RP: Thanksgiving Day
Who: Everyone
Where: Team rec house
When: November 24, 2011
Summary: Thanksgiving dinner

Savannah had been up relatively early (but still later than usual), making sure that everything was ready, visiting different people in case they needed help with the food.

At 11:00 am, they had their game. It was fun and not as competitive as the Easter game. Three pregnant women and the director seemed to make everyone extra careful. Even Tim didn't block as he knew, because there was no way that picking her up and blowing a raspberry against her neck was suddenly in the rules. Still the sun was out, they weren't working and everyone was having fun.

They played for a little over an hour and then back home to shower and get ready and then the rec house. "Brian, what have you done?" she asked, eyes glistening as she got inside the first floor apartment.

"Do you like?" Brian answered. All the furniture had been moved into what were supposed to be the bedroom. In the living room, there was a giant table that took the length of the room and wide almost as much, leaving enough room for the door and for people to walk by. "Since we can't find a table big enough, I got some plywood, some 2x4 to make plenty of legs and screwed everything together, and we all know how good I am with screwing."

Savannah snorted, but it was perfect, because they'd never find a table for forty people and this was big enough to accommodate even more arrivals. The chairs were simple folding chairs and the plywood ha been covered by vinyl tablecloths with thanksgiving designs. It was perfect.

Slowly everyone arrived and they were finally sitting down for dinner. "I'd like to say grace before we start," she said, looking around and eyes locking with G for a moment, and she smiled at him.

"Lord, we thank you for all the food you have given us. We thank you for bringing us together during this past year, keeping us safe, and giving us love and friendships that we never expected. We're very thankful for our parents and lovers, for our brothers and sisters, for these three children you have granted us, for all the family and friends sitting at this table and for the opportunity to being together. Amen." It was simple, short, and some people might not agree, but whether anyone admitted it or not, they were friends, bound together. They were family.

Stepping close, April took his arm and squeezed it. "What kind of things?" she asked. "You know you can talk to me. Heavens know I have dumbed things on you lately, it's only fair that I return the favor."

She thought about it. "I can't offer any Tequila with the conversation, but I have been told I'm a good listener."

Damn it. Eliot hated having friends. "April...," he growled. He didn't realise he sounded more like a whinging puppy. He huffed out another sigh. "It's a sight thing. Can we leave it at that?"

If it was meant to put her off, it didn't. The whining tone and the deep sighs just had her more convinced that what he needed was to talk it out. The comment itself only had her more worried. "Eliot," she said softly. "You only just lost your sight, it's natural that you're reacting to it emotionally. No one is expecting you to have moved past it already. I've told you this before - you're pushing yourself too hard. Cut yourself some slack."

She squeezed his hand gently. "Now what happened to trigger it?" she asked, not in the least letting things go. "And I know you're one of the people who hates to talk about emotions, but this is me, I'm not going to tell anyone or think any less of you, and talking helps. If for no other reason than the fact that you sort things out in your own head when trying to explain it to someone else."

Eliot glowered, but answered anyway. She would prod in her nice way until she got it out of him anyway. "It's this new setup of Callen's. It's twisting the knife of an already shitty situation."

April frowned, worried about him. "How?" she asked, not sure what about it that was affecting Eliot like this. "Could you give me a bit more elaboration? I want to understand what it is that is upsetting you this much."

"I'm supposed to be some sort of field support now." Eliot snorted. "I'd rather be back on total inactive duty than stand around like a gormless dick in the ops center. I'm a fighter, and when need be a grifter for a con, that's it."

Now it was April's turn to sigh, because she could understand the difficulties he'd have accepting that he couldn't do everything he could before. "Eliot, I'm sorry," she said, hugging him hard.

She could try to make it feel better by explaining, by trying to tell him all the valid reasons they had to have for their decision, but she knew it wouldn't do him any good so for once in her life she opted for being silent. What he needed was her support, nothing else, no matter how logical.

When she let him go she still touched his arm. "I wish there was something I could do to make it better," she said, because in spite of everything she wanted to say, she doubted Eliot wanted to hear any of it.

"Yeah, well..." Eliot trailed off with another grunt. He hated this and there wasn't anything that could be done about it. "I have beer and football waiting for me at the apartment. You coming?"

April looked back at the house they'd just left, and she hated just leaving but Eliot needed her company more right now so she nodded. "Sure. Let's go," she said. She could text Nick that she'd gone with Eliot so that he knew where to find her and apologize to Savannah for leaving tomorrow. Tonight she was spending time with a friend who needed her company.
