RP: Getting settled
Who: Everyone
Where: Building 21
When: November 17, 2012
Summary: It's time to settle in for real

Leon had been up early and had spoken to both John and Savannah to find out the status. While what they had done in such a short time was impressive, this island was almost 60 square kilometers, with plenty of buildings spread throughout. Smartly, they had preference to the important installations, leaving the housing quarters untouched, which meant they needed to get moving so that they could have a resemblance of homes.

"Ladies and gentlemen, if I could have your attention for a moment. Our first order of business is getting people out of this building and living into homes. We have houses and hotel rooms. The hotel rooms have kitchens and they have doors in between. Family with children can have two and keep the doors open. You can also choose to live in a house. We have three to five bedrooms. If you do live in a house, you will be sharing," he said. "I need everyone to tell me what they want. You can have a few minutes to talk among yourself and then you must tell me your choice. Based on the requests, I will assign the housing. You can see me in private when you're know. Thanks."

Nick first thought it would be so cool to be able to live on his own in the hotel, but then he realized he'd have to cook for himself, like, all the time. That sucked.

He approached Leon. "Can I be in a house with someone who cooks good, please?"

Leon smiled. "Well, you'll have to talk to people and ask them," he said. "I'm not putting people in houses unless they want to share. Everyone else is going to have hotel rooms assigned." He'd listened to the complain about cleaning and sharing and they could either want to work together or not. He wasn't going through that when they didn't need it. It'd be hard enough having cleaning schedules for the many buildings around the island. "I suggest you talk to the others, before talking to me."

"Okay!" Nick chirped, and bounded off towards Alexis and Tim. He gave them a little wave.

"Hi, guys. Vance said I gotta talk to people if I want to share a house. Do you want to share a house?" Alexis was cool. She played video games sometimes with him and cooked good and helped him do cooking back at the school.

Alexis looked at Tim and then back at Nick. She didn't expect the question. In fact, it was the furthest thing in her mind. "Actually... I was going to speak with Nell and see if all of of us sharing, you know the same people as the ranch, but I'm not sure yet. Let me talk to her, see what she says, and then I'll let you know, okay? It won't take long." And if Nell said no, she'd have to see if Tim would co-exist with Nick in a house without killing him, but Nell was the first stop.

Claudia was wholly pissed at the Director for what he'd done. She didn't have the politest tone when answering, and kept it brief. "Hotel, though I'm okay with either."

Leon knew why the attitude and really he didn't care. Eventually they'd understand that he was protecting them or not. Either way, it wouldn't change his decisions in the future. "It will be the hotel unless you talk to people and find someone to share with," he said. "But all right, hotel it is. I'll give you the room and building number when we have everyone settled."

Everyone was pissed. She knew and understood well that part. She really didn't get why they lie, or maybe she did and it was still not good enough, like she understood why they had to leave New York, but liked it even less. She wanted to be in New York. She wanted to help her city. In part, she just wanted to live there, in the city that never sleep, the city were everything is right there, just a few subway stops away.

The only good news about this was that it looked like they were going to pick roommates again. She went to the one person she knew would not let her emotions cloud her judgment, because Nell was just so much better than the rest when it came to this. "So houses. Us, Tim, Sean and Troy, John and Brian and Derek. That's five bedrooms. We can take one of them. What do you think? It's not like we don't end up in the same house anyway, unless it's weird that you and Derek are the only single ones in which case, we'll split up and still spend time in one house," she said, laughing.

"Derek and I are doomed to be the single ones for a long time," Nell pointed out, laughing as well. "If it was weird, we'd have problems. Luckily, neither of us really cares."

Looking around the room, her eyes sought out each of there friends. The last couple weeks hadn't been easy on any of them, even if most of them would never really talk about it. They'd just do what they always did. Look after each other and offer up any distraction needed.

There wasn't really a question about it, though.

"I think we're all going to end up in one house no matter where we live...and possibly bring a few strays. So, really, having us all in one spot to begin with makes the most practical sense. And I'll be sure to inform the Director of that." She grinned.

"You can be single together," she said, trying not to laugh. "You two get invited as a couple anyway."

Alexis followed her gaze. "We should talk to them first. Maybe? You know just in case they want privacy. A married couple, a... I have no idea what John and Brian are at the moment, other than hurt." She sighed. "It really sucks. I want to hug them so badly, but then Brian would probably think I've lost my mind." She didn't like this one bit. "All right, you get the honor to tell Derek. I can tell Sean and Troy. Who's going to tell John and Brian? You should. Brian likes you more."

