She closed her eyes and smiled briefly while he wasn't looking. She hoped he wasn't looking, anyway. If he was, he'd probably the notice the slight blush that appeared on her cheeks as he touched her, and who knew where that could lead. Fortunately, his comment about the way the necklace looked allowed her to roll her eyes and give him a little push - an affectionate one, but also one that meant business. She'd let him get away with the diamonds this time, but he'd have to watch his compliments.
"Don't even start," she laughed. She touched the pendant idly and swung her hair off her shoulder with a small shake of her head. "Thanks for the gift, but that's all I need from you." That sounded a little more bitter than she'd meant it, so she changed the subject quickly. "So, uh, how are things here at the castle? And your dad, how's he doing?" She knew that would open a whole other can of worms, but that was kind of the idea. Sitting down on one of the sofas, she placed the box and paper next to her and squirmed in her seat until she was comfortable. She'd rather be sitting for this conversation.
