RP: THE WEDDING
Who: Everyone (or Savannah will be very upset
Where: The base
When: September 9, 2011
Summary: the wedding

Savannah had spent the night at G, just like she had planned, and it didn't matter that they had until the afternoon to get ready, she was still up at the crack of dawn. Luckily for her, it wasn't like anyone in this house slept. Well, Sean did, but he was outnumbered. Even Brian stopped by early (although she wasn't sure if he had gone to sleep yet. He'd better or she'd kill him). He reassured that everything was fine, that he had everything under control. Even the weather seemed to be cooperating. After days of rain, the sun was out and it was already 71 degrees, a lot warmer than it ha been for days, and the high would be a perfect 80 degrees.

She did her hair, opting to pull it up so that it wouldn't interfere with the veil. The make up she kept simple as well. Finally, it was time to get married.

When Alexis approached Spencer smiled at her, giving a little wave, assuming she was probably just on her way past his table. Then she made her offer and Spencer glanced at Morgan like maybe he'd have all the answers.

He wasn't any help.

Dancing, he'd read books on dancing and he'd done it, once or twice, maybe. "Okay," Spencer said after a moment, because she was a sweet girl and saying no wouldn't be polite or friendly and he didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

He took her hand, shuffling a little awkwardly out onto the dance floor. "I'm not a very good dancer," Spencer admitted his hands hovering awkwardly by his side like he didn't know how to start, which was exactly right.

Alexis chuckled. "I didn't think you were." It wasn't right to stereotype or make assumption, and she had met good students that loved to dance, but boys in general didn't like it, and calling Spencer a good student was like calling Einstein just another researcher. "It's why I waited for a slow song," she said in a whisper.

The dance floor wasn't that big, but then there were only thirty three people here. They didn't need a lot of space. "Here, let me help you." She put his hand and guided it toward her back, while she took his other hand with hers. "You just rock to the sound of the music and we talk, and I know you can do that, because I love talking to you."

Spencer gave a little laugh, a slow song, right, that would hopefully make it easier. "Thank you, my less than coordinated feet thank you too," he whispered back.

Having his hand on Alexis' back wasn't a bad thing, but it also made him feel a little bit awkward and he cleared his throat as his fingers shifted against the material of her dress. "Okay," he said, trying to shift his weight smoothly from one foot to the other. "I love talking to you, too," Spencer admitted, looking down at her with a fond smile.

"You look very nice," he said, because that was the sort of thing you said to women at weddings.

"Maybe one day, I'll teach you to really dance. It's only fair since you're teaching me so much." Alexis hadn't been joking when she had said that she would have preferred four years of classes to seven weeks of training.

She looked up at him, smiling back. "See? We have something in common, and dancing will be even better now," she said as she started to move to the music.

"Thank you." The dress had something that she had picked up at the last moment. At least a salary was good for something, and she knew her way around stores, enough to find a dress that wouldn't cost her an arm and a leg. "You look very handsome yourself. Did you enjoy the wedding?"

"I'd like that, but I make no promises about my skill," Spencer said, wishing already that he could do more than just sway like a fool. She was average height, but he still had to angle his head down a little bit to look her in the eye. "I love to teach and you love to learn, it's perfect," he said with a smile.

"We have more than one thing in common, I'm sure," he said. "And is there more to this dancing than just swaying?" Spencer asked, trying to move and have his hand on Alexis' back and keep a little bit of distance between their bodies.

"You're welcome," Spencer said. "Thank you, Alexis." He considered the ceremony and ended up nodding his head. Spencer hadn't been to many weddings in his time and while the formality and religious undertones weren't something he overly enjoyed, the happiness on people's faces and the love was nice to be a part of. "I did, they look very happy together."

"Pfft, I'm sure you'll do fine. You need to approach it like a math problem. Music has its rhythm and you need to move in time with that rhythm. Just imagine the tempo in your head and you'll be great," she told him, knowing that a scientific approach would be more useful than saying that he should 'feel' the music.

Alexis looked at him for a moment, and then smiled brightly at him. "Yes, we do, and no there really isn't. Slow dancing is really an excuse to be close to someone."

