Summary: Tyra has a chat to Alexis.


After talking to Troy at lunch, Tyra decided to stop by Major Crimes in the afternoon and watch what was going on there. Since her week revolved around settling in, she thought that getting to know the set-up of the different teams and the people within them wasn't a bad idea. She hadn't gone near the OSP team... She kinda thought they were hardcore and probably wouldn't welcome the intrusion. However, she didn't know about Major Crimes really and so thought she'd try her luck there.

Derek seemed pretty relaxed about her presence there and welcoming and so she stayed for a while, watching them work together. Her eye was drawn to the redhead who looked around sixteen, seventeen and after a moment, she recalled that Derek had introduced her as Alexis. The Alexis who wasn't sure if she liked Tim or Spencer Reid, which was another guy in the room. She seemed pretty but young and Tyra wondered if this was another Becky in the making or something different.

Tyra had been very good, especially for her, and she hadn't even mentioned what Savannah let slip to Tim but this was really too good an opportunity to pass on. Tyra didn't think she could tease her friend untll she knew a bit more about the girl than just her name and it would be interesting to see how other people viewed somebody she'd known her entire life.

When they had a small break, she got up from where she'd been sitting and made her way over. "Hi," She smiled. "I'm Tyra. Tyra Collette. I hope you don't mind me coming over, I just want to introduce myself to people, get to know them a little before Thanksgiving tomorrow."

Alexis smiled to the new girl, Tim's friend, the one that looked like a model. "Hi, I'm Alexis and of course I don't. It's really nice to meet you, although I'm sure you wish we hadn't. It can't be easy arriving here so close to the holidays."

She turned toward Tyra, folding her legs under her and leaning against the armrest. "So what did you do before coming here? You were a model, weren't you? You certainly look like one. You're beautiful, and I love your hair. It's so nice."

"I did think I would be on my way home right now," she admitted with a small frown, pushing her hair back behind her ear. "But, on the bright side, at least I'm not here on my own and it's good to know where Tim is. It just sucks that we can't go back, his brother misses him and he never got to meet the twins. That'd be a perfect Thanksgiving."

Tyra sat down and couldn't stop a surprised look from coming on her face when Alexis mentioned being a model. She was tall enough, she knew that was true, but Tyra had seen the fashion magazines and she knew she looked nothing like the girls in there. "You thought I could be a model? Really?" she asked, clarifying she'd heard right. "Your're sweet, truly, but no, I was at UT in my third year before coming here. Majoring in government."

"How about you? Are you from around here?" she asked. "You seem pretty young if you don't mind me saying so... Are you still at school? Or were you, I guess."

"No, you're here with thirty something people," she said, chuckling. "I'm glad you know about Tim, and yeah, it sucks. I miss my dad and my grandmother. He must be so worried. I bet he is everyone in NYPD looking for me. I feel sorry for the Mayor and the Commissioner. Knowing dad, he probably calls them daily."

Alexis nodded. "Especially now that they are trying to stop the anorexic look. God, it's so ugly and unhealthy. But I guess you're right, I shouldn't have thought that, you look much better than most of them anyway." She smiled. "Government, nice. Did you want to go into law enforcement or administration? I mean the second one can be a lot more rewarding, but the politics around it can be so tiring. I know all the campaigning that went to elect the Mayor. One more fund raiser and I thought my dad would explode."

She knew that she looked young, and she was, but she couldn't let that bother her. "I'm from New York, yes, but I was going to start my first year at Stanford. I'm seventeen. I graduated early from high school. Now, I'm a federal agent with a badge. At least I'm working with Derek now. I was with OSP until last week and I didn't like it at all. The people were nice enough, but I don't like the work."

"We looked for Tim for months but figured he didn't want to be found in the end. It just didn't seem right, not after everything," She looked across at her friend and sighed. Tim really had deserved his happy ending after all the shit he'd gone through, mostly uncomplaining. "But we are where we are, right? Nothing we can do about it."

"I don't really read too many of those magazines," They were expensive and while Tyra had financial aid for college, she didn't want to spend it needlessly. "But yeah, they're pretty thin. Could do with a decent meal or ten."

