Angelina Johnson ([info]fiercebird) wrote in [info]pandorarpg,

Entry tags:!status: complete, ^date: november 02 2003, character: alicia spinnet, character: angelina johnson

Their own brand of therapy
Characters: Angie & Ally
Setting: Sunday November 2nd at around 7 pm,at Angie's home in Wales
Summary: Alicia needs company and to take her mind off her nightmares. Angelina to the rescue! Also, whiskey
Rating: Worksafe I expect.

Angie was doing her best not to show it but she was concerned about Alicia. She didn't like the fact that one of her best friends was having torturous, recurring nightmares, especially in the wake of two recent deaths - no, make that three now - one of which was a good friend. Harry's funeral was the every next day, and Angie thought it was probably best for both herself and Ally to have some company.

The heat had come on in Angie's apartment only the week before and as it frequently was the first few weeks, it was on the warm side. That explained why Angie was already in her pajamas, a simple tank top and boyshorts as she waited for Ally to arrive. Angie had supplies ready: alcohol, chocolate, actual food - ordered in - and an assortment of muggle movies to watch. All she needed now was Alicia.

Alicia had been managing well enough in handling Harry's death until the dream last night, and since then, she'd been shaken. She felt somewhat better by now, but she'd wisely canceled her appointments for the next two days, and her next two shifts at the Honeypot. She had a safety net in a Gringotts account for just such an occasion, but it would only last so long, and she'd have to get back to work. For now, however, she was going to try and relax and forget about everything.

Which was why she had a small bag over her shoulder and was preparing for a night with her best mate.

She knocked quickly on the door and put on a smile, hoping not to worry Angie any more than she had already.

Angie hopped up when she heard the knock at the door, and tugged it open. "Right on time Als," she greeted her, stepping back to let her inside. She saw the smile on her friends face and that made her own bloom. If Alicia could smile, then there was some definitely hope. She hugged Alicia tightly then, "I've got everything set up over by the sofa...except the glasses, lemme go get the glasses."

Angie shut the door and hurried off to the kitchen. "Start looking through the movies, see if anything catches your eye. I'll be right back!"

For a moment when Angie hugged her, everything was all right. She could always rely on her friend to ground her again after everything.

She tossed her bag off to the corner and kicked off her shoes, then sat down next to the tv and pile of movies. One by one, she set boxes aside, discounting one as too sappy, another as too raunchy... until she finally saw something that interested her.

"Mind if I put on Bend it Like Beckham?" she asked loudly so her friend could hear her. "I've seen it once, and there's this one really fit bloke who's totally shag-worthy."

Angie's movie collection was extremely short on the 'sappy' side. She disliked romance movies as they tended to be far too girly for her. A lot of her movies tended towards muggle sports or action, but some romance had managed to sneak in - gifts from friends and family who thought she wasn't ladylike enough. Angie would have tossed them but left them in case any of the givers dropped by and expected to see them on her shelf.

Angie returned with two glasses. "If I ever mind you putting on Bend It Like Beckham, you carry me straight off to Mungo's, yeah? I've already seen it three time since I got it and I'll watch it again anytime."

She grinned knowingly at Alicia. "Let me guess. The coach? Joe? Delicious, isn't he?" Dark hair, blue eyes, tasty mouth, extremely fit...yeah he was definitely shag-worthy. "Ugh speaking of shag-worthy, I've got to get out of this rut I'm in. It's sickening, really."

Alicia welcomely took her drink and sipped right away. Of the many things she loved about Angie, one was that she never scrimped on the alcohol.

"Definitely delicious," she agreed with a grin. "Of course it doesn't hurt that he reminds me a little of Oliver - and don't go reminding me of that crush I used to have on him, I remember it fully well. I was such a masochist back then..."

She playfully rolled her eyes at Angie's mention of a rut. "There are plenty of shaggable guys out there, dear, but you have standards - nothing to be sick about. And we both know that if the itch gets unscratched for too long, you can always give Justin a call."

She stuck her tongue out at Angie then put the movie into the player.

Angie took a swig of her own drink. "You brought it up," Angie teased. "You know if Oliver had ever looked away from the pitch he might've been a good enough catch. Course I couldn't distract you any from him, could I? You were pretty far gone."

Angie snorted at Alicia's mention of Justin. "I'll look a little harder first. It's not just shagging I'm looking for in the long run and Justin's not built for an actual relationship." He wasn't a bad guy really, just not what Angie was looking for. She grinned. "But a good shag's a way to start. I just have to find a nice fit bloke who's able to keep up with me when I drink and swear. Who isn't Seamus," she added belatedly.