Most people would just have answered. It was a simple routine question and people always said yes, but she loved the fact that Spencer too his time thinking about it. "They do, and in the end, it's what it's all about." It was the one reason she hadn't said anything about the tackiness of the wedding. Savannah was a nice girl and she was glowing with happiness.

"Now who's the genius," Spencer said as he relaxed a little bit more into the slow side to side movement. She moved better than he did, but she was young and female and from what he knew had a social life that probably involved her getting a bit of practice at this.

His head tilted to the side a little when she said that dancing was just an excuse to be close and he wondered if that was usually the case and this was just an exception? Spencer let his hand slide away from her back as he turned her in a slow circle, because that was something he'd seen people dancing do before. "Okay, I guess that makes sense," Spencer said, his hand settling high on her back again.

"Exactly, it's a celebration of their love and I think it's very nice," Reid said, glancing around the room, his eyes finding the happy couple. He didn't think he'd ever find someone to be with like that, but it was just nice to see it, even from afar.

"I'm just giving you an alternative way to look at things," she said with a wide grin, happy to see that he was relaxing a little. It was the point of the invitation after all.

She was confused for a moment when he let go, but then he was spinning her around and Alexis was laughing as she closed the gap and returned into his arms. "Oh my, you've been hiding your talents from me. You're a bona fidae Fred Astaire."

Alexis followed his gaze. "I left my boyfriend at home. We were going to go to school together, but now I'm here for... a long time, but I never thought about marriage, not this young. She's only twenty one. I want to go to school, have a career... not that it's going to happen either."

"I need a new way of looking at things sometimes, people who can make me look at things differently," he admitted, returning her grin, it seemed to be contagious.

It was nice to make her laugh, he'd never really spent much time with women except for those he worked with, but he supposed this counted as someone he worked with, when he thought about it. "Looks like I'm a natural," he knew he wasn't, that the move hadn't been very smooth and a lot awkward, but he was trying.

Looking back he pulled her a little bit closer, wanting to comfort her, her words made her sound like she needed it. "You will have time for a career and your boyfriend will be there when you get home," Reid said gently, giving her a little smile. "I know you'll have it all."

"You have me, and I'll help you figure things out when you can't and you can help me with... a lot of things," she answered, knowing that it showed how much she admired him, but she couldn't help. The man was brilliant.

Alexis chuckled. "It does. You're a natural at everything. I haven't seen you doing anything less than exceptionally."

She laughed a little, although it wasn't a happy sound. "No, I won't, at least the boyfriend. I was going to school with him, because we knew that long distance relationships don't work. In fact, the numbers said that close to 85% for couples our age split up when one goes to college. I checked. Imagine what the rate would be for when your girl friend disappears and you don't know if you'll ever see her again."

"And you have me, looks like we've got a very mutually beneficial situation here. You can teach me and I can teach you," Reid said, before twirling her again, a little bit more smoothly this time.

He didn't really get shy, but he wasn't used to such open admiration. "You are the sweetest girl I've ever met," Spencer said, because what else was he supposed to say to such a stunning compliment?

It had been a little white lie, but that didn't mean it wasn't based on truth. "That doesn't mean he won't be available and ready to get to know you again when you get back. Things don't end just because you put space between two people," he assured, squeezing her hand tightly in his.

"It's wonderful," she said, laughing it up as she turned around. This was a lot more fun that she had expected, and Spencer only needed the confidence to start dancing.

Alexis chuckled. "I'm not that nice, but you are." She kissed his cheek. "Thank you for trying, but I don't need you to lie to me. I know what the numbers say. I did the research. I decided not to go to Oxford, the school I really wanted to go so I could stay with my boyfriend. I know the odds and space definitely ends things. When you add space and time-" She shrugged. "We don't have a chance. It's just the way things are. Let's just dance, okay? I don't want to talk about Ashley."

"It is," Spencer agreed, grinning proudly when he made her laugh. Maybe he wasn't the worst dancer in the world. Realistically he wasn't graceful and he wasn't very good, but he was enjoying himself.

"I'm really not that nice either," he said, managing a smile when she kissed him. "It's not a lie, really. The chances of it working are slim, you're right, but not impossible," Reid said with a shrug. "Okay, I can do that," he said, spinning her out again and even daring to give Alexis a playful little dip.

Fred Astaire, eat your heart out.
