G didn't really think he could do this again. Despite smoothing things over between them the day before, all this fuss over the certifications just reminded G he wasn't ever going to have those tiny moments everyone else took for granted. He'd come to terms with it years ago and it was just this fucking place, this dimension and the situation it put them all in, that was messing with his head and making him think he had a chance for any of it. That wasn't his lot. His lot was to make sure everyone else got what was never meant for him.
And he would have slipped quietly out of the room and let everyone celebrate on their own if Savannah hadn't caught him before the intention was fully formed in his mind.
"Pictures with the...cake?" She never failed to come up with something that sounded normal and made him stare at her cross-eyed because he couldn't imagine why it was needed. Still, he took the card and box, flashing back for a moment to his birthday with Sam and not knowing any better what to do with a gift now than he had then...especially not when he didn't know why he was getting one. Seeing the contents of each, he found himself at a loss again for the second time in as many days.