"I wasn't sure yet. There was this teacher in Dillon, Mrs. T and she was the one who inspired me. I think I'd like to do something around education but I haven't really investigated it yet, I had a lot to think about. Internships were helping me narrow it down. I went to a couple of fundraisers in Austin, they were fun. Different to raising money for anything football-related back home, that's for sure," she added, grinning.

"What didn't you like about the work?" she asked, a bit wary. Savannah had said that Tyra was her replacement and she wasn't sure if that meant in OSP too. "Wow, you graduated early? And Stanford?" So the girl was super-intelligent too. "That's pretty awesome."

She didn't have to ask to know that the police wouldn't be out in force to look for Tim. Connections worked no matter where you lived. "What do you mean after everything?" That confused her, because you'd think that they'd look for Tim regardless. "My dad helped the Mayor get elected and they are friends. He also helps the NYPD, so I'm sure he's driving everyone nuts and he still can't do anything about it."

Alexis chuckled. "I don't buy them, my grandmother does. She's an actress. That's my dad's mom. My mom is an actress too. I'm surrounded by them."

She scrunched her nose. "I've gone to a few fundraisers with my dad, the gowns, the polite lies, the false compliments. They aren't that much fun, but yours were probably different. The music was usually the best part with a lot of string quartets."

Alexis thought about Nate and sighed. "I get what they want us to do, but that's not me. If I see a killer, I'm not going to run after him. I'll go the other way. I'm not really interested in going after criminals, no matter how well trained I am." She nodded. "It's not really difficult. I went to a prep school, with lots of help, and yes Stanford. My boyfriend was going there.... We picked the same school because long distance relationships don't work out and now- I went slightly farther than I wanted to."

Tyra hadn't known if Tim had said anything about prison but now she knew, she wasn't going to say a word. "Oh, nothing. It's just he bought some land, was going to build a house on it. It just didn't feel right when he left, he loves Texas. Seemed an effort to go through buying that land just to leave it."

"My mom liked the gossip magazines," she admitted with a smile. "Actresses? That's awesome. Would I have seen them in anything or were they more theater actresses?"

"Oh, I was at the ones in Austin mostly to observe, I didn't have to do anything. One of my friends scored us invites and our professor encouraged us to go and meet people," she explained. "Panther ones were different. A lot of food, a lot of football players, dancing. Not a string quartet in sight, I'm afraid.."

"I'm not sure I'm gonna run after a killer either," Her mind flashed back to her and Landry after they'd killed a man. Well, Landy technically but she'd been an accessory and the entire reason for the murder in the first place. No, she was staying well away from killers. She shivered slightly. "You have a boyfriend? What's he like? That must be hard not having him here."

"Yes, I can see that he wouldn't want to leave Texas. He loves it there," she said with a smile. "It's obvious pretty much any time he talks about there or when he talks to Savannah. They start talking and it's like they have their own language. I think if he's not careful Marty will kill him one of these days, but boys aren't the most perceptive when it comes to these things."

Alexis made a face. "No, we don't get those. It's bad enough to see my father's face in the society page of the news. I'm not going to go look for more. My grandmother used to do films when she was younger, now she does theater and she's opening a school in New York," she continued. "My mom is... not good. She does extra work or whatever my dad's connection get her, but it's enough to support her in the lifestyle she's accustomed too. The expensive one."

She laughed. "Yes, they are very different. Ours are the ones where you pay a few thousand dollars to spend the night smiling no matter what happens. I liked the first one. I felt so grown up with my long gown and diamonds. After a while, I told dad to go back to bringing dates that weren't me."

She couldn't blame Tyra. Heck she wouldn't blame anyone. "Then I hope that you aren't in OSP." Not that it had stopped Nate from getting killed. "Had a boyfriend. We're going to be here for years, and as much as I care for Ash, there is no way we can be together again. He is... smart and caring and polite and in another dimension."

"It's weird. Sometimes I hate Dillon but it's home, it's in the blood," she said, smiling. "And even Texas... I don't know if I'd want to actually leave. I like Austin, it's about the right size and it's busy. It's right, was right, for me at the moment. I'm not surprised he wants to- Closeness and Tim looking like he does? I'd probably want to if I was him."

