"I know," she answered, laughing. "He looked scared that the words were coming out of his mouth. See? I knew I'd get y'all to remember that it's okay to act like everyone else." She didn't say normal people, because they didn't seem to like it, but they needed to be reminded how the rest of the world acted.
"They still have to tell me why they left, because if ti's because something happened, then they should have told me while they were here," she said. "I'll suggest spending time with other people so they can find girlfriend or boyfriend or whatever."
She nodded, so very pleased that he was joking now. "Terrible, indeed," she said, trying to keep a straight face. "I don't like lizards, but the goats are pretty. I like puppies more, though. I used to have one. She was this tiny white Maltese, five pounds in totally. We had her until I was seventeen. She wasn't a puppy either. She was twelve when she died. I don't remember not having her around, so no killing puppies, just lizards."
