RP: Eliot/Auggie/Hardison/Parker
Who: Eliot/Auggie/Hardison/Parker
When: 11-14-11/11-15-11
Where: Bldg 7, 1-C
Summary: Parker's crazy labeling of everything wasn't so crazy anymore

Since the evening had been cancelled, Eliot had been home when a new roommate was dropped off at the flat. He wasn't sure what Hardison and Parker were up to, but Eliot had been listening to a football game on the television. The knock at the door came, and he was introduced to the skeleton that was to be their new roommate. Their new fully blind roomate.

As soon as the escort left, Eliot re-introduced himself his own way. "So they decided to stick the blind people together. Not sure if that's smart or crazy on their part. I'm Eliot, again, the partially sightless one. Sixteen paces from the front door to the kitchen, nine to the right when you feel the floor change and you'll be at the wall that separates the living room from what'll be your bedroom. Face left, go around the wall, and you'll be at the door. It's only got a couch in there right now, on the left wall from the door."

Eliot moved back to his spot on the easy chair in the living room. "From where you're standing, there's the living room couch within arm's reach on your right. Once you check your room and dump your stuff, feel free to explore. There are labels literally everywhere. I'll be in here listening to the game. I've got beer if you want some. Hardison and Parker are... somewhere."

"I've mostly trained Hardison to keep stuff put where it belongs. He's only been here a week and doesn't get the whole 'can't see things' yet. I've been whacking him with my cane as a reminder. Feel free to do the same," Eliot said above the television. "We'll have to share a bathroom, unless you want to share with Parker. She doesn't have much in the way of stuff. There's only three and four of us here."

Eliot found his beer on the coffee table as Auggie wandered around. At least with Parker's labels, Eliot didn't need to pipe in with what was where. Hell, the new guy could probably get on fine without a lick of help once he'd gotten the layout of the place.

Eliot could tell Auggie was in a bad mood, as well. Not that Eliot was the epitome of cheer. He'd been great with it being him, Parker, and Hardison. Having someone new underfoot who didn't understand the language was going to be tough. But he knew it sucked worse for Auggie being dumped into a new dimension so he'd deal.

“Girl, I’m telling you,” Hardison said as he opened the door, holding it for Parker. “If you put a label on me one more time, I’ll make that damn label maker disappear. He knows I’m Hardison and I really don’t want him having a feel for a label if he doesn’t,” he said with a roll of his eyes. “Everywhere I look, damn labels,” Hardison grumbled.

“And I swear, labels and a cane? Most out of date crap I’ve ever seen. I could rig up something that might actually be useful with the insides of a tv and some crazy glue,” Hardison said over his shoulder as they entered the other room.

They’d been told about the new arrival and Hardison gave him a quick once over. “Hey, man,” he said as he stepped up to him. “I’m Hardison,” he added as he extended his hand. Shaking hands was such common place he was just going to go ahead and assume that the new guy would get it rather than try to explain himself like he was some kind of child.

“I try not to make too much of a mess, but,” Alec shrugged. “I have a habit of having cables and junk on every surface, not used to living with a group but I’ll get there.”

And that would be the other two of the group of three that Auggie had been stuck with. He did have to hide a small smirk hearing that apparently one was sticking labels on the other. "They're helpful!" Parker insisted. "Ask Eliot, he likes them. And he needs to know who you are, I have labels too."

He'd been working his way around the space, following the walls and counting his steps - learning the shape of the room first before worrying about the interior, forgoing the cane for the time being since he wanted to learn to move comfortably without it if he was going to be living there.

Another name with another voice, Auggie nodded and he could hear the rustle of fabric that usually accompanied a handshake, and he couldn't help the sort of look he gave Hardison as he extended his own hand away from where he suspected the other man's hand to be, he never did have much of a problem drawing people's attention to his blindness. "August, you can call me Auggie though." He told him.

"I'm sure I won't notice the clutter, unless your habit includes leaving cables on the floor in which case I feel compelled to let you know I can kill you while blindfolded." He told him and grinned.

"Break my label maker and I'll break you," Eliot piped up from over by the television. "I'll also stop feeding you." Eliot was amused, though, by Parker trying to label Hardison.

"The old-fashioned cane has gotten me around so far. If you want to make something better, go ahead." Eliot smirked in Hardison's direction. "Hell, put it in another pair of Oakleys. That'd be a trip."

“I do not need a label!” He repeated, shaking his head at her. “Both of you are as bad as each other, if you need a label to find a table then you’re not vision impaired you’re mentally impaired,” Hardison shot back at Eliot, but he was laughing. “We could all just eat cereal, that’d make Parker happy.”

