Entry tags:*complete, 2012 12, character: oliver queen, character: tommy merlyn

RP: Oliver/Tommy
Who: Oliver/Tommy
Where: Tommy's room
When: very early AM December 14, 2012
Summary: It's Tommy's birthday. Oliver gives the gift of lurking.

Oliver was in Tommy's room again, perched on the arm of the sofa with his feet on the cushions, watching Tommy tossing and turning. He'd used the window to enter silently. He didn't want to wake Tommy if he'd been sleeping and he was; restless sleep was still sleep, and Tommy needed it. It was the second night after Oliver's talk with Savannah, Thursday bleeding into Friday. He'd done this a little on Wednesday night, too, unsure and awkward with being there and he'd left before Tommy had awoken. It wasn't the first time he'd kept vigil over a sick comrade, but the circumstances were entirely different.

Dressed in sweats and a t-shirt, Oliver listened to Tommy's fitful slumber and quietly despaired that it had gotten to the point where he had to seek outside help to know how to be a friend. He wasn't even sure if he was doing this because he cared - and wow, was he fucked in the head.

"You are such a pain in the ass, Merlyn," Oliver grumbled. He got comfortable, using his t-shirt as a pillow. He concentrated on breathing until he was centered again.

Tommy's skin was unusually warm and sweaty. It was reassuringly disgusting. "It had better feel better. And by telling me that you're not asking questions, you're pointing out that something is making you want to ask questions."

"Really? That's what you choose to say while in this position?" Tommy laughed at the irony, but it made him feel better than they could still joke around.

He shifted around until he was resting on his back. He turned his head and stared at Oliver in the dim moonlight filtering through the crappy blinds, keeping his eyes on Oliver's face. "One, you started it with that charming comment about ripping my spine out. Two, I'm pointing out that we don't have to pretend that things haven't changed. We can accept that and move forward, and you don't have to feel like every time you show me a new part of you that I'll judge you. I would never do that, Oliver. You're my best friend. That hasn't changed, and a few scars won't make a difference."

"Everyone judges people. Disgust, contempt, pity, snobbery, sympathy, being pleased - it's all a form of judging." Oliver was less comfortable with Tommy looking at him. "Thea was horrified. Laurel went right on a crusade. I don't need or want people seeing me as a damaged cause." Because he wasn't; he was exactly what he needed to be.

"That's bullshit, and you should know that. Did you ever judge me? Are you here, because you pity me? Do I disgust you for being so weak? Come on, Oliver, you should know better than that," Tommy answered.

He shrugged. "Thea is young. She's a sweet girl, but she is a girl and you are her brother. She doesn't know how to react. Laurel is... Laurel. We're all causes to her. I'm pretty sure that going out with me is in her own way the road to my redemption, which I don't mind," he added with a smile. "I don't see you as a damaged cause. I see you as my best friend, who can kick ass in my place so I don't ruin my hands. Is that better?"

Tommy elbowed him gently. "I'm not judging you, Oliver. I am thankful to have you back in my life, and apparently in my bed," he finished with a chuckle.

"Yeah, all right. You're Tommy, and you're in your own special category," Oliver said. He might actually believe it, too. Being half-naked in bed with Tommy added credence to it. "For the record, this-," he motioned at them both in the bed, "-is still weird."

Tommy laughed. "And I agree with you completely, my friend. Weird and awkward and so many more things, so why don't we try to get so sleep and pretend that it's not happening. This is one thing that we can ignore." When Oliver's hand settled on his again, Tommy squeezed it. "I appreciate it. G'night, Oliver."
