before them. Each one told more of a story she didn't want, sending her stomach into all sorts of knots and twists. Dreams becoming real, the king of pentacles and then the wheel of fortune again. Lavender swallowed hard.

"It's all going to," she started then stopped. She didn't want Bianca to vocalize the reading, especially not if it would only confirm that Lavender constructed in her head. So much worse than the cards just a few days ago. Whatever was happening was getting stronger.

"I think I'm going to be sick," she said hand over her mouth. It was the sort of overly dramatic thing she might say anyway, but this time it was actually warranted. Because now she was remembering the pixies tearing at her flesh, she should see Luna being eviscerated. Someone's teeth being pulled while they were conscious.

Without any further warning, she bolted from her position on the sofa heading right for the closet toilet to make good on her earlier words.

Bianca had been expecting an unpleasant reaction from lavender, but not one quite so severe. She wanted to ask what it was specifically the other woman was so afraid of, so worried about, that the reading - which was bad enough - had affected her so strongly. But before she could ask, Lavender ran from the room.

Bianca was left with tea and remnants of cake, neither of which she wanted any longer. After a moment, Bianca shivered again, fear icing her spine, and she quickly moved to put the cards away. She didn't want to see them staring back at her and she definitely didn't want them still out when Lavender returned.

One thing was for certain: Bianca didn't want another vision, not while she was in this frame of mind. She sincerely hoped that when the next one came, it wouldn't leave her feeling like this reading did. After another moment, she got up and followed Lavender. Outside the door, she called quietly, "Lavender? Are you all right?"

Obviously she wasn't. Bianca frowned. She;d been invited over by someone as interested in two of her favorite pastimes - baking and divination - and the result had been disastrous. It would take her some time to force herself out socially again, that was for sure.

She was really regretting that steak now. Maybe she would just stop eating if this was what happened. Lavender was also regretting not closing the door behind her because there was nothing classy or welcoming about the sight she presented. She didn't immediately look over at Bianca, but rather first went to the sink. Tying her hair back, she took another moment to rinse out her mouth.

"I'm...I don't know," she said look up at her reflection in the mirror. Lavender took a calming breath before looking over at Bianca. "It's just a lot of things all at once and what it the nightmares are going to come true? I mean this is three of swords, wheel of fortune bad. Twice."

Bianca hovered where she was, unsure if she should move further. "I'm sorry," she said quietly. "I had...no idea it would be that bad." She hesitated at Lavender's question. "It may not mean they come true. I don't know what it means. But you're right. It's bad."

But at least they knew it was bad. How could they not know it would be bad? Harry Potter was dead, murdered by some unknown, people were being plagued by terrible nightmares, and there had to be something going on. Problem was, despite knowing something was happening, they had no idea exactly what.

Worse Bianca wasn't sure there was any way to stop it.

"Only you don't believe that - that it won't come true. Not really." She may have only known Bianca for a short while, but she didn't their similarities were only as vague as their interests in baking and divination. "I mean it's too repetitive of a spread for it to meaning nothing."

Then something struck her. What is Bianca had the vision because she was the one behind it all? It wasn't impossible and it wasn't that far of a reach. She had read hair too. Suddenly Lavender felt very trapped, needing to move back out into the more open area of her flat, maybe give that tea a go from the kitchen.

"You scattered the cards?" She asked, wondering why she had turned her back to Bianca, even for a moment.

"I don't know what I believe," she replied honestly. "I haven had those nightmares; I don't know what they're like. I know what happens in my vision and I really hope that doesn't come true either." She hedged backward, wishing she hadn't come, wishing she were still at home, buried in her robe, reading Jasmine King.

"I scattered them. put them away. I should...go." Bianca tore her eyes away from Lavender, unable to look at her. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean for any..." She shook her head and turned, going back to the other room to grab her bag. Unless Lavender called after her, she was heading right for the floor and going home.

Lavender moved to ask her to stay, but the words fell short on her lips. What would she say? More importantly, what would happen if Bianca did stay? It was probably better for to go, to not have anything linger between them. There was already enough. So, she said nothing watching the other woman leave.

Once Bianca was gone she was pulling out her notebook and writing down the reading. Even adding her own theories, or thoughts even, to come back to when she didn't feel so scattered and pulled in so many different directions.

The only thing she was certain of was that she would be watching Bianca Dunstan know, trying to figure her out.