Hardison took Auggie’s hand quickly, shaking it and letting it drop. His nana had taught him manors and he could practically still feel the slap over the head if he forgot to shake hands. “Well, welcome. Although it’s a little disconcerting to be welcomed to a party you didn’t want to go to, I know, it’s only been a week for me.” Hardison explained.

“We can start planning something better than a cane, even if it’s just so you’ll stop whacking me with it,” Hardison said to Eliot, leaning back against the wall with his arms crossed. “Some kind of laser set up, maybe even in the glasses so you didn’t have to carry it all the time,” he said, thinking out loud.

He was a little shocked for a second by Auggie’s joke, but recovered easily enough. “Eyyyy, blindfold? I… Hey! Just because I can see, you’re making me the butt of your joke, uncool, man.” Hardison said with a laugh. “That’s discrimination. Sightist even.”

"It's like a name tag, Hardison!" Parker insisted. "People wear name tags all the time." She grinned when Eliot said he'd stop feeding Hardison. "I have lots of cereal, it's all labeled."

Auggie just listened to the three of them talk, they were obviously close, close enough to threaten each other and argue little things the way they did. "It's all sorts of fun, let me tell you." He supposed they were all at that place at some point, where they just didn't want to be there.

He listened to them talk about some alternative to a traditional cane. He still had his laser cane, though he was sticking with the traditional one in moving around the base, just like at home. He might not be in the same place, but there were some things that were just ingrained in him. If they figured something out then maybe they could talk about it, otherwise he wasn't going to brag about the cane.

"Sightest? Can you call a blind guy sighist? I think that's probably the definition of sightist, man. That's brave of you." He shook his head. "I'm gonna have to put in a request for a more open minded roommate." Auggie could appreciate someone who could joke with him about it though, so many people liked to tip toe around his blindness and so it was a nice change when there were people who didn't just pretend like it wasn't there.

"You deserve to be whacked. How many times have I run into the kitchen chair because you can't push it in?" Eliot pointed an accusing finger at Hardison, then reminded Auggie, "Like I said, Auggie, whack away as needed."

Eliot glanced over at Parker. He hadn't seen her waving her hands in front of Auggie's face. It surprised him. He'd thought she'd be more curious, but maybe Hardison had filled her in on some ettiquette. Or she was too busy playing with the label maker to care. "Just remember nothing can be in the lenses." He pulled the sunglasses off and tapped under his empty eyesockets. "I can see any wires and other computer doodads, so if they're in the lenses I'll get a headache and crash into things."

"No name tags, I like to travel incognito, Parker," Alec said with a roll of his eyes. "Well if you have to live in a blindfold, you'll be able to find all your cereal."

Hardison nodded, knowing it had to be easier for him an it was for Auggie for many reasons. Number one being he'd spent so long looking for Eliot and Parker that finding them felt like a triumph more than anything, even if they were being kept in like animals. "Well they put you in the best house, just hope you can live with Eliot singing in the shower."

He had in mind some kind of device, the ultimate sight aid, something that would help Eliot get around like he'd never lost his sight at all, it was just going to take some time to develop. He'd find the time though. "Got it, I'll plan out something, get a prototype, see where we end up, no doodads."

Hardison laughed again, he liked Auggie, as much as he ever did like someone new. "Open minded, look at you, you just want to be shifted because you're a closet racist," Hardison said as seriously as he could.

"Why don't you use it as an opportunity to learn another language, other than Klingon?" Eliot told Hardison. He settled back in the chair, putting his feet up on the coffee table. "Don't forget me and Parker are going out again on Saturday, so get us another list of electronics you need before then. It's also Disco night at the club this week - want us to get you a 'fly' suit?" He smirked.

Eliot glanced over at Auggie. "Auggie, if you'd rather cook yourself, everything's labeled in basic Braille. Otherwise, I have breakfast on the table at 0600, lunch at 1315, and dinner at 1900," he said. "I also have a screen reader on my laptop and a money reader if you need 'em. I don't know if the crazies running the asylum gave you anything important."

It was more than apparent the three of them had a well established rapport in place, not just the sort that was built over months spent here, if it had been that long for all of them - Hardison apparently hadn't been there that long, and yet he was a welcome part of the group. No they were close before they'd arrived and it was obvious just in hearing the way they talked to one another not.

"I'll let you know if there's anything I need." He assured Eliot nodding. "I think I'm gonna keep working on getting to know the place before I worry about the tech." That could come later, he wanted to be able to get used to the physical space before worrying about anything else.

"Nice to meet you two." Auggie said facing in the direction of the other two just briefly. "Don't mind me wandering around. I'll do my best not to stare."
