Lily had started to see the man James Potter truly was back at Hogwarts. With the help of Remus Lupin, she had seen that there was more to him than his jokes and pranks, more heart than she had originally given him credit for. Underneath all that was a loyal, dedicated young man, one she found herself falling for. It was as much a surprise to her as it was to James when she had finally confessed.
But it was moments like these that made her realize, for herself, how special and remarkable her husband was. She leaned over and gave him a very long, very genuine kiss on the lips, her hand coming up to cup his face. "I think you're an amazing husband and an even more amazing father." James seemed to be handling this whole ordeal much better than herself. She wanted to try and be supportive, help out wherever, but she constantly felt like she was stepping on toes.
To be honest, she was still wrapping her head around having a son.
"Whatever they say, I'll be there with you every step of the way."
