Who: Hermione and Luna
Where: Hermione's Flat
When: October 28th [Tuesday]
What: Luna needs a dress and Hermione's got a surplus

Working at the Ministry did nothing for Luna's peace of mind. It wasn't the mountain of paperwork that bothered her. It was how redundant it seemed. Instead of making copious notes on thestrals, she was writing the same notes three times because they had to be on three different forms. She enjoyed the thestrals and it wasn't their fault the Ministry's policies continued to drive out some of the most innovative minds, but she appeased herself with a promise that once she did manage to strike it out on her own, she'd still see that herd. However, getting independent research enough to get published was proving difficult. However, being in the Ministry did have its perks, like being invited to parties she wouldn't be invited to otherwise. the Hallowe'en party in particular.

Skipping up the steps, she knocked on the door. Visiting Hermione always helped set her mind racing a bit more. Her friend could always be counted on for a level head, well nearly always, but more importantly, Hermione was one of two truly close girl friends she had. It always seemed a bit closer between them, though that might be the shared experiences of womanhood. Luna's head tilted slightly as she decided that must be it.

While she could have gone shopping instead of coming here, but she'd miss the company and she'd miss her dress. When Hermione had offered, Luna had simply known her dress was there. What color or style, she didn't know, but that would be revealed. But it just seemed right, and it was a chance to give Hermione the gift she'd been neglecting to deliver. It had been a month since she went to Skara Brae, and she'd have to return sometime, but she knew Hermione would appreciate the token and more so if no one else were around.

Luna smiled and nodded, taking the dress and headed to the indicated bedroom with a gait that could only be described as halfway between floating and bouncing. Once there, she changed quickly into the dress, frowning only briefly at areas that didn't fit her as well as she'd like. However, charming a dress that didn't belong to her seemed a bit uncouth.

Heading out of the bedroom, she tilted her head, relaying none of her concern even as she announced, "I like it, though I think some alteration may be required."

She turned slowly, allowing Hermione to see the dress, more because she felt the motion was expected than that she truly worried Hermione's vote would change anything.

Hermione immediately saw areas where the dress needed to be altered in order to fit Luna perfectly. "Hold still and I'll fix it for you," she stated wanting to ensure that the dress was indeed a perfect fit. With a few flicks and some swishing she spoke the incantations that made the necessary corrections.

"There," she folded her arms and gave the other woman an appraising look. "It looks absolutely splendid on you." Hermione didn't mind giving up a dress for Luna. It was the least she could do after the other witch had helped care for her without reserve in the days following their time at Malfoy manor. Luna's strength amid her own turmoil had amazed Hermione.

Luna looked down, feeling the alterations before even seeing them. Yes, this would be perfect and would go well with the mask she was planning as well.

"I think this will be quite perfect. You are very sweet. Thank you." With one more twirl, she sauntered into the bedroom to change back into her clothes.

"I don't often wear white though I imagine most will be wearing things they're not often seen in."

Hermione smiled as she watched her friend flit back into the bedroom to change. Hermione had never been much of a girlie girl and didn't often spend time doing things that were typically associated with ways in which women were assumed to spend their time.

"I'm sure you'll find quite a few individuals looking a bit different than normal," Hermione added to the sentiment. She wondered how many witches and wizards would fall into the category of attempting the Muggle tradition rather than following the traditions of their own world.

Luna smiled dreamily, the only outward indication of the extent of her gratitude was the gentle and lovingly way she handled the dress.

"Have you decided what you're wearing?" Her sing-song voice lilted gently. "I'm quite excited for all of the costumes and masks. I think it promises to be quite an entertaining night. Will you be dancing?"

Hermione watched the way Luna handled the dress and couldn't help but smile at her friend. She would look lovely in the item and Hermione was glad she could be of assistance.

"I'm not planning on attending," Hermione stated rather plainly. "Mr. Clagg hasn't requested my presence so I rather sit this one out." She hated these social events. Even five years after the war people were still intrigued by her time with Harry in the months leading up to the battle. Therefore, when given the opportunity to avoid people she took it. Little did she know that the events of the next few days would spark enough curiosity that she would change her mind.

Luna tilted her head. "Well I should miss you then. I hope you have a wonderful night in your planning?" She understood her friend's reluctance of public events, especially given how many people saw her as a celebrity.

Luna herself cared little for attention or lack thereof and always found joy in being near dancing and others' happiness.

Hermione hadn't really given any thought to how she would spend Halloween evening. Seeing as she had a Muggle flat she might just go to the local market and purchase some candies to give to trick-or-treaters. Either that or sit curled up with a good book.

"You will have to tell me all about in the days that follow," Hermione held a finger up to let Luna know to hold on for a moment before leaving. She then headed into her bedroom and pulled one of the garment bags out of her closet. "Here this will make it easier to travel with the dress."

Luna nodded, then waited as Hermione fetched the garment bag, eyes flickering to it as if nearly forgetting the bag was the most natural thing in the world. "Oh thank you. Yes, I wouldn't want it to be damaged on the way. And of course I'll tell you all about it. Though I imagine some other people might be better narrators than I."

Setting the dress in the bag she caressed the outside, "You should reconsider, but I know you won't and it's all right. I could bring you back something if you like?"

Hermione was certain there were others who could relay the events of the coming gala in a much more concise and flowing manner than Luna. None of them would have her flair for the minute and strange details that would unfold during the evening.

"If I do have a change of heart I will make sure to be in attendance." It was the most she could promise. Even though she could see no reason on the horizon for her to want to change her mind.

Luna smiled and nodded, "Thank you again for the dress. I'll let you know how the evening goes." She stepped toward the door, then stopped and turned once more to Hermione. "There is no pressure to go. You should enjoy your evening."

Hermione followed Luna to the door and held it open for her friend. "I will," she assured both Luna and herself.

"I'll see you soon then," Hermione waited for her friend to exit then closed the door before turning her attention to the book that had been patiently waiting on the end table for her return.
