Summary: Helena arrives in Omega.
Helena was fetching the Sunday newspaper when it happened. There was a flash of bright white light and suddenly the rain that had been bouncing against her umbrella turned into a clear, sunny morning. "Oh dear," she said, looking around as she lowered her umbrella. A combination like that meant trouble.
The newspaper was no longer at her feet, but instead further up the walk. Behind her, the previously open front door was shut and the drapery on the windows pulled closed. Helena's tesla gun was in her sweater pocket, as well as her farnsworth. She was glad she was intelligent enough not to be without them.
The neighborhood around her looked similar, but not exactly the same. Two of the houses were different colors, a different vehicle was parked in the neighbor's driveway than when she'd left her doorway, and spring blooms were not where they should be.
Helena didn't panic, as she did work for the Warehouse and the unusual was quite usual. She checked the newspaper first. It was dated correctly although the name of the newspaper was different than the one she'd been getting. The house was next. She found the front door locked, as she had theorized it would be. Walking around to the back gave her the opportunity to look through an unshaded window and she saw that the furnishings were completely different than what she owned.
She kept walking, through the back yard and into the wooded area behind the houses. While the woods seemed the same, she could not find the tree where she'd hidden the Astrolabe, and she knew she was very precise in her steps and direction.
Leaning her umbrella against the tree, she took out her farnsworth and attempted to contact Mrs. Frederick. She only received static in return on that and every other channel she tried. "Wonderful," she commented to herself, slipping the farnsworth back into her sweater pocket. As the farnsworth could not be blocked, and it was unlikely every person would be under duress and thus unable to respond, Helena hypothesized an artifact was at play.
To test it, Helena walked into town, observing and cataloging the differences she found. Though none of the shops were open yet, the names and locations of many were not the same as the Galena she knew. The newspaper had verified that she was still in Galena itself, but an altered one. Whether it was she who had been altered or the world around her was yet to be determined.
Unable to purchase coffee when the shop opened as her currency was incorrect - she passed it off as her young daughter playing house with phony bills - Helena retreated to the park overlooking the river that ran through town. She sat on a bench, rested her umbrella across her lap, and meditated on her next course of action.
