Summary: Leon has a few things to explain before their weekend starts
They had left the base early enough that the sixty mile ride had only taken an hour and twenty five minutes. Anywhere else, this might have been slow, but for New York, it had been some kind of miracle. Once they got to the State Park, they arranged for the two cabins. A few questions had confirmed what they had suspected: the park was almost empty, and they were able to rent two cabins far away from the other four that had been rented. They paid in cash before going to the cabin area.
"Fifteen minutes to get settled and I want everyone back here," Leon said.
He let everyone do their own things while he looked around. These days, his gun was always loaded, but at least here, it was unlikely that anyone would have to use one. The foliage was thick despite the season and would prevent any long range surveillance. There was snow on the ground that would let them know if anyone got close for any reason. There was also the fact that no one had been told in advance, making it impossible for anyone to get here before them and bug the cabins, and he was sure that he hadn't been the only one making sure that they weren't being tailed on the way up.
When finally everyone was back outside, Leon started to speak. "I'll keep this brief. There have been some situations lately, people unhappy about the situation. So I thought I'd clear a few things for everyone. There are laws passed by this Congress that make anyone coming from another dimension an enemy of the state unless he or she actively helps this government. Helping means being part of ICIS. If anyone refuses to work for ICIS or decides to quit, that person will be handed over to the military authorities and be dealt with by a military court and sentenced in a military prison. So it's time that you all start acting like adults and understand the risk you are in, because I will not sacrifice ICIS and all the people here, because some would like things to be run differently. The truth of the matter is that even if we cooperate we're still in danger."
He nodded toward Garcia that started handing out memory cards. "There are encrypted files on those cards. You'll find the names of members of Congress and the administration that have been very outspoken against us being allowed to stay free, or as outspoken as they can be about a secret project. I want all of you to know the names and watch out when there's any interaction with them or their staff. Also remember that the fact that they are outspoken only means that there are others who do it secretly. John, Garcia, find me anything you can about these people. Anything they buy, every place they go, I want to know about them, their aides, wives, husbands, children, lovers, mistresses, anything you can dig up, I want to know. Morgan, give me a profile on every one of them. Kinney, look at their campaigns, speeches and policies, and give me a way to combat their rhetorics.
"If anyone still has any doubts, we are in a war for survival in this dimension, which is why I asked Agent Callen to prepare everyone for this. Again, it seems that some of you don't think that surviving is important enough. I suggest you reevaluate your priorities. However, since we have cases now and we can't afford to have you in classes all day long, we are changing things. We're forming two teams. Hanna, Deeks, Monroe, you report to Agent Callen. Caffrey, Morgan and Westen, you report to Agent Burke. Kepner will cover all medical related matters; Sciuto, forensics and ballistics; Garcia and Baum, anything computer and communications. The four of you will work cases for both teams. Unless specifically told, you report to the agent giving you a given assignment or the lead agent for that case, meaning Callen or Burke. You do not report to anyone else unless you have been told to report to someone else. Kinney, you've become our liaison and communication agent. Anytime a team needs to deal with local PD or anyone for that matter, I want you there." And sober, he mentally added, but then they could work with him later on that. "You report to Hetty. She'll also provide you with the wardrobe necessary for the job. Agent Callen is still in charge of training."
Leon stopped and looked at everyone. "These changes mean that there will be less time spent in classes. However, you are still responsible for passing the PFT and the gun qualification test. You will pass those tests and you will carry a gun outside of the base. That is not up for debate. In fact, you should learn to have a gun on you at all times, two if possible. We will go home, but until we do, we can't let our guard down. Our enemies might be a lot closer than we think and the criminals we hunt are not the real threat. I hope you enjoy the weekend and when you come back, you are ready to get some work done."
