"Following orders is something you have to do because it's the only way that we all stay alive, but words are important to people, especially when we have little else. You want to say that you will follow order, you'll pitch in, you'll help, that's all great. Don't talk about being part of the team, because no one will believe you, not right now. I don't even know what this team has had to go through in the past five months, and I don't pretend to understand how some of the new friendships even came about, but they exist, and they had five months to cultivate these relationships, to grow strong together, while you were viewed like the people who abandoned the team.

"Saying that you're part of the team, won't make you so. I would say it show it, but Eliot has made it clear that you're ready to leave as soon as possible. So don't bother, don't try to pretend, because you will get people angrier." Derek sighed. "I know it's hard to be on the outside, but I think you'll find that people are more receptive if you just admit that you will do what you can without being part of this team. That's what I was trying to say the other day."
