RP: Nick/Anyone
Who: Nick/Anyone who might be looking
When: 1-21-12, afternoon
Where: Out in the field, on the farm
Summary: Sam should've known better.

Nick woke up at the decent hour of noon on Saturday. He loved the weekends. After cleaning the bathroom and eating lunch, he threw on his jacket and told April that he was going outside to practice.

He waved at Eliot and Tim on his way into the pasture, past all the cattle standing around munching hay. It was windy outside, but it didn't bother Nick as he trudged further and further away from the main buildings into the wide-open fields. He finally decided on a spot where he could still see the houses and buildings but wouldn't be bothered.

Folding himself into the crunchy brown grass, Nick started practicing making tiny things again. Proportional ants, flies, and moths. Getting them to form took concentration but he could do it. Getting them to move at that size made it feel like he'd been smacked in the head by a baseball bat.

Of course, as time passed, Nick got bored, and the animals got bigger. He let his mind work through zoo animals, keeping them formed for as long as possible as he added more varieites. Soon, surrounding him were elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, gorillas, penguins, polar bears, and seals. They wandered around for a bit before the carnage erupted. Making realistic looking blood and guts took as much concentration as the little guys.

Nick eventually gave up on the animals and went to design more fun things, like tanks. He worked hard to get it right from the movies and pictures he'd seen. He got two of them up and then wondered if he could make a fighter jet, too. Excited and popping off small uncontrolled bursts of light, Nick went to work on the jet.

Once crafted, the jet took flight, flying low over the field as far as he could make it, towards the houses and back in his direction. He put the tanks in motion, trying to make them aim at the jet as it circled the range. It was hard making it all work at once; his mind divided between the activities as well as keeping the light-creations appearing solid and exacting. It helped that it was so cool.

"Come on, guys, there isn't much time before you're blasted by the jet," Nick urged on the tanks. The tanks trundled and swung the turret-thing. The jet circled back and released a barage of light-bullets one of them. Too bad he couldn't make noise, except with his mouth. Which he did. "Pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop, clink clink clink, ping."

Covering a hand over his mouth, he turned into the fighter pilot. "Enemy engaged. Swinging back around to take fire a second time." The jet banked by the houses again and came towards him and the tanks. "Targeting..."

The jet fighter released another barage of faux bullets at the tank he'd previously shot at, with more sound effects. "Pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop!" Nick worked to make it appear as if the tank was really getting struck.

As the fighter flew past towards the open field again, Nick had the second tank get a bead on the jet. The tank fired off a shell. Nick realized, as the shell sailed through the air, he'd forgotten there'd be kickback on the tank. He'd fix that next go around.

The shell flew with trails of fire behind it and missed the jet as it maneuvered quickly. Nick's hand went over his mouth to play the pilot again. "Ha-ha! You suck ass, tank jockeys." He made the jet bank and head back in his direction. This power rocked!

"Yeah, I can shape it. I can make these, can't I?" Nick motioned at his tank and fighter. "Black is easier. There's no other color."

Perked by the new challenge, Nick formed a bazooka in his arms and used it to blow up the fighter jet. He grinned widely at the second explosion and rain of debris. Letting it fade away along with the heavy firearm, he folded himself into the grass and looked up at her, studying her intently.

After a minute or so, he began to build her from the feet up until a replica of April stood next to the real one. It wasn't exact, but it would fool anyone passing by. He grinned, pleased. "There."

April smiled. "I meant more like streamline it so that it became more of a second skin, but point taken. I suppose you couldn't see out of one of those."

She watched the bazooka appear, shoot, vanish as the debris of the fighter jet did the same, but that wasn't as interesting as seeing a replica of herself standing next to her a few minutes later. "That is a very strange thing to see," she said, staring at it before turning towards Nick again. "Impressive."

The April-double gave April two thumbs up and a big smile. "People are harder than animals. More unique," he said. He closed his eyes and pictured Eliot, and then made him appear beside the faux-April. Light-Eliot looked nothing the same - shorter, stockier, with a huge scowl, over-sized Elton John sunglasses, and madman hair. "See?"

The figure that was supposed to look like Eliot had April stifling a laugh. She did not want Nick thinking she was laughing at him, but the way he saw Eliot was funny. "Yes, I see what you mean," she said.

"Can you make him a few inches taller?" she asked. "And with smaller glasses and slightly less hair, or at least a bit more... tamed, I suppose is the word I'm looking for."

Nick concentrated, working on the alterations. Taller worked, and he was able to get the sunglasses looking more like Aviator than Flamboyant Rock Star, but the hair... "His hair always looks like that."

Now April couldn't help but to laugh, because that was too cute. "No sweetie, it doesn't," she said. "Only when he's coming in from a ride," she said. "Otherwise it's a bit less frazzled and..." she searched for the right word. "Relaxed. It's hard to explain, but you can study it when we get home and you'll see that I'm right. If you do you'll notice that his scowl isn't really that big or severe either, when he's not making a point of pretending that it is."

"Relaxed hair? How does hair relax?" April was weird.

Bored with light-Eliot already, Nick turned him into a zombie by melting most of his face off. The zombie shuffled towards light-April and real April. Light-April put her hands on her hips and give the zombie the look Nick got when he was in trouble. Zombie-Eliot stopped, spun around, and took off running in terror until he poofed from sight.

Chuckling, she tried to think of a way to explain what she meant. It wasn't easy because she wasn't one to normally put words to describe people's hair, but before she'd thought of a way to explain the light illusion of Eliot changed and April had to laugh at what followed.

"I'm that scary?" she laughed. "I'll remember that the next time there are soldiers around. Perhaps I can scare them away by putting my hands on my hips." What really struck her, though, was how much the expression on the face of the light version of her reminded her of her mother. Was that really how she looked or was it more Nick's perceived image of her? Still that expression coupled with that stance had her mother written all over it.

When had she turned into her mum?

Nick laughed. He could so see her doing that, and if the soldiers were smart they'd be quaking in their boots.

Getting to his feet, he declared, "I'm hungry. Are there any leftovers?" Light-April faded away.