The movie began and Angie sat back, glad Ally had picked one of her favorites.

"If Oliver'd ever looked away from the pitch, we'd have been looking for whoever put him under Imperius." She shook her head at the memory. "Luckily I wasn't alone in that. Back then, it was either ogle at Oliver or Cedric. Both fine candidates."

She wagged her finger at Angie. "Now that's something altogether different, and you know it. I'm in there with you - I can't even remember the last time I went on an actual date, instead of just... scratching."

She went and relaxed next to Angie, sipping from her drink again as the movie started.

"I'd honestly settle for someone who's a decent human being, not too arrogant, is good in bed, and enjoys quidditch. You'd think I'm not too picky, but the 'decent human being' part is the hardest to find."

"Amen to that," Angie replied, clinking her glass against Alicia's. "You'd think that's be easier to find yeah? But I either get blokes who are afraid I'm more of a man than they are or can't look any higher than my chest. Or both. I'm definitely tired of quidditch players, I know that. But if I can get a bloke who still enjoys the sport...hell everything you just said."

Angie pursed her lips and gave Ally a considering look. "You realise this means we should go out sometime soon, yeah? A proper hunt, as it were." She pursed her lips. We should get Mels to come along. She's probably as bad off as we are."

"You'd think with one look at your chest there'd be no doubt you're less of a man," Ally teased, clinking back.

She looked back at Angie, met her look, and grinned widely. By now, she had thankfully forgotten - even if temporarily - all of the mess of the last several days, and was feeling normal for once.

"Oh, we totally need to do a hunt. The question is, where if we're out to meet decent blokes, instead of just a shag. Shags we can get, after all." She nodded to herself, thinking. "And Mel's not seeing anyone that I can remember. If she doesn't come, we'll drag her against her will."

The first few scenes of the movie came on, the football action forming a familiar background noise as her mind tried to gnaw on the problem. "Bars and clubs just seem to attract the same old type. This... is a problem."

"Well that's part of the problem!" Angie exclaimed. "Either they don't bother looking past my chest at all or they're threatened by the fact I've got these and can drink more than they can. Or play a better game of quidditch...football...rugby." Angie shrugged and polished off her drink.

"And yeah where's a bit of an issue. If we knew where to meet a good bloke, we'd already have one, wouldn't we?" Angie pursed her lips, wondering if Melinda would have any suggestions. Then again, she wasn't sure when the last time Mels had had a date either. Maybe the three of them together could come up with a proper plan.

"Bugger all, where do people meet decent blokes these days? I swear everyone's who's got someone has known them since school." She refilled her glass, setting the bottle down between them. She looked back at the screen, and sighed. "Can't I just meet him? Likes sports, fit, and he's absolutely gorgeous. Yes I know we've already said that but it bears repeating."

"So, we either need to find you a bloke that's good at quidditch and secure enough in himself to not be bothered by a woman who's better, or a bloke who's pants at it and therefore will not mind you being better."

She looked at the tv screen and unconsciously licked her bottom lip as the Coach came into the scene. "Or we could just grab him, copy him, and each take one." She sighed. "Don't tell Seamus I said this, but I just love Irish accents. Or maybe it's just his, I haven't decided yet."

She blew a raspberry at the thought of being stuck in a relationship with someone since Hogwarts. "If I were still stuck with one of those immature prats, then you'd have good reason to hex me. I couldn't even imagine shagging most of those idiots, let alone being in a relationship with them longer than a Hogsmeade weekend."

She grabbed the bottle Angie had put down and refilled her glass. "Unfortunately, decent blokes are hard enough to find, and don't come with signs above their heads. I'd offer to fix you up, but if I knew one, I'd have gone after him by now. And wouldn't it be a little desperate to put an ad in the Prophet?" Not that she hadn't considered it. "I wonder if there are wizard dating websites yet?"

"I'd prefer the former. I don't think I can actually stay with a bloke who's pants at quidditch. That's the thing, Ally, I need a man not a boy and that's all that's been coming my way lately." Angie shrugged and went for her glass again but she paused at Ally's revelation. "I won't say a word," she teased, "but I like them too. Or a Scottish one. Or Welsh," she added, smiling a bit at that. "Be nice to meet a Welshman I could get on with."