"I've never worn a diamond in my life," she said, not at all envious. She liked the idea of living an expensive life and having everything she wanted but not at the expense of having all the things she liked. And she loved the music, the atmosphere, the fact that people knew each other. Alexis's type of benefit was way off in the future. "I'm sure you looked pretty in your dress though. I can see you wearing something gorgeous."

"Savannah mentioned being her replacement. I'm not sure if that was just for training," She shrugged. "I suppose I'll know when I know."

"That's a shame," she said. "I'm glad I didn't leave anybody like that behind, I'm not sure how I'd have felt about it," Of course, Tim had left her after all that talk about their lives merging together but she'd assumed he'd be back and then had tried to put it out of her mind when he hadn't shown up. "So d'you have anybody here?"

"I'm from New York and I don't mind leaving for schools and trips, but I want to come here, or there... you know what I mean. I like the fact that you can walk everywhere or find that little club that no one knows about, or that you can go to Oceanside and have the best Dim Sum outside of China and Korea, or that you can go to little Italy, or the best designers in the world. You have the best of everything." She couldn't imagine living away from here for any extended period of time.

"Thanks. I've had a few gowns. My dad always buys me the pretty things," she said with a smile, thinking of her prom gown. She knew she got a lot more than most people, but she hoped that she'd kept some touch with reality.

She didn't comment about the work assignments since neither of them would have any say, instead she shook her head. "No, it's just me."

"I know that feeling. Not about the designers so much but about where to go for what and having special places that you feel happy in," she said, smiling. "I've never been to New York before though."

"That must be nice," She didn't remember the last time she'd seen her dad, let alone get anything from him. He'd gone with the oil and she hadn't seen him since. She'd had her mom and Mindy though; the three of them had gotten along just fine.

"I would have thought you might have, you're a pretty girl," Tyra was only probing a little but she wouldn't push. She liked Alexis, she seemed nice if a little too logical. It was obvious that she was in a whole different league to her though, in background, taste and pretty much everything. "Have you been here long?"

"New York is something else. You either love it or hate it. Tim hates it," she said, chuckling. "It doesn't matter how much I tell him that there are great things here, he still talks about Texas."

She nodded. "It is. I love my dad. After they got a divorce, I grew up with him. It's always been the two of us. I miss him."

Alexis sighed. "I... I thought there might be someone, but I don't think so now, and after that, we got the news about the pregnancies and people aren't keen on having relationships of any kind. April, that's the doc, slit up with her boyfriend because of this. I'm making friends, though. It's not as bad as it was in August when I arrived."

"Texas is... New York's in your blood, Texas is in ours, I guess. I'm pretty sure he thought he'd live his whole life in Dillon," she said with a smile. "Maybe you can show me New York one day though. I'd like to go out and see it with a native."

"I miss my momma too," she admitted. "I didn't go home much but I always called her. My sister will be fine, she has Billy - That's Tim's brother - but my dad left and so it was just me, mom and Mindy for a long time."

"Yeah, Savannah told me about that," Tyra still wasn't planning on letting it stop her. She would be careful and she'd be creative. It was fine. "I get why. Marriage is forever, I'm only ever doing it the once." There was no way she was going to be like her mom, going from guy to guy.

Alexis nodded. "Sure, but with people with guns. I mean I have one, but I've already watched one person die in front of me, and I'm not keen on doing it again. Nate was a good guy; he didn't deserve it at all. Not that anyone ever deserves it, but he was genuinely nice."

She smiled as Tyra talked about her family. "It sounds like you are a close family, all of you, Tim too."

She didn't think it was that simple. "Do you? I mean we're assigned houses, and usually they put couples together, but say you break up, you still live with that person, and you work with that person, and he's the one watching your back out there. It's... not as easy, especially when you consider the age differences, the ones that are already together. You don't get to date different people."

"Somebody died in front of you?" She put her hand on Alexis's shoulder instinctively, squeezing it. "I'm sorry, that must have been horrible. Was it long ago?"

"Our backgrounds were pretty similar," she admitted. She'd learned more from Billy than Tim, it wasn't until after they stopped their on-off thing that they became actual friends. "But yeah, we're close. Hard not to be. I hate that Tim hasn't seen the twins. They're so cute."

"No but neither are you assigned one person when you get here and you're told to marry them," she pointed out with a smile. "I don't think you have to date somebody to get to know them, see if you like them. And yeah it's difficult living in such a small community but what's the other option? There isn't one."

