Ember was never coming to the bloody library again.
She'd been behind in her language study and had a little bit of extra time before dinner, which didn't usually equate to studying and things, but she was feeling more responsible than usual. Well that and the library was closer than her apartment and her legs were already sore from training that morning.
It was quiet in the library. Well, she supposed it was always quite being that it was a library, but she didn't see a lot of people around either. Probably all of those people knew how to speak all the bleeding languages of the world and didn't need to spend their Friday afternoon like an egghead reading. Ugh. Miserable.
She was browsing the shelves for the book that was supposed to unlock the mysteries of Mandarin to her. She was highly suspicious of such claims because she could barely manage Spanish, but was willing to try anything at this point to keep from getting turned to dust by Professor Valdez's ice stare. That's when the ground gave out and the entire world seemed to shift and not in the way like in a song or a terrible romantic comedy or something, but it literally started to shake and she reached out to grab something, but bunch of books rattled off the shelves, smacking her in the face and before she could move out of the way, the entire bleeding thing toppled over like dominoes, pinning her between it and the shelf behind her. Everything went dark for a long moment and she was only aware of a throbbing in her head and a ringing in her ears.
She came to, but she wasn't sure how long she'd been out for. The florescent lights didn't give much hint to time passing and her head was still hurting rather badly. She tried moving, which proved to be a mistake. Her arm was being crushed by something and her ankle felt like it had snapped. She called out, figuring that the usual rules stopped applying once a natural disaster was involved, but didn't hear any response. Either it was more empty than she'd even realized or the other people were even worse off than she was. She couldn't even reach her damned fecking phone. For fuck's sake.