She wrinkled her nose at the thought of the last Welshman she'd spoken to. Hell, she hadn't even realised Warrington was Welsh. At least their conversation had been decent, surprisingly. "I wouldn't want an ad in the Prophet, no," Angie agreed, her lip curling at the thought. "I'd bloody well feel like a failure anyway, needing any sort of service to set me up, because I couldn't find a bloke on my own, you know?"

Ally nodded and sipped from her drink.

"All right, no ads, no bars. Who knows, maybe we'll find someone at tomorrow's pick-up game. Stranger things have happened."

She grinned first at Angie, then the tv. "And if all else fails, we still have Joe for eye-candy... and Justin for itch-scratching."

Angie nodded. "Maybe. Though I expect the players at least will be ones we're pretty familiar with. Maybe there's be some lookers being spectators. Wonder if Lee with commentate. That'll really bring us back home, yeah?" Poor Lee. He'd done his best to get a date with Angie back in school but she hadn't been interested.

Angie rolled her eyes at that and poked Ally with her elbow. "And how often have you dropped in on Justin to have an itch scratched?"

"I would be so brilliant to see Lee again," Ally sighed. "This is so long overdue. It's just such a shame we had to wait for an occasion like this to do it."

She lifted her glass and sent a thought out to Harry before drinking.

"Oi, watch that elbow," she teased. "So I've visited him, and had him over, a good handful of times. The boy's good, and a girl has needs." Especially after a night of dancing naked in front of a room full of ogling, appreciative eyes. Most of the other girls were lucky enough to have a boyfriend or girlfriend to help them expend any excess energy.

"It's just till I find my 'decent human being', though."

"Next time we shouldn't wait. I'd just been talking to Roger about having a pick-up game sometime soon. We should do it every few months, especially during the off season, you know? Maybe not at Hogwarts because that'd be a bit difficult, but I'd expect we could always borrow a pitch that's not being used that day."

Angie actually giggled, though she'd deny that word. "Sounds like you, ah, enjoy his company. Justin's view of life seems so uncomplicated, you know? Sometimes I wish I could look at things that way - just love the one your with sort of thing I guess, but I guess I'm more a girl than I thought. An actual relationship means a lot to me and I'll kill you if you tell my mum that. She's still waiting for me to drop quidditch and get married, give her a grandchild before I get too distracted or sommat."

Before she could run off further with that idea, Angie had another drink and then suddenly said, "Oi, all this drinking not nearly enough snacking. I've got some sweets about her. You know those dark chocolate cakes with the raspberry? I've got a few of those, if you'd like?"

"Worse come worse, we find an empty field and spell the area to repel Muggles or something," Ally agreed.

"There are times when I think it sure would be simply to see things as he does. Fun, uncomplicated... but yeah, I don't know if it's being girly or romantic or something, but, I'd like to fall in love some day. With someone who isn't in love with quidditch, that is," she added with a laugh.

"Yes, that's exactly what we need! Chocolate... Merline, Ang, will you marry me? You know exactly what I like!" she teased.

"Yeah that'd work," Angie mused. They'd have to put up the goals, but that wasn't too big a deal. She'd do it if she meant a match.

"That's it exactly," she replied coming back with the cakes in question, her eyes straying back to the screen as the Indian family argued, slipping in and out of English as they did.

"You sure you want to marry me? I am pretty in love with Quidditch," she teased. She handed Alicia a cake on a plate and pushed the raspberry sauce at her. She always asked for it on the side, because she herself used it so sparingly. She didn't have much of a sweet tooth; she liked her chocolate like her tea, black and not sweet.

Ally's eyes widened greedily and she grabbed up the sauce, pouring it liberally on the piece of cake - leaveing plenty left for Angie, of course.

"As long as you've time to please me, dear, you can play quidditch to your heart's content," she teased back. "Now give me this cake."

She used her fork to take up a piece and brought it to her lips, groaning as she tasted it. "Oh, this is soooooo good. Almost worth giving up sex for."

A pause. "Almost."

Angie had to laugh at Ally's expression. She looked like a child, maybe the 11-year old ickle firstie she'd been (all right, they'd both been) when they met back in Hogwarts first year. Her excitement and enthusiasm over something as simple as cake made Angie impulsively lean over to hug her. It was a relief, seeing her look that, well, carefree, even if it was only for a moment.

Her assessment of the cake was spot on though. Angie hummed around her own piece, the dark chocolate causing little explosions of happy along her taste buds. "Mmm, yeah only almost. If I could have both in one go though, I could die happy."

On screen romantic tension bloomed, but Angie ignored it in favor of her cake.
