"I think the Lieutenant Commander is mistaken," G said soberly, an expression that never made it to his eyes, which gave away the laughter he was holding in. "I chose to stay a little behind to get a better view of your badass, Sir."
G stared up into Sam's eyes. "Do you really think I'm going to take any risks of any level of craziness that I don't have to if she's with me? Knowing her, she'd think she had to do what you would do in order to protect me and follow me into whatever fix I was getting myself into." He shook his head. He might dare a lot of things knowing Sam could hold his own and together they'd figure out a way out of it. Or, if he was on his own and could count on Sam to find him eventually. But, he wouldn't take those chances with Savannah. He'd never forgive himself if she was hurt as a result. "Reminding me of his need to prove himself doesn't instill any more confidence in his ability to know when you're not Superman and he needs to stop hero-worshiping and get his ass in there to watch your six."
The laughter finally came out again. "That dancing and singing bear is nowhere near deadly enough for my tastes." Leaning up he traced the inked design on Sam's shoulder with the tip of his tongue. It wasn't even about teasing in that moment, but enjoying the intimacies that were just theirs. "No tattoos, either," he added with a smirk. "So, I'll get us time from Shere Khan and then we'll corral King Louis' monkeys into getting it in shape."
Humming quietly, G let his eyes close just to better feel Sam's hand on him. It was a little scary how much better he felt knowing they had all night together instead of brief words in passing as they changed shifts. He wasn't supposed to need anyone this way. "You'd have hated it if I was quiet," he said when he opened his eyes again. "The marks were understandable. This is stupid. It's not like I think he wants you like that. It's the job. We do what we have to in order to get the job done, right? I made the call, even. I put you together as partners." G sighed. "I just never really thought about it not being us out there any more. I never learned to share and play well with others. And, I hope that wasn't supposed to be a threat," he said, face brightening into a grin. "Because to me it just sounds like incentive."