Robert loved his brother and he almost considered living with him. Almost. He had already lived with G, but that meant a hell of a lot of people, and he knew from experience that one person's mood affected everyone else and he didn't like being at people's whims.

He got closer to Mike, although he could have whispered from the other side of the room and not make a difference. "So hotel? Two contiguous rooms? Go eat at Savannah's, because you know she's getting a house whether the rest like it or not?" he said with a smile, and they might have sounded like questions, but they really weren't. He was not living in a zoo with too many people.

Mike was watching from the sidelines. It was strange seeing Savannah and John after being told they were dead. Still, he could get why the Director had done what he'd done. He didn't agree with the decision, and he got why people were pissed off, but he still got it.

When Robert moved closer he just nodded. He knew it wasn't a question, he had known before Robert spoken that it would be his choice. His too to be honest, not that he would have argued if Robert wanted to do differently.

"Hotel's good," he said. "Less hassle that way."

"Oh good," he said smiling. "I always love it when other people have to do the washing and cleaning." He hated dealing with chores, charts and other bullshit. He had been assigned his own quarters since joining the Air Force thanks to rank, and never had to worry about anything but his own quarters, with the enlisted men doing the dirty work.

"All right, I'll let G know and you can tell Vance," he said. "Now, the real question is can we get someone to clean the place for us as well? Now that would be great." He hadn't even seen anything but this building, but he doubted that anything would be clean. He was reminded once again how much he hated living like a poor man.

Dom/Jenna

2012-11-17 05:11 pm UTC (link)
There was one rule his father had taught him that Dom listened to daily. His father, the drill sergeant, had always said that you let your wife decide about the house and anything related to it, because life was much easier that way. Except for that old recliner that was old when Dom was in elementary school and was still in their house, Dom couldn't remember his father every caring or giving an opinion on anything related to the house.

It was a good rule as far as he was concerned.

He made sure that Blaze was happy on the floor, he approached Jenna. "So what do you want? House or hotel room?" If he decided, he'd be wrong. If she decided and didn't like it, he'd still be blamed for not deciding, but at least she wouldn't be able to blame him for the choice itself.

"House?" Jenna said. It felt as if a house was more stable, more like a family home, then again normally you didn't share a house.

"I can't say I have a strong preference either way. I think I'd prefer a house but it depends on who'd we get to share with. If it's someone in the family then house, otherwise hotel." She didn't mind Sheldon, but she'd had enough of sharing a house with him to last her quite a while.

The idea of sharing with Jenna's family made him twitch, because it was like living with your boss, only worse. It's not like he hadn't done it with his own father. He wouldn't have minded Eric or Sheldon, but he also knew better than to suggest a house full of geeks.

"It looks like we get to decide who to share with," he said, keeping his comments neutral. "Maybe you should speak with your family and see what they want, and then we see."

"It's all the same for me," he said, and NCIS really made you a good liar. Or maybe you had an affinity when you joined and the Service only sharpened your skills.

"Who would you want to live with? I mean, no way everyone in your family can fit in a house," he pointed out. He didn't ask if they were their own family, she wanted to live with her family, because that would be like stepping in a mine field and he liked his limbs to be attached to his body when the discussion ended.

"Sean and Troy maybe? Though I guess they'll live with their friends," she said. "I don't know, it's not like I expected to be given a choice."

She looked over at Savannah before turning back to look at Dom. "It's weird, before I wanted space, now... not quite so much. Now I just want some place where we can relax."

She reached out and squeezed his hand. "I'll talk to them and see what they want, but think about it too, okay? Whatever we decide we should do it together." The ideal, a house of their own, was the one option that wouldn't happen no matter what they did. Everything else was just different degrees of dealing.

Dom wouldn't mind living with Sean and Troy, but the idea made him smile. "Their friends or a crying baby? Let me see what they'll pick." He was even more confused about the rest. "And you think that relaxation comes in the form of your father." All right, then, this was the portion of the discussion when they stepped into the twilight zone.

He nodded. "Okay, talk to them. We can see the houses and hotel rooms, and then decide. I'm up for anything."

Jenna gave him a glare, but she couldn't not smile, even as she slapped him (playfully) on the arm. "Hey, that's my family you're talking about," she said, though she did get what he meant. She'd fought a lot with her father, though it had been some time ago now.

