RP: Maura, Savannah, Callen
Who: Maura Isles, Savannah Monroe, G Callen (brief side of Marty)
Where: Training Center
When: Thursday, December 20, 2012 - Start of powers training
Summary: An innocent comment, a not-so-innocent argument.
Maura had spent an interesting day with Agent Prentiss, learning the fundamental differences between this dimension and her own. It was a much better day than the day before which had included paperwork and evaluations. Maura still hit like a girl, to borrow Jane's description. And the closest she had ever come to using a gun had been when she kicked Leahy's away so Jane could subdue him. She wasn't really much of a fighter.
After dinner, which was an interesting affair with the rations provided, the schedule she'd been briefed about called for 'powers training'. Maura was only allowed to observe, but that suited her perfectly. The idea of genetic mutations activated by the crossing from one dimension to another was fascinating. To be able to see these powers in action and observe how each individual dealt with the changes was a unique opportunity.
Maura was the first to arrive, quite early, and chose a seat on the floor to one side where she hoped she'd be out of the way. She could use the twenty minutes to meditate and de-stress after the chaos of the last two or three days. As she took a deep breath, she closed her eyes, only to open them a minute later at the sensation of something tapping at her knee.
That something turned out to be a small child, roughly six to eight months in age.
"Well, hello. Who do you belong to?" Looking up and behind the child, Maura saw a young couple entering with a child who was the mirror image of the one using Maura's knee to stand up. Callen, the rough-spoken leader of the men who'd been sent to pick her up...retrieve her?...kidnap her?...was with them.
"Marty," Callen was saying, "haven't you learned by now? It's never a good sign when the pretty girls run away from you. It's a good thing you have Savannah around. How about you let her actually get the girls settled instead of playing tag with them and give me a hand over here?"
"Aw, but they love getting chased by Daddy, don't you?" The young father swept the other child up and smacked a kiss on her stomach before setting her down and following Callen.
"They're very beautiful little girls," Maura said. "Very healthy, too. Regular exercise is so important for their development at this age. You know, recent studies have shown that the level of physical activity in children has a direct correlation to increased attention span, achievement, and memory."
