Who: Ben and Lucy Hooker
What: Hellooooo, awkward reunion!
Where: The Hookers' penthouse in NYC
When: Thursday evening, April 8th
Warnings: TBD? Probably some language and hissy fits.
Lucy couldn't remember the last time she'd been this nervous. Waiting for Ben to come home, simultaneously wanting to see him and wanting to crawl into bed and never come out, had made her so antsy and distracted that even her son had noticed that something was wrong, which was a pretty serious feat. Tommy was a good kid, sweet and kind (and yes, as Jason loved to point out, more than a little spoiled), but he wasn't all that observant. She reassured him and played with him, of course, but even that didn't help calm her down, and so she put him to bed early, much earlier than usual. She needed quiet, and she needed to be alone for a little while, at least until Ben showed up.
She curled up on the couch and absentmindedly twirled a lock of red hair around her finger, a bad habit she could never seem to get rid of. What was taking him so long? And why hadn't he told her about Lafayette before? She'd been on the boards for almost a month now, he'd read her posts, but he never said anything, not even when they talked on the phone. He knew how lost and confused she was, how hard this had been on her without him here to comfort her, but he hadn't done anything. Instead he'd been fighting a war. What did that even mean, fighting a war?! Between his business trips overseas, he didn't have time to fight a war! The more she thought about it, the less it made sense, and all she wanted was for him to come home and talk to her. Explain things to her. Make everything make sense. That wasn't too much to ask, was it?
You just want 'im to come home 'cause you're horny, Jason piped up in the back of her head, his Southern drawl slow and cocky. Good luck with that. Ain't no way I'm fuckin' Lafayette. No. Goddamn. Way.
"Shut up, Jason," she groaned, closing her eyes and burying her head in one of the couch's pillows. "You're not helping." She had enough to agonize about without adding Jason and Lafayette in the mix. Hopefully Ben would make it better. All of it.