"Yes, he was one of us. He was killed by this man who can kill you by making you suffer a heart attack," she said with a sigh. "October 15." She was never going to forget that.

"The twins? What are their names? How old are they?" she asked, because talking about this was better than talking about death.

"No, you aren't, but-" She shook her head. "Nevermind. Maybe it's just me." She didn't think it was as easy as she was saying, but she wasn't going to argue about it, since it might really be easier for Tyra, considering the way she looked.

"That's awful. Is that this guy's super power?" she asked, assuming it probably was. "I'm sorry you had to see that. Seeing somebody die," She almost said 'isn't but stopped herself. "That can't be nice."

"Billy Jr and Brittany. Tim met Stevie but Mindy was still pregnant when he disappeared," she said, smiling at the thought of her niece and nephew. "They were born in July so they're only a few months old. They're very cute and Stevie's getting bigger. He looks more like Billy than Mindy."

"No, go on. Say what you want to say, I won't get offended," Tyra said, frowning. "I just think you can get to know people. There's not many of us like you said."

"Yes, it is and it was. The guy saw me, taunted me. I was lucky to get away. He could have killed me from across the street," she said. "He didn't have to get close to hurt me."

"I'd say someday you'll have a family here, but with how easily it happens, you might not want to hear that," she answered, chuckling.

"I know you can, and I know plenty of people, but there's a difference between friends and boyfriends, and if you look at the people here, they are either together together, as in married or expecting, or they aren't involved with anyone. We'd hear if people were having casual sex. Trust me, we hear everything one way or another, and there's none of that. There are so many military types that they don't want to risk getting involved with others in their unit and the non military... well they seem to acquire that mentality pretty soon."

"I'm glad you're okay," she said, not sure what else to say. "I suppose there could have been two fatalities that day if he can kill without getting close."

"It does seem to be a bit of a hazard," Tyra agreed with a smile. "I do want a family one day though. Just maybe not quite yet."

Tyra raised her eyebrows at the speech but she knew where Alexis was coming from. "I get that, all I'm saying is you can get to know somebody before you date them, decide if you want to get serious before making that move. I never said anything about casual sex," she added with a small smile. "Trust me, I get the difference. And I know that even my way, people will still know or assume things. There's nothing I can do about that though. Good job I have thick skin."

"Thank you. I guess there could have been. He killed others in the past, including another agent," she said with a sigh.

Alexis laughing. "Way too soon for me. I'm only seventeen, barely legal in New York. I can wait a few years, or a decade." Not that she would say that around Savannah. A few years were enough for Savannah.

"Oh I know, except people don't date here. Don't ask me how things have happened, because I don't get it either. I guess because going out means having plans, making sure that it's safe, then possibly have back up. We went for hair cuts and we were divided in groups with leaders. We went to dinner as a group and we had alternative routes, memorized subway lines. It's so aggravating that most people just go to the club and... well everyone is there," she said with a shrug. "So with no dating and since I'm not really ready for that type of commitment and with casual sex not an option at least for me, you can see why it's not that simple."

"I suppose we just have to hope he can be stopped one day, right? Not much more we can do than that, is there?" she asked.

"Yeah, I think you should probably hold off for a while," She giggled. "Unless you want a shotgun wedding. I think there's a few people who could help you with the shotgun part," she added with a wink.

"It's just crazy to me. The exits, routes, groups, all of that," She smiled. "If it's such a pain in the ass to go out, we can have a girls' night instead. Crappy movie, pedicures, face masks, cocktails - do you drink?" she asked. "We should do it. Me, mom and Mindy used to love our beauty days."

"And that's the crux of the matter. We're supposed to stop him. That's what Nate was doing. We're actively looking for him so OSP can go after him and stop him," she said. "So yes, we can do a lot more than hoping. I'm just not sure that I want to do it."

Alexis snorted. "Sam has me shooting sniper rifles. I think I can take care of the shotgun part, but I'm more interested in avoiding it all together."

She grinned. "We used to do that at the spa with Gran, minus the drinking. I don't really like it. I drink some champagne or wine with dinner, but I don't really like it."