"I don't know, we've been getting along better lately." Maybe because she felt more at east, more at home. Even before Savannah's "death" they'd gotten along better, and after the last thing she'd wanted to do was fight with her father.

She nodded. "Okay, sounds like a good idea. We still have some time."

Savannah grabbed Marty's hand and dragged him (not that Marty had left her side since last night) to where Sam and G were. "So we're getting a house." It wasn't a question, and none of them were stupid enough to argue. "If it's just us, then a three bedroom is fine. We can always move to a four bedroom when we have our third child, but I'm not pregnant so don't worry about that." It was easier to lay down all of the options.

"If you want Sean and Troy, then a four bedroom. If you want Jenna and her family or Robert and her family, then we need a five bedroom," she said. "You'd better make up your mind and quickly, because depending on what you'd like we have to tell the others."

Sam looked at G. "So we're getting a house," he said with a tiny smirk. "In case you were wondering, you know? because you couldn't possibly want to live alone with me." He shrugged. "Whatever you feel comfortable with, I'm good."

G almost smirked when Savannah ran over and declared they were getting a house.

And an almost smirk was possibly the warmest expression he'd had since Halloween.

"Nope. Never crossed my mind that we might live alone." Not that he'd really thought much about living arrangements or anything else since they landed and he had to work just to keep his Lead mask in place. "But, see who wants to live where. If any of the others want to join us, it's fine. Not like we can fit everyone into one house."

Sam snorted. "SEALs also make their own choices, but thank you for telling me." He looked at G. "If you're comfortable with the decision, then we're good."

Savannah grinned. "Good. I'll see who wants to do what." She put her arms around G's neck and kissed his cheek. "It'll be great. It'll be just like old times, except with babies, although it's not fair. Y'all got spared the night feedings. They sleep through the night now. Okay, off I go."

Derek could see that people were upset, at least some, but at least he and Emily could think clearly. They had gone through this once when Emily had faked her own death and if she could forgive that, he wasn't getting upset over the death of two people he liked, but didn't love.

He'd have to talk to Callen and make sure that he was fine, because once he was, he'd understand that Vance had done what was necessary, but first there was another problem to solve. "House with others or room alone? And how strange it is to have a choice again?" he added, chuckling. "I guess we'll see people's real personalities now."

(Reply to this) (Thread)

Re: Derek/Emily

In a way, Emily felt like she was reliving the previous fall, only from the perspective of someone watching her and Reid try to work things out after her own faked death. If anything, though, her sympathies might have laid with Vance. He did what he had to do in order to protect his people, just like Hotch had.

"You know I moved out of the house I was renting and into an apartment at home, right?" Emily laughed. If there was one thing she wasn't, it was a homebody. Sure, she wanted kids and a family and she'd have that with Derek. But, the part of her upbringing that had included maids had stuck around enough that she didn't like keeping house herself. An apartment was far more her speed. "Practically, I'd say if Sam and Callen end up in a house, which given the look on Savannah's face is likely, we should probably be in the hotel. Just in case. It may not be sharing a house with others, but it puts us in reach if something goes wrong there."

Derek smiled at her. "So we're moving into a small apartment we'll barely be in because of work. Woman, I knew I liked you for your brains." He could admit that he hadn't mentioned his preference, because he didn't want to sound like he was making the easy choice, but he totally was.

After two years with people around, he wanted nothing more than to go home to an empty house. Almost empty. He put his arms around her, kissing her. "From now on, you can come up with all the reasons we do things if you're so brilliant at it. I'll tell Vance so he can start planning."

After reporting her choice to Vance, Claudia returned to where she'd set up camp the night before and growled, catching Eric's attention. Noticing it, she asked, "Are you as honked off as I am at the Director? Because I'm pretty damned totally honked off."

Being lied to wasn't new to her. Artie had made an art form out of it. She'd even been lied to about major life-altering stuff, like her being the next Mrs. Frederick. But the lie about John and Savannah's death went beyond the pale.

Re: Claudia/Eric

For Eric, it was John's death that had affected him most. He'd liked both John and Savannah (it was hard not to) but John was the one who shared his interests and the one he'd spent time with on occasion. He'd been sad to lose him, but loss had been a part of the life here for so long, and he'd worked with Reid and Garcia too. He'd been friends with Ash, he still missed Abby on occasions (at least the Abby he'd known from back home), as well as Kensi.

