RP: Derek, Deeks
Who: Derek, Deeks (with a side of Savannah at the start)
Where: the island
When: After work, Friday, December 28, 2012
Summary: Derek has some changes to run by Deeks

With the news about the return of the three people in Pittsburgh, he had a full roster for both partners and housing. What he didn't have was Deeks' approval to start getting people moving and argue with Vance once again about the necessity of him not sleeping alone. The man was way too used to having people going along with him, even his own people. Derek had never had a problem with telling Connor when he was wrong. Why would he change now? Still he needed Deeks' approval.

"Sir, wait up," he said, running toward Deeks, who was walking with Savannah.

Savannah looked at Marty with a grin. "Sir?" she mouthed. "I'll start dinner. You take your time," she said louder. "You're more than welcome to join us, Derek. In fact, I'll let John and Brian know that y'all are having dinner with us today. I'll see you in a bit."

Derek stared after her with a frown. "When did I agree on dinner?" Not that he was going to turn down food, but she made his head spin sometimes. "Right, now that dinner plans are made, I had a few things for you to see. If I have your approval, I'll start telling people about it and we can do some of the moving this weekend and not cut time during training, especially considering all the breaks we're having."

He reached into his pocket and took out a folded piece of paper. It was handwritten in pencil, with names erased and moved, different numbers of lines to indicate the partners in each house. He handed it to Deeks.

- Marty Deeks/Alexis Castle; Travis Marks/Hammond
- Derek Reese/Nell Jones; Tim Riggins/Nick Green
- Mike Renko/Claudia Donovan; Jenna Vail/Hammond
- Savannah Deeks/Oliver Queen; Sean Hanna/Tommy Merlyn
- John Baum/Brian Kinney; Dom Vail/Maura Isles
- Robert Callen/Troy Bolton

16 - 5 Bedroom House: Derek Reese/Nell Jones; John Baum/Brian Kinney; Leon Vance & Bud Hammond; Margaret & Elaine Barrish

22 - 5 Bedroom House: Robert Callen & Mike Renko, kids; Sean Hanna & Troy Bolton; Oliver Queen & Tommy Merlyn; Claudia Donovan & Eric Beale

32 - 4 Bedroom House: Travis Marks & Maura Isles, Dominic Vail & Jenna Vail, Blaze, Douglas Hammond & Thomas Hammond

36 - 4 Bedroom House: Marty & Savannah Deeks, kids; Alexis Castle & Tim Riggins; Nick Green & Sheldon Cooper

"I've made the pairings with loose teams. All the partners would be living together with the exception of Savannah and Queen, but there's just no way to make that happen. With the teams, I put what you asked for. The only team that's really up in the air is John's. Three of them are on rotation and Isle is too new. I was thinking of putting her with me when Dom isn't around, since Nell won't be full time with the team either. I would also want Beale to train as much as possible. Merlyn is new too, but Sean's hand is still not perfect and that will give them time to work together, before they have to be deployed. The office people I did the best I could, but really once you take out the people who are married, living together or whatever, you don't have much choice."

That was just the beginning as far as he was concerned if they were going into a war zone. "I had something else that I wanted to bring up. If we're going into a place without modern comfort, perhaps it would be useful to have dinner together. Outside. i mean I get some people want to do sides and stuff, and fine, but I'd say gt them used to cooking with fires, ashes. Teach them how to really survive or it will be a cultural shock and if we're going after four people that need to be rescued, we don't have time for the to get used to it. We could set up a camp fire near the storage building and dinner is there, regardless of weather condition. Maybe do it during the work week. Make it part of training for everyone."

"When you agreed to take second-in-command," Marty told him with a laugh. "Besides, it gives her a good excuse to get John and Brian to come over, too. And it's Deeks. I get the military thing, but I'm a detective. You start calling me 'Sir' and I'm going to be looking around for my lieut...or trying to hide since he and I didn't get on any better than the rest of the department and I did." He took the page Reese handed him, unsurprised to find the handwritten list. Whatever the reason for it, the fact Reese had a hate/hate relationship with modern technology wasn't lost on anyone if you paid attention.