"I can understand. Right now I don't think I'd want to hunt down somebody who can kill me," she said honestly. "Especially if I'd seen him kill before."

"They have us training with a SEAL and federal agents- I have no doubt you can handle a sniper rifle," she said, thinking that the idea of Alexis with a sniper rifle was a little scary. She was such a little thing, the recoil off of some of the guns had to be enough to put her shoulder out. "I don't blame you for wanting to avoid it."

"We can get you something else to drink. It would be fun though, or at least like home," She shrugged and smiled. "Let me know. If we can't go out that easily then at least we can do something fun back here. "

Alexis shifted and moved files around, before picking one up. "This is the file on the case." She flipped through the photographs on the left. "These are the man he killed. This is Peter Burke. He was one of the leads here and this is Nate." She flipped on the other side. "These are all camera images of him. They don't show his blue eyes, so... penetrating, black hair, handsome. He looks like he belongs at one of those expensive fund raisers I was telling you about."

"I am a federal agent," she said with a grin. "Not that I want to be one, but I have a badge that says so."

Alexis nodded. "Definitely and it's not about the drinking. It's about spending time together, so yeah, count me in."

Tyra looked at the file the girl had opened, thinking it was a little unnerving to see people who had been here before they were killed. And not even killed in their own dimension. Did this mean their counterpart had had to be killed in their original dimension? "He does. He's handsome. And young," she added in a quieter voice.

"True. You're the youngest here, right? Or is- I spotted a teenager the other day, at least I thought he was. He looked pretty young," she said, not sure how else to describe the kid she'd seen. "Dark hair, green eyes."

"Awesome," she said, her smile widening a little. She looked across at Tim and smirked at Alexis. "Tim better watch out... One step too far into the living room and he'll be wearing a face-mask."

"These pictures don't do him justice," she said. "They are grainy and black and white. You have to see him. He's the type of man that women would fall for and his mannerisms were... like those of a man brought up in a certain social circle. There's no question that he was born in wealth. I don't get why someone like that would kill."

Alexis shook her head. "I was, but Nick arrived right before you. He's sixteen, and you really don't have to give a lot of descriptions. We all know who's who. We have to if we don't want to kill them by mistake because we think they are soldiers spying on us."

She giggled. "I'm sure he's terrified of the idea." She looked at where Tim was talking to Derek. "He's a good guy. He helped me a lot, both with Nate and on September 11. That was hard for me, too. I used to live down there, still do."

"Sounds like most girls' dream man," Tyra didn't think he would have appealed to her, she wasn't such a fan of the polished manners and had no idea how to fit into a social circle above her own but she could see how somebody like Alexis would, born into it like she was.

"There's not too many of us, is there?" She smiled. "Well, you're still the youngest qualified agent, right? That's pretty kickass even if you don't want to be one."

"I don't know... I've seen Tim Riggins in a cheerleader outfit- Best not mention that to Savannah," she said, laughing at the memory and looked at Tim again, smiling softly. "Oh and he had pigtails. That's important. He's a real good guy though, one of the best I know."

"Except for the murdering part," she said with a slight smile. "But no, not most girls' dream man, but most thirtysomething rich women's dream man. The ones who drink champagne as a cocktail and eat foie gras only while in public, and I think Derek is influencing me, but he's asked so many questions about this man that I feel like I know him."

Alexis chuckled. "No, not too many, but yes, I'm the youngest certified agent, although I offered to take the four year course. They said that it would take too long."

Her eyes went wide. "A cheerleader uniform." She giggled again. "That's... I hope you have pictures with you." She grinned and nodded. "I think so too. He's been very sweet with me, from the start."

"So what do you do on this team? Like day-to-day," Tyra asked, deciding that focusing on this Nate guy was upsetting Alexis and she didn't want to make the girl sad. "I thought I might as well spend the week learning outside the classroom if I can't go in it till Monday."

"Seems they're pretty keen to get everybody qualified. I suppose I can't blame them if we're the only people actually looking out for us. I heard the government wasn't all that friendly," she added, explaining.

"Uh huh. He makes a much better looking guy," She giggled along with Alexis. "Sadly no picture but it's burned onto my brain forever more," she confided, remembering high school with a sad smile. "I was transferred here on Monday so I don't know what's normal, but they- we go over the information we have, try to figure out the personality of the UnSub, that's the killer, to try to predict where he'll be and what he'll do. It's like Silence of the Lambs, without talking to the crazy man," she said, chuckling.

