Re: Four Leads, John, Dom
John couldn't help laughing. "Yeah, we've been living in a trailer park in Castaic since March, surrounded by actual non-dimensional traveling civilians." And he supposed those civilians were all dead now. "Asking too many questions of the author of The Time Machine hasn't really been high on my to-do list."
He huffed softly. "After dimensional rifts and super powers, I'd be disappointed if you more surprised at time travel. I'd imagine most of the team wouldn't be...and that's kind of dangerous in and of itself. Vance and Hetty barely blinked and that was after what? Only four months? Once you've swallowed one or two impossible notions, the next ones never seem that bad. I was kind of the same when I arrived. I've traveled through time. Moving to a new dimension was inconvenient, not inconceivable.
"But, yeah, it was Vance and Hetty's call." It was impossible not to remember talking to Vance about this. They'd just had this conversation a few weeks ago. And, John bit back another sigh at the memory. Losing people he cared about never did get any easier. "I went to Vance for permission because I didn't honestly know if it could be useful or not. I've been playing a serious game of catch-up since I arrived and I'm still way behind Dom and Sheldon when it comes to the physics. So, I wanted Dom's opinion. His initial reaction was pretty similar to the one you just had over Helena only twice as geeky. And I was eighteen with a mission to complete and in a hurry to get home. There was some disagreement and miscommunication. But, we did both agree that messing with time could go seriously wrong and I don't think either one of us has changed that opinion.
"I'm one of those major players assassins were sent back in time to kill and I accidentally wiped myself and all my future self's contributions to the war out of existence by going too far into the future and not far enough into the past. Derek's presence in the past and that of others drastically changed the beginning of the war and the resistance. So, I know firsthand that it's far too dangerous to be messing with. There's every possible chance that we haven't just fucked up one dimension, but created numerous fucked up dimensions as things are changed each time someone goes back or forward. I can't let that happen to other worlds.
"Theoretically, I'll admit, I still think time and dimensions are two sides of the same coin. But, I think the fact we have a working machine without having to delve into time travel directly proves we don't have to in order to do this and that's best for all dimensions we might visit. All we need is a way to navigate and time to recharge the power supply. I don't think we need to mess with time and take the chance of destroying any dimension we travel to in order to do that."
