RP: April and Nell
Who:April and Nell
Where: The hall of their wing
When: August 18
Summary: April wants to talk to Nell

Being woken by Nell's screams the other night had reminded April of Jackson's nightmares back home. She wondered if he was getting better or if she was still having them - and still pretending he didn't. It had also made her decide to talk to Nell, after giving her some distance and time. Today she figured was as good time as any, and since Nell wasn't someone you could ever find alone, she approached her in the common room.

"Hi, Nell," she asked. "Could I have a word with you alone?" she asked, hoping she'd agree.

Nell had grabbed a seat near the window after breakfast, propped up her laptop, and settled in to spend the day sifting through chatter with a bag of sunflower seeds. Chatter was as entertaining and engrossing as a novel for Nell. There were stories being told and plotlines unfolding. And it was real. The stakes were real, no matter who was involved. Not that Nell didn't like a good book now and then, but people were far more fascinating in the wild, as it were.

Looking up, she smiled as April approached her. "Hey, April. Sure." She frowned slightly, thinking of places they could talk alone. She wasn't sure what April could want to discuss with her that required privacy, but Nell could go with it. "How about we take a walk?" She suggested, glancing in the Director's direction for his nod of approval. "It's a nice day out."

"A walk would be nice," April said, waiting for Nell to put her laptop down and come with her out.

"There are actually two things I wanted to talk to you about," she said as they came outside. "The first is about Nate."

"We just found out it was his birthday now last Thursday and Eliot is making a cake, but I was wondering if you could help with the decoration of it? He might not think his birthday is worth celebrating, but everyone should have something, even if it's just a cake and people saying happy birthday" she said.

"Cool." Setting the laptop to purge and shutdown, Nell rolled up the bag of seeds and put it in the messenger bag she was using as a cushion to lean back against. When the laptop shutdown, she slid that into the bag as well and stood up. "Shall we?"

Surreptitiously touching the holster at her back to make sure she had her gun on her, she followed April outside. "Two things. Sure. Fire away."

Listening to the first, she wasn't exactly sure why they needed privacy for this. But, Nell could go with it. "Sure, what kind of decorating were you thinking of and by when? basic buttercreams and ganaches should be easy. any kind of sculpture or chocolate work will require an order. I don't keep the ingredients on hand normally. He won't mind, will he? I mean, if he was keeping a secret, he won't mind people making a deal of it, would he?"

"Basic will do more than well, especially since it's after the fact. Eliot said he'd make the cake today, so I was thinking tomorrow? Is that enough time?" she asked. "And no, he won't mind," she said with a smile. "I don't even think he was keeping it a secret, more like he forgot the date." She still didn't get it, how could you forget your birthday, but she wasn't getting into that again.

Nell nodded. "Buttercream and ganache, got it. Tomorrow shouldn't be too difficult. But, what kind of decorations are you looking for? I don't really know Nate all that well. I doubt he's the big flowers and lace kind of guy."

April laughed. "No, not really," she agreed. "He's more into chess, culture, art, politics, those kind of things," she said. "I was thinking something simple and classy."

"Simple and classy. So, nothing Muley Hassan inspired. Got it." It was better than nothing, if a little vague. But, Nell could work with it. "Okay, I can manage to come up with something by tomorrow. No problem. You said their were two things?"

"Thank you," she said. She did feel a bit responsible for Nate. He was Eliot's family and by extension therefore a part of her own. She didn't know him all that well and there were things about him that made her hesitate at times, but he was important to Eliot and in the end that was all she needed to know.

She nodded when Nell asked about the other thing. "I wanted to check up on you," she said. "After the other night." She looked out over the grounds, then back at Nell.

"I know what it's like waking up from a nightmare and realizing you've woken people up. After the attack, I had constant nightmares, when I could sleep at all. It got better, but then Kensi died, and that night I woke up screaming with both Nick and Eliot at full alert in my room."

"I suppose all I wanted to say was that if you ever feel that you want to talk to someone other than your friends, then I'm here and more than willing to listen."

Nell had known it was too good to be true to think she'd get away with no one commenting on what had happened the other night. But, she also had no intentions of sharing.

"The other night? You mean my bad dream?" Nell shrugged. "I had a bad dream. People get them occasionally. Okay, so most people don't turn themselves into a mummy," she added with a laugh. "But, I'm a restless sleeper. Just ask Troy or Sean. Even on a good night I sleep like a dog, always kicking. But, thanks, though. I appreciate the offer even if it's unnecessary."

"As long as you're okay," April said, hoping for Nell's sake that she was telling the truth and it really was just a bad dream. Maybe she was too influenced by her memories of Jackson pretending everything was fine when they weren't and now she was reading too much into things? Or maybe she wasn't and Nell just didn't want to talk but if that was the case that was still her prerogative.

"You're welcome, it was an easy offer to make." She smiled.