"Certified," she said, gently. "Qualification is for your gun. Certification is to become an agent. They are big on names." Alexis nodded. "I understand the reasoning, I still don't like it. Also don't say any of that in the street. They think they have ears to listen to us."

Alexis grinned. "I'm sure he does. He's make one ugly woman," she said, looking at him again with a wicked smile. "He's never been a 'dumbass' with me, and it sounds like you care a lot about him."

"So you do some of this psychological stuff Troy mentioned at lunch earlier?" Tyra asked. "And Derek, he did this before getting here?"

"I'm going to have to start getting these terms right. Thank you," she said for the correction. "Yeah, I guessed as much when you said about soldiers spying and Savannah- Or I think it was her, warned me about what I do and don't say. I can keep my mouth shut though."

"Like I said, burned on the brain. And much more of that and he's going to get paranoid... Keep going, I can tease him later," she said, chuckling.

At the statement she sobered slightly and just smiled. "I do," she said simply.

"Yes, which is really fascinating, especially with them." She looked at the other members of the team. "Derek, Emily and Spencer, they were all in the BAU, that's like the most elite unit in the FBI, and from what I hear, they had the best team. They are brilliant, all of them."

Alexis leaned closer and whispered. "I'll tell you a secret. I don't care about the wording; they do." She smiled as she pulled back. "We even have routine checks of the house to make sure that aren't bugged or have the car radio on when we talk. It's weird."

She chuckled. "No, he thinks I'm a nice girl and nice girls don't do that." It was so nice to talk to someone who wasn't perfect and didn't know everything they were supposed to do. It was normal, even if the idea of Tyra and Tim wasn't something she liked, and she couldn't understand why. Not that she would have blamed Tim; Tyra was gorgeous. "I'm glad for both of you."

Tyra didn't know what BAU meant other than business as usual and she doubted it was that. She chalked it up as something else to ask Tim later.

"I might as well try to get it right but yeah, qualify, certify, it's all so damn similar," she said with a shake of her head, smiling at the way Alexis had leaned in and whispered conspiratorially. "Wow, no radio. That's... Uh. Dedicated?"

Tyra didn't know what to say when Alexis said she was glad for them. As friends? Or more? It wasn't like she'd actually spoken to the man yet about any of the stuff that had happened before he disappeared. Did she mention it to this girl first? She thought not and yet it was confusing the hell out of her.

She decided the best course of action was ignoring it. Completely. "That's alright, he knows I'm definitely not a nice girl," she joked. "Just blame it on me. Now- Seeing as you mentioned string quartets at these fundraisers of yours, do you do this singing thing at the club? Or playing? Because I told Savannah I'd help but I don't really know what I've signed myself up for."

"Oh no, I mean we put the radio loud so people can't overhear while we're in the car. I know it sounds weird and all sorts of wrong, because really who'd want to listen while we're driving in a car, but it's part of those classes, like never go to the same place, don't have a favorite store, restaurant, beverage, or anything so they can't predict what you'll do."

Alexis laughed. "I doubt I'll have to. He wouldn't put me on the spot like that. He's too nice." She nodded again. "I play the violin. I am trained for the classical violin, but I can play by ear. I also sing to help out. It's fun. We rehearse on Saturday morning, and I know it sucks since it's really the only day we have, but you can rest on Sunday."

"Oh right, that makes more sense. I thought you meant in case they had the radio bugged or something," she said with a smile. "They have to take it seriously. Otherwise more people could get hurt by not following their rules, right? I'm a creature of habit but mostly by circumstance. I know where to get everything I want in Dillon and Austin. New York?" She smiled. "Not so much."

"You seem quite good at just about everything if you don't mind me saying it," she said. "Is there anything you're not good at? I'm starting to feel like I did the equivalent of sitting in a dark room with a blindfold on throughout high school compared to you."

"No, it sounds good. I'm not that great at singing but I'm not too bad," she said. "Well, I don't think I am. You guys might think otherwise on Saturday morning. Do we rehearse at the club? What time?" she asked, hoping she'd get a bit of a lie-in. She thought she might make brunch for her roommates but she'd see what time she had to be at practice first.

