Dates: Wednesday, June 13th to Sunday, June 17th. Monday and Tuesday are travel/set-up days.
Forecast: Cool breezes, cloudy skies, interspersed with pleasant patches of sun. A mild week.
Details: Tom steers the carnival up North for the first time in recent memory, acting on a promise to a friend. Culture shock and wild profits ensue in the place once known as "Sin City", more than making up for their losses during last week.
Optional plot prompts:
It is announced on Wednesday night that Carter (ridethebull) will be the new backstage manager, and John (ourfather) will be promoted to Carter's old job as midway manager/stake boss. Congratulations!
Montrealers are eager to get a look at the strange newcomers, and some acts might want to play up the 'exotic' factor to entice more onlookers and customers. The language barrier (many, if not most, of the patrons will be [Québec] French-speaking, or immigrants) might be a problem for certain acts that depend on spoken word to get their point across, but others who do not rely on speeches may do quite well, just by virtue of being novel and interesting.
As was mentioned before, there will be a large immigrant population, though despite this, discrimination still runs rampant toward minorities. For example, though the city is host to Canada's largest Jewish population, anti-Semitism is very prevalent.
On a lighter note, carnies might want to partake in local culinary traditions, such as beer, maple syrup, bagels, and smoked meat, the latter two being courtesy of the Montréal Jewish community.
Unfortunately, the carnival's store of grain, as well as other foods, goes bad as a result of the constant rain of weeks previous, and needs to be thrown out. There is no supper on Thursday night, and carnies will have to fend for themselves if they wish to eat.
Several carnies receive flirty advances from local heartbreakers. Make of that what you will!
