Hermione had hugged Ginny out of her own need for comfort. She hadn't planned on making Ginny cry. She had honestly hoped that Ginny would tell her to toughen up and be brave. Instead, Ginny broke and spoke the words that Hermione hadn't allowed herself to even consider speaking. The tears poured uncontrollably out of Hermione's eyes.
"That's what I keep telling myself," she confirmed Ginny's words while still refusing to use them herself. It had been easy to accept the deaths of Fred, Remus, Tonks, and others because the bodies had been there to prove their deaths. This whole word of mouth without any physical proof was something Hermione was having difficulty accepting.