"That could have been as good a guess as any. I never thought about people driving around with listening devises before coming here." She chuckled. "Or so they say, but they are very paranoid. I got yelled at for always buying the same newspaper and always the one on top, because they could put all sorts of poisons that could kill me by touch, and instead I should buy different papers and picking them randomly from the pile, except I hate messing up the pile."

Alexis shrugged. "My dad, my entire family really is made up of artist. My dad has no rules or anything. He's wonderful, but he wouldn't think twice about giving me alcohol, even when I was little. I decided that one of us had to be the adult, and since my dad wasn't ready to grow up, I was going to be the adult. I tried to do everything and well: school, fencing, violin, trips abroad, volunteering, stage work."

She didn't think that anyone could complain. "If they want better performances, they'll have to sing themselves," she said with wink. "We don't have a set time. Sean is going for the afternoon for this week, so we might all get to sleep in. He's going to email everyone or tell us tomorrow."

"Really? That's- Seems crazy not paranoid," Tyra was shocked. She knew that these people, agents, were security-conscious and everything but not being able to read the same paper. Or having to rummage through a pile in case any were poisoned. That had to border on insane.

"Sounds familiar," Tyra's mom had always been there for her but she had the common sense of a five year old at times. And by times, Tyra meant more than she could count. Mindy had always been there of course but she'd never been the responsible type. If she had been, Tyra doubted her sister would have ever let her drink in the Landing Strip aged sixteen. "The being an adult part. I can relate to that a lot."

"That's true enough but the afternoon sounds better. I need a lie-in after this week," She couldn't wait to sleep as long as she wanted to. "And I'd like to cook, make breakfast for the roommates if they're around to eat."

"Potato, potahto," she said, chuckling. "But yes, nothing that's routine or Sam gets very cranky, and by nothing I mean nothing as in not a single thing. He said that he lived like that at home, with gym membership in four different places, switching cafes, orders. It's crazy."

Alexis chuckled. "Then you know what it's like. I'm a bit of an overachiever too, combined with making sure that I was being responsible, and this is what happens."

She nodded. "I hope we can do it in the afternoon. Savannah was talking about starting Christmas shopping, and we have nothing, trees, decorations, gifts. I think I'll go with her and start. We never have time during the week, so it's just the weekend and we have four weekends left and I want to find the perfect things."

"Four gym memberships?" She chuckled. "Wow, that's some dedication to the cause of staying alive."

"I don't think I was an overachiever. I got a lot further than anybody probably expected though," Tyra smiled at the thought of being at college. It had seemed impossible at sixteen and even on the wait list, she still hadn't thought she was going to get into UT. "I finished high school, that's more than my mom or my sister."

"I haven't even thought about Christmas," she admitted with a small sigh. "But those apartments are going to look pretty bleak without some decorations. What time were you thinking of going? If it's not too early, would you mind if I tagged along or do I have to stay on base being so new?"

Presents were another thing, she thought. What on earth was she supposed to get for two men she barely knew?

Alexis laughed. "I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg if he's complaining about picking up the paper from the top. Sam will go over and over things though so you'll start getting it, or so Savannah tells me, but she must be right, because she was a cheerleader and now, every time she plans something, it's like watching a battle plan."

She couldn't imagine not going to college, let alone not finishing high school. "My dad is a writer, Richard Castle. He writes mystery books, they are doing a movie from his book, and he has his degrees. He paid a fortune for my schools, not finishing high school was never an issue."

She shook her head. "I don't mind and you don't have to stay on base if there are enough agents. We'll tell people tomorrow and see who else wants to come with us."

"You're probably right. I just wish I could get up to speed quicker," She smiled. "I know I've got a lot to learn."

Tyra thought again that she couldn't have met somebody more opposite her in terms of background. Writers, actresses, movie deals and diamonds. That sounded like a film plot to Tyra, not real life, but she smiled politely.

"Sounds good to me. I'll get going and get out of your hair. It was nice to meet you though and let's get a girls night sorted out. Maybe we can widen it out and invite all the women here. Then my roommates might definitely wanna find somewhere else to hang out for the night," she said, giggling. "I'll catch you later."
