- There is a motion sensor and small camera discretely placed to monitor the alcove where people appear. So, when you arrive you will be greeted quickly, usually after no more than a minute or two. It might be a Emma, or it might be one of the people who help out (this includes played characters), but whoever it is will try to explain as best they can what's happened to you, and reassure you as much as possible.
- The Between Roads are connections between alternate worlds, or universes, and your character chanced upon an open one by accident. It will be explained that trying to go back through could end with you literally anywhere - the chances of you making it home are slim to none, and there's no way to direct your travel (that anyone knows of). As far as it can be known, all other places link to this one, and not to each other, like the spokes in a wheel. This world is the hub, the centre of all worlds. Getting back here from somewhere else is fine, assuming you can find an open Road, but going from here to anywhere else? A complete gamble.
- You will be given a bed at a hostel-type set up on the outer edge of the Northern Quarter. This means a fair bit of odd activity can be easily explained away, because it's the Northern Quarter. There's two people to a room, and your roommate may or may not be played, though I encourage people to make connections with other characters this way.
- The hostel, run by Emma who runs the library's cafe, will also provide simple meals and some spending money to help you get on your feet. You'll be provided with ID (with your own name, or a name of your choice), in the form of a British driving license - or passport if you can't drive - and helped to get some kind of work or education, if that's what you want to do.
- If your character doesn't look human and can't easily blend or hide their features, you will be provided with some tattoo-cover make up to help get around. For game purposes we'll assume things like a tail are easily hidden under a coat or clothing. Wings are trickier, but there are options depending on how the character wants to try and work it.
- Helping at the library/cafe/hostel is also a legitimate choice in place of job/education (you can be given a job there if that's your long term choice). Regardless, once you're settled it's hoped that you'll pitch in at least a little while looking for a job or whatever you're going to do next.
- Your character will be given a basic mobile phone, pay-as-you-go type (with instructions on using it and topping up credit where needed) so they can make friends, or call the hostel or cafe in an emergency.
- There are five computers there available to use in the cafe, sitting on a breakfast-bar type surface against the wall. There is also wifi, and those characters with access to their own laptops/tablets/smartphones will be able to use it. Basic instruction will be given to alt-characters (if they need it) and they'll be given log in information for the social network.