"Field partners look good." He'd talk to Sean about working with Merlyn. Marty had worked Narc too long not to notice the signs and, while Sean was a good guy, he wanted to make sure he was prepared for what could happen...especially when he knew Sam's son well enough to know he would probably think of the assignment as more responsibility because Merlyn had been partnered with G. Since Reese had made the pairs, there was no likelihood of that happening even unconsciously, but Sean had almost as much direct training with Sam and G as Savannah had had because of how much he'd lived with them. Things rubbed off. Marty could see it in the way he thought about some things the way G or Sam would do them, things he hadn't thought or cared about before they'd come here, let alone before becoming the liaison to NCIS. "You sure you're good in a house full of politicians?" he asked with smirk. "Vance, Hammond, Barrish, those will be some fun times. Although, you don't have three dogs and two kids. Maybe it'll be quieter.

"It looks good. Nothing's going to be perfect. We'll work any kinks out as needed. Go ahead and get them moving. Work with Dr. Isles when you can. But you're also running the physical training, you can't be tied to one person all the time. So, let's rotate her with a few pairs as necessary. Can't hurt to make people learn to work in triads as well as pairs. And she can pair with Alexis when Nell's there and I need to be elsewhere. It'll do Alexis some good, too."

The suggestion about meals was something Marty knew he never would have thought of on his own. It made sense. But, he had a feeling he'd be one of those in culture shock. "Not the same as toasting hot dogs and marshmellows on the beach, huh? Alright, let's do it. Dinners during the week, which won't land us in a spot where Vance needs a new Lead and second when my wife kills me for taking away Sunday dinners while she can still have them."

"I don't remember being given a choice," he said with a snort. Not that he would have turned it down, but you rarely were asked if you wanted to be in command. Even the question to Deeks was more of a statement that only demanded on possible answer. "Deeks, got it. The 'Sir' might slip once in a while, but I'll try not to." Otherwise, he was good with last names. Much better than all of these people who were on a first name basis the moment they met you.

Derek shrugged. "They need protection and if Vance is going to bitch, I might as well show him that it's not just about his comfort." He grinned. "And besides, there are so many ways to gag someone." Some weren't even fun. He remembered having to tape shut the mouth of an infant that wouldn't stop crying when they had machines walking above their tunnels. "This might be more enjoyable than some of the things I've done in the past, and I can tell them to shut up. I'm not sure you get that luxury with your wife."

He nodded. "It won't be a problem. She can work with me instead, at least during physical training," he said, smirking, but he wasn't kidding. "We don't have time to baby her. She doesn't get the same time others did. I know I can't overdo it, but she'll have to learn, and switching her around is a good idea, she gets exposed to different styles, and I've made the teams for the chain of command, but it would be good to switch pairs around so everyone can work with everyone else."

Food was one thing that he knew how to adjust to. He'd had crappy food all of his adult life. "No, not exactly the same. We can wait for the new year to implement that, give everyone a nice end of the year. Also Queen is supposedly good with a bow. If we see that's true, we might want to include it in training. He can take over that. I used to use arrows long ago, but then got the rifle and it worked better, but bows can be very quiet and sometimes that's vital." He hesitated for a moment. "I know this isn't my area, and if I'm overstepping just say so, but you might want to consider procuring not just new weapons but currencies that could be used in other dimension. Diamonds, gold, silver, things we can use regardless of dimension. Even food in some places."

"Minor detail." Marty chuckled. As far as he was concerned, there was always a choice. Wasn't always a good one or much of one, but there was always a choice. "Don't sweat it, too much. It wasn't an order. Just personal preference. I won't shoot you for the 'Sir'." He smirked. "At least not the first dozen times."

Raising a hand, he shook his head and grinned. "I don't need to know about the gags, man, really. What you do behind closed doors is up to you." Alright, Reese sounded like he had a handle on things and was more than up to the task of getting the Director to do what was needed. Marty snorted. "Oh, I'm sure I could tell her...I would never have sex again and she would find creative ways to make me sorry I ever considered it. Possibly she'd turn Nova against me, too. But at least Harley would still like me."

