It was easier for her to handle this situation if he was just a customer making small talk. Anything more than that would have been far too complicated than she could handle. Lavender might not have liked it, but she knew her limits and knew even more so that today was not the day for pushing them. There was soup as well, but Lavender didn't remember what today's offerings were so, she decided to just not bring them up.

She reached down to grab the rag to wipe down the counter - another habitual gesture and really just needing something to do with her hands. "And if I was the lady from the gala, that would mean you owed me a dance, only I didn't wear my dancing shoes today."