Which might be why he was one of the few not pissed off at the director right now. Or maybe that had more to do with being used to the secrets and the 'need to know'? As well as a trust that the Director would not have lied if it wasn't in their best interest. Instead he was just glad that John and Savannah were alive.

He put away the computer when Claudia spoke, leaning forwards and resting his elbows on his knees. "I understand why people are, hell if John or Savannah were that close to me maybe I'd be too," he said. "But I also get why he did it."

"So what would you have done in his place? To protect Savannah and John, the group, this place and your plans, making sure nothing leaks to the government. What would your decision be?" Eric asked out of pure curiosity.

He wasn't convinced the Director's decision had been for the best, but he couldn't say that it hadn't been either. In truth he didn't think much about it. The Director always had his own agenda and his own plans that he shared with no one, and Eric was used to working that way. He knew the things he needed to know, he didn't know the ones he didn't need to know.

Feeling his hands itch he grabbed a pen and started playing with it, letting it grow heavier and lighter in his hand, sometimes letting size follow, sometimes letting it keep its size.

"Not that I don't get why Callen punched the Director, and I'm almost surprised Brian or John hasn't attempted the same yet, but I can also see the reasoning behind the decision since we were watched and listened to 24/7." Unless it came to computers, but that was another thing.

"What do you think of the island, though?" he asked. He'd been out in the crack of dawn for once, checking in the beach and the waives. He couldn't wait to get his hands on a surfing board and get out there. "Have you seen the waives?"

After months on the campaign trail, living in buses and hotel rooms, Elaine wanted a house, a real one that she didn't have to share with anyone. If it were just her and her mother, they would have to settle for two hotel rooms, but there was a way to obtain a house.

She went to Bud, staring at him. It wasn't like they really needed this conversation. They had been playing games, political and non, for too long. "It would be a practical arrangement. It is in no way an invitation to sharing a bed. You understand that, right?" She said. "You will help with chores or Mother will make sure that you never find a drop of alcohol ever again. If there's any to begin with in this God forsaken place. Is that agreeable?"

Bud knew how to get his ex-wife to do things that he wanted. They had to be her idea. He couldn't suggest them. Granted, his own ego would often get in the way and he'd be the one to suggest things. But, this time he had controlled his ego, perhaps because he genuinely missed living in the same house with her.

"That is understood," Bud nodded, even though he was confident that the arrangement would change over time. "I'll pull my own weight." And he would do so not just because he wanted alcohol -- and he knew Margaret would be successful in denying it to him -- but because he wanted Elaine to know he was actually a changed man.

"Who gets to pick their room first?" He asked with a childish grin.

Elaine looked at him for a moment, as if trying to decide if he was lying on not, but Bud was too much of a skilled liar for anyone to figure it out. She should know. She'd believed his lies plenty of times.

"Good, or I'll sic Mother after you and you know how much she likes you. She'll convince one of those young men to drop you in the middle of the ocean." Her mother was really good at making people like her as well.

"I don't know. If you want to clean the bigger room, then go ahead. Feel free to have it. Considering the furniture or lack thereof, you can have first pick," she said, smirking.

Elaine stepped closer and lowered her voice. "I emailed the boys when we were in Vegas. I told them of the move, but I haven't heard anything yet."

"Oh, Sugar," Bud said with honesty in his voice, "I learned not to cross your mother a very long time ago." At least not on serious shit like this, he thought. He did enjoy poking Margaret's buttons every once in awhile just to see her reaction. He really couldn't ask for a better mother in law.

Bud's face involuntarily contorted at the word clean. It wasn't so much that he hated doing it. It was that he wasn't used to doing it, even though he had been here for two months. "My, how the mighty have fallen..."

His face lit up at her mention of the boys. He missed them. It was true. "Ungrateful asses," he mumbled.

Bud rubbed his forehead. "This was an interesting move by Vance. Moving us back to base even though we knew Allen was term limited and there would be an Administration shakeup even without a change in party." He rubbed the side of his face, the way he often would when trying to work something out.

"That's because you are a smart man, who values his private parts," she said, chuckling. If people thought they were tough, they should have had her mother for president.

She patted his shoulder. "We'll be okay... well okay, even if we haven't really cleaned since law school." Of course the gently touch turned into a smack when he went on. "Ungrateful asses? Is that the only thing you can say?" I'll let you know what they say when they answer."

The change wasn't surprising either. "He was preparing as much as he was trying to help." She had to admire that. She understood the desire to help, while admiring the rootlessness of the plan. "You have to admit that it took balls to do what he did. I like him."
