RP: Club night
Who: Everyone
Where: Rec center
When: Saturday, February 9, 2013
Summary: It's a Saturday night, but not everything goes according to plan

Saturday nights were nothing like before, but they were still fun. People got to sit around and play, sing, or just talk. It was even better without Brian's magical brownies.

Savannah enjoyed the singing, but her eyes were always on Marty and the twins. She would have never believed two years ago and she'd always be prepared for the worse, but she was. It was something else to put in the long list of 'things G was right about'. She was writing it to and kept it in her backpack, because one day, she would give it to him. She just knew it.

"I've always been this insightful; it just didn't fit the public image," TJ replied with a smirk. It was better than snorting at the idea of Dad wanting to piss them off. Really, their parents needed to learn the brothers did better when they stopped meddling. Of course, insightful was easier to pull off when he wasn't high as a kite and actually gave a shit about the person in question.

Possibly more of the second reason than the first. After all, how many philosophers, writers, artists, and musicians had been high, drunk, or otherwise blissed out when inspiration struck?

"Damage control isn't change," he pointed out. "Damage control, shifting political landscapes, divergences in the polls...that's all the norm for you guys. Change is always personal and Doug always needs time to deal with it. Travis and I are watching out for him. He'll be okay. And I'm going to hope Vail meant the hot guy with laser beam eyes from that movie otherwise I might have to remember North Carolina is still the South and that's my Mama he's talkin' about." Grinning, he leaned over to bus her cheek. "Are you doing okay with that?"

"Of course you were," she said, chuckling. "It's nice to see you use that insight to help your brother. It's just nice to see you this close again, and you- Sweetheart, even I don't have the words to tell you how proud I am of how well you're doing and how much you are helping your brother. Even more importantly, I'm happy that you look happy, not that euphoric energy you had in DC, but real happiness."

She looked around the room to find Marks. "I still can't believe it took a no nonsense cop. I can't believe you are dating a cop," she said, turning to look at her son with a chuckle. "You weren't exactly the champion for a lawful life, but now, when you talk, you tend to say 'Travis and I' a lot, like a real couple should. This is all I ever wanted for you: happiness."

Her boy wasn't such a boy anymore. Without the drugs, he was a lot more observant and caring, and he showed how much of a Hammond he was, even if he didn't like politics. "We thrive on that kind of changes, but yes, this is different, and I am trusting you with Dougie." Elaine laughed. "I don't know if he was hot or not, but I'm fairly sure there is the person he was referring to." She thought for a moment. "Tell you the truth? It's a little tiring, but rejuvenating at the same time. I might not be as fit as all these young men and women, but I can kick ass with my power. Of course, your powers would have been so much more useful in the White House."

TJ stared at his mother for a moment, mentally classifying this as the weirdest night ever. First Tommy saying he was a good friend, now his mother was proud of him and he actually thought he believed her? He really wasn't sure what to do with these positive sentiments, unused to hearing them as he was.

His mother was already looking for Travis in the room before TJ's brain caught up to things and he laughed. "Trust me, there's a good dose of nonsense in there. Ask about our birthday celebration at dinner tomorrow. You'll see." Smiling, he watched Travis a moment longer. "I don't know about champion for lawful life, but I guess he's finally convinced me he has my back."

Laughing, he shook his head. He was still trying to get a handle on just what he could do with his power. "You always kicked ass, Mama. Just more with words and that withering stare of yours. But, yes, he was hot." He leaned over and kissed her cheek again. "And now I'm going to go see if my hot no-nonsense boyfriend can be coerced into dancing in front of my parents."
