RP: A Few Casual Interviews
Who: G Callen, Mike Renko, Jenna Hanna, Troy Bolton, Alexis Castle
Where: All over the ranch
When: Tuesday, March 27, 2012 -- all day
Summary: G talks to a few people to assess training needs

The director liked his office and his meetings. G preferred being out with his team and seemingly casual conversations. For most everyone he had a good idea of what they could and couldn't do at this point. They'd been training as a team with their power for long enough what he hadn't seen he could extrapolate.

Still, there were a few people who had newly come into their powers or who had seen changes recently that he needed to assess before they went forward with any further training. And, now that they'd explained the day before about the new ruling on not training with powers outside group training or with G's supervision or approval, he wanted to make sure he touched base with those he had less firsthand experience with their powers.

That hadn't been what Jenna had meant, and she looked a bit sheepish at the comment. "No, that wasn't what I meant," she said with a small smile. "I'm sure you can contribute other aspects of things than Dom." Though she did think few were more suited than Dom for interpreting and dealing with these powers.

"Not much, so far. I've tried a few times and failed, tried a few times and succeeded." she hesitated for a moment, because this was personal on a level that he didn't understand. She knew exactly why she'd changed that first time, exactly what her thoughts had been and explaining why would be to open up and show her feelings of insecurity and inadequacy, but then chances were that her father had already shared that. Still when she spoke she purposely didn't mention that first time but concentrated on other occasions.

"The times I succeed is usually when I think of or imagine becoming a part of something, the chair, the sofa, or whatever it might be," she explained. "Most times I've tried I've turned partly, the part that is in contact with the material in question, and only entirely on a couple of occasions. It's harder and require more concentration and focus." She didn't add that being upset had made it extremely easy. "And no it hasn't happened spontaneously since then." She wished that she was better at undercover work, because as factual as she was, she didn't think he wouldn't pick up on her feeling uneasy.

G smirked softly and shook his head. "It's fine. I get what you mean. I'm not the comic book aficionado nor scientific genius Dom is. I'm also not your husband," he added with a wink. "I am the strategist and trainer, however, which is why I wanted to talk to you and get a feel for where you're at with this. I'm not expecting a lot since it's still very new and most of these things take time to get control over."

He could tell there was something going on, something making her hesitate in her responses. But, he wasn't sure if it was because of something personal or something he needed to know that could prove potentially dangerous in her use of the power. As usual, he erred on the side of caution with these things. "Jenna? Is there something you're not telling me that I need to know? Something about how this power works or what effect it's having on you?"

Jenna sighed, and she really needed to get into the under cover training sooner rather than later. She didn't want to lie, but she wasn't exactly comfortable sharing her weaknesses either.

"No," she said. "Not really. Everything I say was true. Strong emotions seem to make it easier...that's what happened the first time. It was the emotions that triggered the thoughts of becoming the chair and that triggered the change. It's still what I think that seem to be creating the actual change."

"You have to want it," G stated simply. That was what it boiled down to, he thought. She had to want it badly enough, to blend in, disappear, not stand out. She had to want to fade into the background. "Jenna, you ought to know by now I'm not going to pry into what you're feeling. Never have yet, not going to start."

He leaned forward, tilting his head to keep eye contact. "It's not unusual for strong emotions to trigger that first use of the powers. Look at what happened with your brother when his came through. But, in most cases that stops with control. I think your first assumption is correct; your ability runs more toward a chameleon's camouflage than Savannah's ability to actually change form on a molecular level. Try keeping emotion out of the mix when you work with it. Focus on changing because you want to change and if you feel yourself sliding into that emotional place where you want to hide indiscriminately, stop. Get up. Move. Let go. Whatever you have to do to stop the change, do it until you change because you want to not because you're being controlled by an emotional response.

"And keep your practice to times when Dom's around until we're a hundred percent sure there aren't changes happening to your body we're unaware of at the moment, Okay?"

Jenna looked at him as he said he wouldn't pry into her feelings, and for that she was grateful. "I appreciate it," she said, though it didn't take a scientist to figure out why she'd have thoughts of becoming the chair. Still, she did appreciate him not prying.

She nodded as he mentioned Sean. She'd thought of Sean's first show of power a lot of times since her own had manifested itself. The feelings behind it were remarkably similar but while Sean had started to reconnect with their father, she felt further away from him than she ever had in her life. Yes he'd been gone a lot as they grew up and she too had missed him and his attention and it had made her try to become what she thought he'd be proud of. Yet she'd also been certain that he loved her, and that he was proud of her. It wasn't until they got here that she started to question herself, that she started to realize that her father might not have wished for her to be different. She didn't like that feeling of insecurity, it wasn't something she was used to.

But now she could focus on something else, on this conversation. "I don't think there is a large risk of it happening that way again, even when I'm angry I can avoid those thoughts, but if I feel it coming on I will certainly take your advice." She did want full control of this. She could see the use, in some situations, to make herself not seen so that she could get away from a situation, or possibly mimic an indestructible material and shield Blaze with her body, but most of the time she was more likely to draw her gun and start shooting. She wasn't overly fond of these powers, and she didn't think she'd use it much - if at all - once she had control of it. At least not outside training.

She nodded at the last part. "Yeah, that goes without saying. I don't really feel like turning into wood or fabric permanently."

G refrained from sighing at the brush off, wondering if Jenna realized the way she spoke often sounded like dismissal, or if she was just trying a little too hard to be polite, formal, or unaffected.

"Right then. Focus on getting control for now and once that happens, we'll see if we can't find some creative ways to use this power of yours." Standing, offered a slight smile. "I should go muster up something in the way of food before heading back to training and you'd probably like me out of your hair so you can see to Blaze."

G stooped down to touch Blaze's hand in farewell before taking his leave and heading back to his own place to get lunch.
