"You didn't need to send us anything at all," Adrian countered. "I'd be remiss if I didn't at least extend a word of thanks." She didn't comment about the gala though, and he briefly wondered why. However, as she seemed to expect more from him than a mere courtesy visit, Adrian decided then to see what he could purchase.
"I'm not much for sweets, but there are some savory treats here too, I expect? I'd like to take a few things, so perhaps you could suggest a small variety. Ham and cheese scones, herb muffins, that sort of thing would likely go over well." His lips curved slightly. "Perhaps then you'll admit you were the young lady I mentioned?"
