Who: Hera and Amphitrite
What: It's an overcast morning on the UCLA campus, Hera's feeling nostalgic.
When: June 29, morning
Where: UCLA Campus
Warnings: Nothing really. Maybe a bit of cursing.
Even after two thousand years, Hera wasn't a morning person. Or at least, she hadn't been since the honeymoon had ended and she'd woken up to realize that her husband was an asshole. Actually, a lot of women wake up to find that, and her husband wasn't just any asshole. He was The Asshole. He was the definition of asshole. The asshole on which all other assholes would model themselves for the entirety of human existence. An assholery that bred true in his creations as they sought to emulate their maker. Just look at what these disgusting beings had done to what could be a place of beauty. The temperature was in the low sixties, but it was cloudy. Not clean, fluffy clouds, but dingy clouds. Dirty. Smoggy. Disgusting. And Zeus's fault, like everything else. Apparently not being a morning person wasn't the only thing that hadn't changed in two thousand years. Hera's dislike (to put it mildly) of the man she'd married was just as strong now as it had been when she'd escaped the eternal prison that was marriage to that monster. Parole, at last. And if the price of her parole was to have barely more power than one of these foul creations, then that was a fair price in her mind.
Parking on the UCLA campus was a nightmare, so she didn't bother. Instead, she'd found an overpriced apartment in Beverly Hills close to campus and walked. It gave her a chance to get her blood flowing before class when she'd have to deal with students. At least in the summer the only students she had to deal with were graduate students. Summer was the only break she had from the whining masses who wanted an easy A and barely managed to pass organic chemistry. Very few undergrads had any real ambition and if they'd just put half the effort into understanding the workings of cellular biology they put into partying, they'd at least pass the classes she was forced to endure in order to have access to her beloved lab.
Today she'd managed an early start, though, and instead of spending the extra time in her office, she decided to sit on one of the benches that graced the quad outside of the library and watch people pass. For all that she hated people, they still fascinated her. She wondered what their lives would have been like without the coming of the one true god. If her asshole of a husband had been allowed to continue as he had. How many of these humans would be his bastards, or his next conquest? How many would have died in one of her son's wars? Would the industrial revolution still happened? Or happened sooner? Would feminism have rocked their world? Or would she still be a slave with a crown? She was so lost in her thoughts watching them hurry between classes, that she didn't even notice when someone approached her bench, assuming they would pass on by like the rest of the herd.