Marty made notes in his head on the training ideas and Queen's archery. "Can't say it was ever something that I had to use. But, if there's anything I've learned in the last two years, it's that you never know what skills will come in handy. If it's true, we'll see about adding it to training."

This would have to stop, though. Marty understood chain of command and all that, but no matter what they were going into, this was still as much a team as it was a combat unit or whatever else they would need to be as they moved forward. "There's no overstepping if you're making suggestions. You have an idea, I want to hear it, okay? I may not agree. I may have already thought of it. Or, I may think it's brilliant. But, we don't have the same experience. So, you're going to think of things I won't. And vise versa. It's what's going to make this work." G probably would have thought of these things. He just had that knack for creative problem solving. But, Marty wasn't G. "And that's one of those things I wouldn't think of that's a good idea. So, we'll drop a word in Vance's ear about it. And you get any more ideas, no more hesitation in bringing them up, got it?"

"Now, I know how to get out of this gig... Sir," he said with his own smirk. "I can help you count if it makes your life easier. After all, it is my job as your second to deal with the nuisances."

Derek knew that Deeks was joking, but he sighed. "Unfortunately, you probably need to know. Sometimes when you have children in bunkers and they start crying, or when you have wounded that need surgery with no anesthesia, then gags are necessary. Sometimes you must tape their mouths shut. It doesn't matter how old they are, who the parents are, how cruel it seems. You have a lot of children here. You might never have sex again when you suggest that, but it might become a necessity."

He shrugged. "As I said, nothing I used for long. I got better with a rifle and never let it go again." Bows were fine for hunting, but not so much for machines.

Nodding at the remark, Derek thought how different this was going to be. Connor didn't want suggestions, not really, at least not for a long while. He'd have to get used to the talking again. "I'll let you know when I get more brilliant idea, even if they will get you banned to the couch... well actually, speaking of couches, Isles will be alone until we pick those three up. I want to keep her in my room. She can share with Nell. I'll take the floor. It's only a few days anyway."

"As if it were really that easy." Marty tsked. "Don't let this pretty face fool you. I mean, I know it's gorgeous and all. But, there's a devious mind under all this fluffy hair. I've got your number now, Reese."

That was most definitely not the sort of thing Marty had been expecting when gags were brought up. He'd been joking about sex. Reese...wasn't joking. "That's...disturbing." Marty echoed the other man's sigh and ran a hand through his hair while he wrapped his mind around the image. "Alright, so extreme measures may be necessary." Maybe not the extreme measures Reese was thinking. But, if Marty was around, he could take care of things like that, at least. No one would have to know and parents wouldn't need to be traumatized. And Marty would just pray they never had to get to those extremes when he wasn't around or it wasn't something he could control. Even thinking about controlling it as an option was extreme enough for Marty. "But, I've seen enough on the streets to know people have an amazing capacity to do things they never would have considered before, when it's necessary. Nothing like what you've seen, I'll guess. But, you'll have to forgive me if I hope it doesn't become necessary."

The usual affable smile reappeared as Reese went on. "You do that. And I'll deal with possible couch banning." He grinned before adding, "You're on your own with sleeping with two women."

"I'll just have to find a different way." He smiled. "And I can honestly say that unlike most of the men on this island, I have never thought a man is gorgeous. Ever. Sorry, you can keep the face and the fluffy hair and I'll look at women." Not that he'd been doing a lot of that either. There was a war to win just to go back to his own war.

Derek shrugged. "Those aren't extreme measures, but people find it disturbing the first few times it happens. Better than people killed like rats in a trap." He gave Deeks a mirthless smile. "No one wants it to be necessary and we do have it these powers. I'll just be ready when the times come anyway."

He frowned, because he really didn't get it. "They are members of the team before anything else." People slept together all the time in his reality. He didn't see how gender was an issue. "All right, I'll hand out the new assignments, and come over for dinner. I'll see you later."
