Marty set his phone aside so he could look at her while she talked. He'd found it was much easier to follow where her mind led the conversation if he did. Most of the time, it worked. Although, there were some times, like a couple months ago, when their wavelengths were too far apart to match up. Still, he thought he might get part of what she was saying now. She seemed to be jumping from one thought to another midstream at some places, though. So, he might be pretty far off.
"Well, if what you're trying to say is that because of my job being what his should be you've been expecting me to be G without realizing that's what you were doing, then, yeah, I think you're making sense. If that's not what you're saying...then, I'm not quite following," he replied with a grin after staring at her for a moment. Reaching out, he tugged lightly on Jamie's foot for a second, the way he might tweak a lock of Savannah's hair when he was teasing. "If that is what you're saying, though, I get it. It took me a while to stop trying to do this job the way G would do things instead of the best way I can. I might be over the worst of the self-worth issue where he and Sam are concerned. But, trying to fill his shoes is daunting. And, really, I'm not very good at it. If I'd had to do this before they got everything organized and under control...? I'm just building on the foundation they left for me. And you don't owe me any apologies for something I'm just as guilty of doing."
Smirking, he winked at her. "Unless that's not what you're apologizing for, in which case, apologize away."
